A short list of lesser talked about reasons for a character to throw up you may have not know about
Iâve been been slowly adding to this since like late 2023 and finally decided to post it, some Iâve given a little summary of, some I think didnât need one : D
Warnings for both illness and non Illness related reasons to vomit, please take care and skip this list if you are someone who may get worried over finding about new Illnesses or things that may affect health, please look after yourself
Also I am not a doctor, I do not claim to be a medical professional and this list is intended for fictional writing only
Also also these were at least not that known to me, I cannot guarantee these are not as known/ talked about lol
Okay sorry for the long warning, list is under the cut :)
H. pylori infection/ Helicobacter pylori infection
An infection caused by Helicobacter pylori (or known as H. pylori) bacteria that affects the stomach lining and can weaken it. More than half of worldâs population has this infection but will have no symptoms or issues with it. Most infections happen in childhood, however a person infected may be asymptomatic for years before developing any problems. A H. pylori infections can cause Gastritis, Peptic Ulcers or in rare cases Gastric Cancer if left untreated. Symptoms happen as a result of Gastritis from the infection and can include symptoms of nausea/vomiting, a burning feeling in the upper stomach, bloating and frequent burping/ gas, indigestion etc. it can be treated with antibiotics and other medications. (I only found out about it through having a friend who would have on and off stomach aches and vomiting for years with no idea why until she was diagnosed with it)
Hypercalcemia/ high levels of calcium in the blood (abdominal moans and groans)
Hypercalcemia can be caused by taking too much calcium and vitamin D supplements, hyperparathyroidism, some cancers, as a side effect from Hydrochlorothiazide or even be temporarily caused by a taking too many tums. âAbdominal moans and groansâ refers to the symptoms of Nausea, Vomiting, heartburn and constipation. And while abdominal moans and groans also can be used to describe other illness and conditions I saw Hypercalcemia specifically being called Abdominal moans and groans the most frequently due to it having those symptoms.
Food poisoning caused by old food stuck to a microwave roof falling into the new food thatâs being heated up. (Not sure how likely this is to occur however it was written on the official government food health and safety website where I live.)
Magnesium Deficiency
Taking Zinc on an empty stomachÂ
Green tea being brewed too strong or drinking it on an empty stomach
Motion sickness from video games (cyber sickness or simulation sickness for vr.)
Throwing up from laughing too hard or from the force of bad hiccups (known people to vomit from both)Â
A side effect from having an iron transfusion
Post nasal drip
Caused by excesses mucus dripping down the throat, the mucus may drip down into the stomach which can irritate the stomach causing nausea/ vomiting.
These are all amazing. With the iron transfusion there are a lot of other whump opportunities. For example, taking iron on an empty stomach or sometimes just taking iron in general can make you feel really sick. Being anemic, food/stomach issues that can cause anemia, post-infusion reactions, and alergic reactions. I've been unlucky enough to experience all of these and the infusion reactions were both horrible and terrifying. It's one of the riskiest infusion because there is such a high rate of bad reactions.

I know I don't have many followers and it's a long shot that anyone will see this and care, but here goes;
I have severe mental health issues that have caused multiple physical health issues. I was able to go down to 30 hours a week and get some treatment for awhile, but ultimately had to go back to work full time and insurance stopped covering the treatment. I did ok-ish for awhile, but the past month has been horrible. I'm trying to get answers from doctors, but as many of you know, that can be a slow and painful process. I've started to get in trouble at work because of this. My boss is understanding, but now nearly all of my coworkers seem to hate me because of my performance. I feel like my hands are tied. If anyone has any advice, please please lmk. I think if anyone in the world would understand this it would be someone on Tumblr. Please reblog this if you can. I really need advice or maybe to just know that I'm not alone.
Thank you and I hope everyone has a safe and tolerable (hopefully happy) holiday season.
there's a fic i haven't written, but i should, where Vince and Wen are having dinner and she doesn't like it, so she says "ew" and goes to throw away the food, but he takes her plate and eats it as well as his own and then later when he's dying from indigestion it clicks for Wen that Vince physically CANNOT waste food due to how in his house they grew up with everything counted up
I remember you saying Trent struggles with his mental health and so do Aiden and James, right? So my question is who's medicated and how does it affect them? (in a general sense, but also in a tummyache sense đ)
I love this ask!
Trent is heavily medicated and he has struggled to find the right meds/dose. Some of them made him really sick and caused migraines while others just didn't help him. He spent years in and out of hospitals before he got the right combo. He can't take most of his meds on an empty stomach, particularly his sleep meds, or he will go full exorcist in the middle of the night. Alcohol has a really strong effect on him so he can't drink much without risking getting really sick and having an episode.
