My problem with Nolan's Odyssey isn't that it isn't faithful to the original 'text' (since it didn't begin as a text in the first place) but it's that it is completely uninspiring, inartistic and a thematic dead-end with nothing to truly comment or dwell on except to regurgitate the average american's infantile imagination of warfare and trauma back at them. I love unfaithful adaptations of the Odyssey, in fact, my love of classics revolves around classical reception and its transformation of the Odyssey. But Nolan has nothing to say, nothing to show, nothing to believe in except perhaps that the audience should pity war criminals because they feel bad.
Now that everyone's over The Odyssey can we please just sit back and watch the only adaptation that matters, the Coen Brothers' 2000 perfectionist classic O Brother, Where Art Thou?

One piece of advice that’s always stuck with me is to never hold back a compliment. If you think someone looks nice/is doing a good job/is very talented tell them! Could improve someone’s day or make you a new friend.
not to "trying to be chill but can't help noticing how misogyny bleeds through the cracks etc etc" but once you realize that almost none of the cute disney comic relief sidekicks are women you can't unsee it. like that thing only exists to do some slapstick and look cute for plushies. why can't it be a woman. why are ALL of them he/him. it's driving me fucking insane
here let's look at JUST the disney princess lineup. almost all of them have exclusively male sidekicks. cinderella has female mice hanging with her but they are significantly less present in the story AND marketing than jaq and gus, her male horse and dog, and even fucking lucifer. the only princess i can think of with significant female sidekicks is belle, and that's 1) the Momâ„¢, 2) the wardrobe with barely any merch or screentime, and 3) the maid with barely any merch or screentime, all of which pale in comparison to the attention lumiere, cogsworth and chip get. sisu is more of a sub-protagonist than a sidekick so that leaves raya with her male tuktuk.
what are the other female sidekicks i can think of? uh the pig from black cauldron who doesn't even do any slapstick. LIVE-ACTION scuttle. the star from wish doesn't have a gender ig. one (1) of the five other major animals in hoppers. like literally once you ask yourself "why did rapunzel's chameleon have to be he/him-ed" you just don't stop thinking about it. does the animated jasmine have any female friends

everybody talking about the lack of spaces where kids and teenagers can just "hang out" is really coming together with all my thoughts on ecology, lawns, and the way land is used
Many outdoor spaces are not functional for human life. Concrete and no trees makes the world hostile for humans the same way it does other creatures.
Suburbs where every house has a lawn that is basically decoration cause the houses to be spaced far apart, which makes walking very difficult...
The harder to exist in the outside becomes, the more people become focused on the virtual world, which causes the outside to become treated as less important, and people have less ability to imagine an outdoor space that is nice to exist in
The trouble ultimately is that the earth's surface already exists and is free. Simply being in a certain position in three-dimensional space is something that you inherently can do as long as you can walk there, unless someone stops you.
But our system is that a person has to pay someone money for every aspect of existence, in both space and time, even though space and time are both inherent qualities of the fabric of the universe.
So, spaces that someone can exist in for free are kept hostile to human life
like it's a little thing but in january of 2029 i'm gonna remember how all the hollywood movies of this era starting featuring solely straight white characters as their leads and supporting casts. i'm gonna remember the superstores that cut their pride collections and stopped putting up black history month displays at the ends of aisle. i'm gonna remember the multiple massive tech companies i worked for that killed their ERG/DEI programs and banned any social media posts about first-gen college students or women in tech. i'm gonna remember the car commerical narration that became less about the car and more about how america is for only the elite few who can "handle it'". when we've got some normie tim walz type installed in the oval office and congress is running hague-lite trials on ice agents and all these gigantic, impossibly rich entities rush back to pretending they always cared about doing the right thing and believed in the inevitable drumbeat of progress, i'm gonna remember they were the few institutions who could've survived taking a stand and didn't. they hurt our culture for the worst because they were scared of losing a tax break from a nazi wannabe fascist
