i think what ppl who havent seen that much doctor who needs to understand is how incredibly rare it is for an episode to have both a big emotional impact and a remotely decent plot. the van gogh episode everyone loves is a wonderful ep about mental health and depression and being kind and the plot is that theres a giant invisible alien that only van gogh can see thats angry cause it cant find another alien to fuck. any episode with an alien thats actually scary to some degree is guaranteed to feature the most boring and unexciting characters possible that you wont feel remotely sad about when they die
the only exceptions are the empty child episodes and even that i might be seeing through rose-tinted glasses cause the last time i rewatched this two parter was in 2015 or 16