Aiden takes meds for anxiety and took antidepressants for a bit after both his parents deaths. His main issue is panic attacks that can trigger his asthma. He does need to take very strong medication when he goes to the doctor.
James refuses to take medication, but has reluctantly done some therapy at the V.A. and really only struggles when he had a fever on on the anniversary of his brother's death. Most of his hesitation with medication and therapy comes from how he was raised. When things get really bad he definitely is prone to throwing up.
Daisy takes antidepressants in the winter for seasonal depression. She struggled with an ED in highschool and was more heavily medicated then. She takes her medication and mental health very seriously and rarely forgets a dose.
Cody takes anxiety meds and a sleep aid to help with nightmares and stress. He gets stress induced stomach aches often from work and developed ulcer in pre-med and agian med school.
Tyler takes meds for anixety and ADHD. He has forgotten to eat a few times with his ADHD meds and gotten violently sick as a result. He doesn't like how the ADHD meds make him feel, but he needs them for school.
Jenny and Julien are med free, however Jenny has type 1 diabetes and takes meds for that.
Thank you for the ask! Also check out my story 'Home Isn't A Place." which touches on this a bit.
Alright, a lot of sickfic authors demonstrated interest in it, so please reblog this post if you're a sickfic author (mostly emeto) and agree to get and send worldbuilding/OC questions to other authors during Sundays

Imagine a tough guy who's normally put together and shows almost no emotion, but one little belly anch and they're clinging to their S/O just desperate for cuddles and love. đ
So cuteee đĽšđЎ
Especially if itâs not the first time itâs happened, so everyone thinks sickie is a tough guy and their s/o secretly knows one little tummy ache, and itâs all over for toughie.
Also, if their s/o is just a sunshine and takes the opportunity to absolutely smother and shower toughie with affection and baby them because itâs one of the only times they know toughie will really like it đĽş
Description: Aiden neglects himself trying to finish a novel and ends up sick. James is a kind albeit exasperated caretaker. Pre-Cody, Aiden is 23 James is 25.
I always ask about your OCs but never about you, so it's high time I changed this.
What is your absolute favourite sick scenario?
- đ
anon you're too sweet! My favorite trope is def when the caretaker doesn't believe the sickee. Guilt is suuuuch a delicious emotion to see in fics. That's also why I'm a sucker for appendicitis fics. Caretaker telling the sickie to "suck it up" only for the poor character to put through hours of nausea only for the reveal that not only they were sick, but caretaker put them in danger by ignoring it. muaw chefs kiss. Cue all the fussing

Description: Trent hits a rough patch; Aiden is there to keep his head above water. Loosely based on my own demons and the song Heavy Heart by Jamestown Revival.Â
Trigger warning for mentions of depression, implied/referenced SH & SA. Be warned, this one is dark but I promise it has a happy ending.Â
Pre-James, Aiden is 21, Trent is 24.
Itâs been raining for almost 3 straight weeks with no sign of stopping and anytime the sky isnât pouring down, the sky is a deep ash gray. Trent canât help but find that fitting. His mood has been slipping lower and lower, but he continues to drag himself out of bed every day and go to class. He spends half his time crashing on Aidenâs guest bed, too scared to go back to his dorm and his friend is getting increasingly worried. On day 17 though, Trent canât find it in himself to get out of bed. His stomach lurches every time he so much as thinks of getting up, so he turns off all his alarms and sleeps until just past 11.
Aiden lets him sleep and quietly putters around the apartment, trying not to worry. Heâs been considering calling Mark for the last week, but he knows Trent wonât appreciate that. Aiden lets Trent sleep through his first two classes before he decides that Trent at least needs to wake up and eat lunch. The young blonde tentatively knocks on the bedroom door before pushing it open. Trent is curled up under the blankets, tucked up in a ball. He is so still it looks like he could be asleep, but his eyes are wide open and hollow. Aidenâs heart sinks at the sight of his best friend. Despite his own struggles with mental health he canât even begin to comprehend what the young law student is going through.Â
âI made soup. You should probably eat something.â Aiden whispers softly. Trent doesnât move, his eyes continuing to stare at the wall in front of him. When he does speak, his voice is barely discernible.Â
âIâm not hungry.â
Itâs not a lie. Trentâs stomach aches and he feels vaguely queasy. The thought of anything, even water, makes him want to gag. He knows that he needs to eat and at the very least take his anxiety medication; or he risks a full blown panic attack if it starts storming again outside.Â
Aiden slowly approaches the bed and sits down on the edge, careful not to touch Trent. Itâs been several months since he had an episode like this and it wasnât nearly as bad last time. A full class load has taken its toll though. Trent has lost a significant amount of weight and heâs started smoking again. If it wasnât for Aidenâs asthma, he would probably be smoking right now. Instead heâs got a nicotine patch and a chewed up necklace.Â
The young writer pauses, unsure how to proceed, then he rests a careful hand on Trentâs arm. Trent flinches at first and then relaxes. Heâs touch starved and terrified of being touched all at once, but Aidenâs hands are small and soft. His touch has always been familiar and kind.Â
âHow about a bath to start and some Star Trek.â Aiden offers.
Trent mulls the offer over for a few minutes and nods softly. Aiden is immensely relieved and he stands up to go draw a bath. He takes his time, letting the bath fill with warm water and adding lavender bubble bath and dimming the lights. Aiden brews two mugs of chamomile tea, extra honey for Trent, and grabs clean clothes for his friend.Â
It takes almost twenty minutes for Trent to drag himself out of bed and as soon as he stands up he can feel a crushing weight pressing him down. He trudges to the bathroom and finds Aiden lighting a candle and fussing over the bath water.
I donât deserve this, is Trentâs first thought. Aiden never seems to mind when Trent gets like this; he takes everything in stride. Trent stands in the doorway of the bathroom for a moment, trying to wrap his head around everything. Aiden turns around, smiling gently and walks over to Trent. The smaller blonde wraps his small arms around Trent and hugs him carefully. It feels nicer than Trent is willing to admit. When Aiden pulls away, he peers up at Trent with a careful expression.
âIs it alright if I stay here and read?â Aiden asks, although itâs clear he is going to stay no matter what Trent stays. Honestly Trent canât blame him; he has a history and his friend has every right to be concerned. Trent nods stiffly, trying not to think about the implications and walks towards the bath. Aiden steps out for a second to grab the tea and a book. Trent strips out of his clothes and is settled into the warm, scented bubbles when Aiden returns. He accepts the mug of tea and glances at the book Aiden is holding: The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klien. Aiden sits down on the closed lid of the toilet and begins reading, his voice as soothing as the bath and tea. Trent feels almost human again as he sits in the bath. He takes a careful sip of the tea, relieved when it doesnât make him immediately sick.Â
They stay in the warm bathroom for nearly an hour; Aiden reads softly and Trent listens intently, allowing the story to transport him far away from the prison of his own mind. He carefully cleans himself, something that always feels a thousand times harder when heâs depressed, and pretends that the water can wash away all of the pain and sadness thatâs been smothering him. When the water starts to cool he drains the bath and rinses off in the shower. Aiden hands him a large warm towel from the dryer and waits for him in the living room.
Trent emerges, looking like a ghost, but a bit less dead than before. He sits on a stool in the kitchen and watches, with a blank expression, as Aiden putters about. He watches every move his young friend makes, but his brain doesnât process any of it. In the background thereâs an old record playing and the rain is slowly drizzling against the windows. Otis jumps up on the stool to Trentâs right side and nuzzles against him. Trent absentmindedly pets the large yellow tabby while Aiden cooks. The whole kitchen is pleasantly warm, but Trent feels oddly cold and he shivers every time he glances out the window.Â
After twenty or so minutes, Aiden places a bowl of pale golden broth in front of Trent along with some toast, and another mug of tea; this time itâs peppermint. Aiden sits next to Trent and squeezes his shoulder reassuringly. âThe bread is fresh. I made it yesterday afternoon.â Aiden tells him. Trents hand is trembling as he brings the spoon to his lips. His mind feels cloudy and gray like the sky. Aiden picks up the book from before and continues reading. The words are enough of a distraction, and Trent manages most of the broth and the toast.Â
Trent has long admired Aidenâs voice; itâs like honey and sunshine: warm, soothing and sweet. The numbness in his bones and chest loosens ever so slightly and he allows himself to disappear in the story. Aiden hands him a small cup with his medication and watches Trent swallow the pills. âDo you want to go to the den? I can fold out the sofa bed and keep reading.â Aiden offers.Â
Trent nods, almost eagerly and follows his friend into the den. Itâs a cozy room tucked behind the kitchen and filled with artwork and old movie posters. Thereâs an enormous sofa that folds out into a large plush bed and dozens of soft blankets in a big basket on the floor. Across from the couch is a large TV and a projector screen can be pulled down from the ceiling. Two large bookshelves frame a bay window on the far left wall. Trent sits on the cushions in the window, next to Kipper and watches the raindrops roll down the glass. Aidne quickly sets up the bed with practiced ease and piles on several large fleece blankets. He adds a few pillows, and for good measure grabs two of the stuffed animals off one of the bookshelves along with his own beloved teddy bear.Â
âAll set.â Aiden tells Trent when heâs finished. The taller blonde stands up and walks slowly over to the bed. He sinks into the blankets and wraps himself up. His head finds its way to Aidenâs shoulder as the young writer starts reading again. Kipper jumps up on the bed and curls into a ball against Trentâs stomach. Otis soon finds his way into the den and settles against Trentâs back. Itâs the warmest and safest Trent has felt in weeks, maybe even months. Before long he falls back asleep; despite all the time heâs spent in bed, his sleep has been plagued with nightmares.Â
Aiden stays in bed next to Trent, even after heâs fallen asleep, content to just relax for a bit. The rain picks up after two hours and thunder begins to rumble outside. As the storm worsens, so to Trentâs dreams. He starts to fidget in his sleep, whimpering and twitching periodically. Just when Aiden thinks of waking him up, Trent shoots the bolt upright with a terrified shout.Â
âNooo⌠Please, I-Iâm sorryâ Trent cries out, shaking like a leaf.Â
Aiden sits up next to him, âTrent, hey, it was just a dream. Youâre safe.â He coos gently . âMon cher ami. Tu es en sĂŠcuritĂŠ.â(My dear friend, you are safe.) He adds gently. Trent turns to face him and buries his face in Aidenâs chest. Sobbing harshly. Aiden takes Trent into his arms and rubs his back. He whispers gentle words into Trentâs hair. âO fy annwyl, bydd yn iawn.â (Oh my dear, it will be alright.)
The words are familiar and comforting. They are also distinctly Aiden, which Trent finds all the more comforting. Thereâs no mistaking where he is because Aiden is the only person heâs ever known who switches languages with such ease. Every word brings him closer to reality and slowly Trentâs mind returns to the present.Â
When Trent comes back to reality, he feels overwhelmingly sick. His stomach is twisting and turning, trying to squeeze its way up his throat. He practically leaps off the sofa bed and dashes to the bathroom, barely making it in front of the toilet before his belly contracts and sends up a wave of hot, sour puke. Aiden is behind him almost instantly, rubbing his back and whispering sweet nothings.Â
Trent sobs as his back arches and he vomits again. Everything is spinning and he feels like the walls are contracting in the same way as his stomach. Aiden steadies him over the bowl and offers a firm touch that anchors him to reality.Â
He continues to heave and retch for several minutes before he finally leans back and flushes the toilet. Trent leans back against the wall and pants. Aiden hands him a cup of water to rinse his mouth out with and gives him another hug. Tears prink and Trentâs eyes and for once it has nothing to do with fear or sadness; heâs greatful.
âW-why, why do you always do this? Youâre always there when I need you. I donât deserve any of this and yet here you are, like a fucking siant.â Trent stammers.
Aiden chuckles and grabs a washcloth, wetting it then draping over the back of Trentâs neck.Â
âYouâve always been there for me too. When my mom died, when I was homesick at school. Everytime I need you, youâre there.â He pauses and rubs Trentâs back. âDo you rember when my Dad died and I told you I had no home?â
Trent nods carefully.
âYou said, âHome isnât a place, itâs the people who love you.â and you brought me pack to your apartment. You let me sleep in your bed for months and patched me back together.â
Aiden helps Trent lean back and lay his head on Aidenâs shoulder.Â
âI never would have gotten through that first year without you and I wouldnât have published my novel if you hadnât encouraged me.â
Trent leans fully into Aiden and exhales slowly. The world isnât spinning anymore and his stomach is finally starting to settle.
âI will always be your home and your safe place mon ami.â
Aidenâs words echo in Trentâs head and he feels his heart begin to warm; his head is finally above water and he can breathe again.
how to write a character who suffers a PTSD from their past toxic relationship, how they can react / what they might say in certain situations
trigger warnings for abuse, domestic violence, ed
how they can react in certain situations
â avoid making eye contact, but will look up to meet caretakerâs eyes immediately if caretaker tells them to â for instance, caretaker is concerned about whumpee who keeps their gaze on the floor all the time; so, without thinking, caretaker says, â look at meâ. it doesnât matter if they say it in a soft, comforting tone, they immediately regret it because whumpee quickly jerks their head up to meet caretakerâs eyes, fully thinking caretaker will hurt them if they donât obey.
â whumpee is used to receiving orders. they donât understand the concept of saying no and not being punished for it. so anything caretaker asks them to do (keyword; ask, whumpee can absolutely say no), whumpee will comply whether or not they want to (but they will do their best to make sure it looks like they want to).
â avoid staying in a crowded room or even an open space. whumpee will most likely seek comfort from some quiet corner where theyâre away from anybody and nobody can bother them.
â an open space where thereâs no one around can also bother whumpee, because itâs not just about being surrounded by a lot of people thatâs triggering to whumpee. being alone in an open space can make whumpee feel extremely exposed, like an easy target.
â so mostly, whumpee will seek some quiet corner where they are alone and arenât easily seen.
â they donât like being the center of attention or being talked about. because this can also make them feel vulnerable, uncomfortable and exposed.
â physical touch that comes with no heads up, the ones that catch whumpee off guard, can result in a terrible reaction from whumpee, even if itâs an act of affection (a hug, a friendly pat on the shoulder, etc), because whumpee has already associated all kind of physical contact with pain and violence. so if someone touches them, they reflexively expect it to hurt.
â being jumpy in general. they may flinch away at any loud noise, any physical touch.
â lack of opinions in general. if they have to engage in a conversation where more than two people are talking about something, whumpee will remain quiet. not because theyâre shy but because they 1.) think their opinions donât matter 2.) are afraid they might say something wrong thatâll get them punished 3.) donât want to risk speaking out of turn.
â whumpee expect themself to be punished if they make a mistake, doesnât matter how small the mistake is â for instance, whumpee accident knocks over a glass of water, causing it to shatter, and immediately starts to panic, because they believe they will get punished for it.
â the rules whumper previously set for whumpee may still be effective for whumpee, even if theyâre with caretaker now; whumpee still follows whimperâs rules because 1.) itâs an old habit 2.) they just want to stay safe.
â they can react poorly to food. whumpee may have no appetite at all, and can develop a wave of anxiety that can lead to nausea if theyâre forced to eat. (this doesnât mean caretaker is supposed to just let them starve though, only that it can be challenging and caretaker has to be very careful about how they approach this, how they handle the situation to help whumpee.)
â insomnia. whumpee having trouble sleeping at night, this can cause them to feel tired during daytime.
things they can say in certain situations
â âitâs okay.â
â âIâm used to it.â
â âI can be good. Iâll be good.â
â âI donât deserve this.â (on being shown kindness)
â âitâs what I deserve.â (on being hurt)
â âwhy are you kind to me?â
â âIâm sorry, it wonât happen again.â (on making a mistake)
â âplease, donât be mad at me.â
â âIâll do better next time.â
â âyouâre not angry?â
â âitâs up to youâ
â âeither is fine with me.â (on being asked to pick something or to give an opinion)
Hiii i was wondering if you would be okay with creating a story with sick leo (emeto and scat) who is just incredibly embarrassed and caretaker jon who is just understanding and pacient with him?? Like just giving him cuddles and reasuring him is only natural
Have this little ficlet while I work on the fic Sicily one!
-------------------
Leo's stomach was gurgling something awful since lunch. He wasn't sure what the hell was wrong, but his belly felt gurgly and bloated, pressing against his social pants all day.
By the time his job was done, he was covered in a thin layer of sweat and his belt was digging in his tummy. He stumbled to his car and let out a groan upon entering and shutting the door. People were still getting out of the building, so he was too embarrassed to undo his pants yet, but god did his gut feel horrible.
With a shaky hand, he started the car and drove out of the building's parking lot. It was a really gray day, a thin drizzle falling since morning. He stopped at a red light and leaned back against the seat, tugging on his belt. In order to open it, he had to tighten it a buckle first and Leo let out a groan when he could just feel liquid churning in his lower intestines. He undid the belt and his pants button and zipper, resting a hand on his belly when it sprung forward.
It was warm to touch and loud, vocally complaining the mess that had been pushed down into his colon. A shiver ran up his spine and Leo struggled to pay attention to the street.
By the time he made it home, Leo was starting to feel nauseous from pain. His lower belly was cramping rhythmically and throbbing under his hand. He all but bolted from the car as soon as it was parked, feeling claustrophobic and sick.
The elevator ride felt like it took hours and Leo was squirming on his feet by the time he made it to the door. He didn't have much time, his bowels were done with him and whatever rancid food he had eaten. JD jumped up from the couch when he entered and he groaned out loud.
"Not now, sweetheart," Leo said, wincing. He had one arm wrapped around his gut and despite the urgency, the cramps were fierce enough he couldn't run to the bathroom. He was shaking all over and he didn't even try making it to their master suite, instead entering the guest bathroom since it was closer and dropping his pants, collapsing on the seat.
His tummy was aching like hell, but diarrhea didn't hit him immediately. Instead he had to wrap his arms around his belly and squeeze. Leo's eyes burned with little tears when finally all that toxic waste rushed out of him. He groaned, hitting the flush while still sitting down, because there was no way he wanted to see or smell that mess. His belly gurgled dangerously with the movement and he let out a burp, a hand cradling his tummy. It was still swollen and pulsating.
In his haste he hadn't properly shut the door, so when JD hit it her little body, she managed to push it ajar and wiggle her way inside the bathroom.
"Aw, nooo, JD," Leo groaned, still folded in half, "you don't wanna be here, get out."
The kitten climbed the cabinet and got on top of the sink, meowing as she pawed the water register. She had an habit of only ever wanting to drink running water and would sometimes meow until Leo opened the faucet for her.
"No, not now, stop it," Leo said, shivering again when another cramp hit him and more diarrhea rushed out. He felt lightheaded. He couldn't help but fold on himself, rocking with the horrible sensation, but this position put a little too much pressure in his stomach and he soon had warm soupy vomit flooding his mouth. He swallowed it back down and let out a whimper, fishing the trashcan next to the toilet and holding it to his lap...
Only to hear the front door opening.
"Leo? JD?" Jonah called, his voice all bubbly, "you'll never guess who's on Tinder now."
Leo let out a whimper, gulping down the nausea or trying to, because it felt like the more he swallowed, the more his throat constricted.
"Leo?" Jonah sounded confused now and he could hear him walking further in the apartment, "Dammit Leo, you forg-" Jonah grabbed the handle of the bathroom door in order to shut it, probably thinking that Leo had forgotten it open and JD would get inside, but another loud whine from Leo's midsection made him open it instead of shutting.
Just then Leo's belly revolted entirely and he leaned forward, bringing up a stream of hot vomit in the trashcan, while his intestines emptied out too, the cramps gnawing at him.
"Holy-" Jonah interrupted himself with a gag and turned around, stepping out of the bathroom with a hand over his mouth, but leaving the door open.
Leo was humiliated. He coughed, spitting the horrible taste and squeezed his belly with his free hand, the other one supporting the bucket, "close the door, please-"
He overheard Jonah coughing, then he reappeared holding a hand over his nose and mouth, but his eyes were brimming with concern, "what happened?"
"I don't know," Leo said, trying to massage a cramp, "can you please leave? And take JD with you?"
Jonah frowned, reaching and picking up JD as if she was nothing. The kitten meowed, trying to jump from his grasp, but failing, "when did this start?" Jon asked, doctor voice on and Leo whimpered, his face burning when his belly gurgled so loud that even Jon heard, raising his eyebrows.
"Please get out of here," Leo groaned, trying to fight the next bout of runs, "please-"
"Leo, I'm trying to help-"
'I don't want your help, please get out!" Leo exclaimed, so embarrassed he thought he'd die. Jonah looked annoyed, but he didn't say anything as he quietly left the bathroom and shut the door.
It was another ten minutes before Leo felt like his bowels were through with him. His stomach still felt sloshy and nauseous, but he hadn't puked again.
He flushed twice before even attempting to get up and completely gave up on cleaning up, instead entering the shower area of the bathroom.
By the time he stepped out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his hip and shivering violently, Jonah wasn't in the hallway. Leo let out a sigh, walking like an elderly man towards their room.
He felt sick and he wanted... Something, he wasn't even sure what.
It took him ages to manage to put his boxers on and by the time he managed, Leo fell down on the bed and wrapped his arms around his puffy tummy, feeling dangerously close to tears when he felt all the gurgling and cramping still going on.
"Leo?" Jon called from the living room and he took a deep breath, trying to collect himself and stepped out of the room.
"Why are you in just boxers? You must be freezing," Jonah scoffed as soon as he saw him, crossing the room in two steps. He had left something in the oven and Leo almost gagged at the idea of eating anything. He shuddered again when Jon's warm hands met his arm.
"I'm sorry I know it was so gro-"
"Shut up about it," Jonah cut him off, then stripped his sweater and pushed it over Leo's head, "arms up."
He obeyed quietly, tearing up when he could feel Jon's cologne clinging to the neckline of the sweater, the soft fabric warm from already being worn.
"You don't have a fever," Jonah said, oblivious to Leo's minor breakdown, pressing his hand to his forehead, "something else hurts? How's the pain in your gut? Where exac-"
"Stop," Leo groaned, leaning in and pressing his forehead to Jon's shoulder, arms wrapped around his stomach, "stop, I don't want a doctor, I want my boyfriend."
"Boohoo, I -" Jonah's snappy response died in his throat when he heard Leo let out a sniffle. He sighed, planting a hand on his back, "okay. Yeah, alright. I can worry in a bit. Come lie down."
He dragged Leo to the couch and then let out a chuckle when the blonde collapsed on top of him.
Leo groaned, pressing his face to Jonah's chest and squirming to get comfortable between his legs. All the moving around made his stomach churn again and he let out a moan, swallowing a burp back down and causing his belly to let out a loud, sad whine.
"Your stomach is really upset," Jonah commented, moving him in his arms and then resting his hand over his boyfriend's midsection, over the sweater. Even through the fabric, Leo was sure he could feel the bubbles rushing around, like a boiling cauldron.
"I wanna die, that was so humiliating..."
"Not your fault," Jonah rolled his eyes, planting a kiss to his temple and moving his hand in slow, gentle circles, "is this helping any?"
"No," Leo groaned, then grabbed Jon's wrist, ignoring the fact his cheeks were burning, and pushed his hand under the sweater, so his boyfriend's palm could meet the naked skin, "better."
"Awww, that can't feel good," Jonah said quietly, starting to rub it again. It was a bad idea, because the gentle pressure only managed to push a wet burp out of Leo and he rushed to sit up straight when acid splashed in his throat.
"Leo!?"
"Not gon'-" Leo gagged, then burped again, "I'm fine."
He couldn't see Jonah - sitting behind him - but Leo knew he was eyerolling.
"Yeah, you're fine," he rubbed his back, heavy hand dislodging another wet burp, "those sound like you're gonna puke, Leo."
"Nope," Leo sighed, unable to straighten up, "my tummy is just really upset, but I'm not gonna barf."
"Again," Jonah added in a teasing manner, then kissed the top of his head, "lie back down."
"I feel... Really gross, Jon," Leo said, falling back down and snuggling against Jonah. He felt his boyfriend pet his hair.
"I know, baby, I'm sorry. Hopefully you just ate something bad and this is gonna wear off in a couple hours."
"Uhm, probabl-YIE-JD!" Leo cried out when the kitten jumped from the couch's back straight on his stomach. He sat up in a hurry when her weight made more vomit rush up his throat and Leo almost crushed her as he folded in the middle and gagged.
"Shit- Leo, you're alright? JD, get out of there!"
"I don't..." Leo swallowed back down again, "fuck, Jon, get me a bowl."
He didn't need to be told twice. Jonah rushed out and Leo groaned, unable to move. His stomach's contents kept rushing up his throat and he knew he needed that out, sooner rather than later. JD let out a meow, pawing his belly and Leo groaned, grabbing her by the scuff, "stop that or I'm gonna hurl on you, you little devil."
"Don't do that, it's gonna take weeks to get the smell off of her," Jonah joked, planting a salad bowl on his lap and grabbing the kitten, picking her up, "bad cat, look what you've done. Be right back, let me put her in the guest room."
Leo nodded, spitting emptily in the bowl. He took a deep breath, or tried to, because as soon as he filled his lungs his stomach clenched again, sending up yet another acidic burp, "fuck this," Leo whined, shoving two fingers in his mouth and gagging himself.
He barely had time to pull his hand back, his fingers getting coated in foul orange vomit that splashed in the bowl. Leo burped, bringing up a little bit more and then he pressed on his belly with his free hand. It still felt awful. He shoved the two wet fingers back in his mouth, only to hear Jon say in a scandalized manner:
"LEO! Don't do that!"
"No," Leo groaned, "get out of here, I just- I need it out, it's -" he gagged again and brought up a mouthful of soupy vomit, "I need it out of me, my belly feels horrible."
Jonah grimaced and gagged, but he didn't turn around and bolt. Instead he just stood there, torn between helping and gagging.
"G'way," Leo mumbled, spitting in the bowl and forcing up a burp, "you're gonna- You'll be sick."
"I'm fine," Jonah said strongly, his jaw clenched tight, "stop doing this to yourself, Leo, you'll hurt your thro-"
Leo ignored him, shoving the pair of fingers once more in his mouth and tickling the back of his throat. He heaved, but it was empty and he didn't even bother pulling his hand back, pushing his fingers deeper until finally a splash of bright yellow bile hit the bowl and the ache in his stomach reduced.
"Fuck," Leo whispered, panting, "Uhm- sorry about that-"
Jonah answered him with a retch, turning around and bracing against his knees as he trying to keep his stomach in check. Leo couldn't help but giggle.
"You're fine uh?"
"Shut up," Jonah mumbled, head hanging as he stared at the rug, "you're done?"
"Think so..." Leo grimaced, "don't look."
He braced against the couch and stumbled to the kitchen in order to empty the bowl and rinse it out, taking some gulps of cold water and spitting it back up for good measure.
Leo was panting quietly over the sink when he felt Jon press against his back, planting a cold hand on his forehead and pushing the blonde hairs back, "you're better?"
"Yeah," Leo nodded, leaning heavily against him and smiling. It didn't matter how shitty and shaky he felt, Jonah's body pressed against his felt heavenly, "can you rub my tummy?"
"Your tummy," Jonah snorted, but planted a kiss on his shoulder, then his cheek, "yeah, let's go lie down."

Alistair, being Alistair, had made his day ten times worse than it already was. He had already anticipated a bad day, and his manifestation seemed to actually come true, just to spite him. His mood was down the drain, his outfit was shit, his classes were boring and everything about him felt awful. His stomach was terribly upset, he didnât know if he was hungry or the stupid thing was getting sick, so as a result he was starving and bloated, belly pushing into his pants. Thankfully, his last class was wrapping up, an hour long tutorial that he didnât contribute anything too; rather he sat in the corner leaning against the wall. He was sure he didnât pick up anything the tutor was saying, let alone take any notes.Â
However, moving along he packed up his stuff with the sluggishness of a sloth, and dragged his feet out of the classroom. The person in front of him dropped the door on his face too, just his fucking luck. He scowled at their stupid haircut and started walking towards the bus stop. Oh, that was another thing, Nikau had needed the car today so he had to walk to University and now he was destined to go on a packed bus with a bunch of business men and crying babies. Joy.Â
The walk to the stop, Alistair reflected on how much of an awful day he had. It was downright laughable, he couldâve been on a sitcom with the amount of things that went wrong. His laptop was low on battery, the library was packed full of people, and he had only one hour breaks between all of his classes and lectures. And he was already pissed before his stomach even started to riot. So, on top of everything, his stomach gurgling away at him all day was like an incessant fly that wouldnât stop flying around his ears.Â
As he walked, he found himself unconsciously holding his belly. He didnât care what he looked like, other people be damned, all he wanted was to feel better. The walk seemed to take forever, the smell of tarmac, the sight of construction, the noise of city life, Alistair felt like his brain was melting. He zeroed in on the bus stop sign, willing himself to move faster.Â
It was empty. The lone bench was blissfully quiet as he heavily threw himself down on it. He shucked his bag off, sitting it against him, and threw his head back. His hair was sticking to the nape of his neck, gross, and his legs felt like jelly. Hot electricity coursed through his hands and arms, raising goosebumps and sending warning signals to his brain. He was sick. So sick yet so far from home. The bus was coming in ten minutes, the ten most agonising minutes of Alistairâs life. He wrapped both arms around his middle, holding it in place as it grumbled away incessantly.Â
His thoughts began to wander then. To his assignments, his boyfriend, the birds singing their annoying songs, how sick he felt. It was all coming together in Alistairâs mind, and in all honesty he wanted it to stop. His own brain almost made him break down at that bus stop. He ducked his head and sucked in harshly between his teeth, forcing the tears back into his tear ducts. Sickness floored him every time, broke down every emotional defence he had up, like a crack in a dam that grew and grew until a huge wave finally broke through. The pain in his belly, the overstimulating noise, the knowledge that every assignment would have to be pushed back for him to recover, was too much existentialism for the bus stop.Â
He gathered himself. Alistair turned to stare at where the bus would appear. He sat back on the bench, needing to feel the solid wood behind him. The gurgling hit a sharp note, his measly breakfast rumbling through the pit of his stomach. The organ twisted on bits of bread, trying to digest something that wouldnât move past his stomach. He rubbed a hand over the tight spot.Â
Focusing on his own body, he didnât notice the bus finally arriving. It pulled into the stop and Alistair had to force himself up, feeling his back slouch and his knees wobble, he stepped up onto the bus and sat on the closest free seat. He stared out the window, pulling a deep breath into his lungs. He closed his eyes, hoping the bus ride was the smoothest of his life.Â
â
Alistair trudged through the front door, groaning loudly to announce his presence. He pretty much threw his bag onto the ground, slamming the front door with his foot. The bus messed up his stomach even more, the churning getting worse and morphing into a nauseating mess inside him. He wrapped his left arm around his bloated belly, hunching over and went searching for Nikau.Â
The house was quiet, the only sound were Alistairâs heavy footfalls. God, he hated being sick. He groaned again when his stomach bubbled, the bug getting angrier by the second the longer he ignored it.Â
He got tired of searching, âNikau! Are you here babe?âÂ
There was a muffled reply that came from the bedroom. Alistair smiled to himself, excited to see his boyfriend after the day heâs had. His legs were heavy as he climbed up the stairs; the landing felt like it kept stretching further away from him like an oasis in a desert. His head pounded as he ascended making him shut his eyes as he finally made it to the second floor. Alistair pretty much threw his hand on the knob, knocking it down as he pushed his way inside the bedroom.Â
Nikau was on the bed, headphones in and laptop resting on his lap. He immediately brought a finger up to his lips, silencing Alistairâs planned complaint. Nikauâs face was very serious as he went back to staring at the laptop screen. The redheads mood decreased further, no longer feeling as excited as he was before, realising that he was going to have to wait.Â
Nonetheless, he sat down on the bed, flopping backward onto the pillow. His stomach rolled, making him groan deeply with the movement. Nikua shot him a look that withered the seed of hope in his chest. Alistair stole a look at the computer screen and saw the all familiar squares of a Zoom meeting. He frowned, Nikau hadnât mentioned this at all so it must have been sudden. No wonder he was so pissed off.Â
Alistair closed his eyes, throwing his forearm over his eyes. The darkness was incredibly comforting, the tension in his eyebrows and jaw releasing. His other hand was rubbing along the harsh lines on his lower belly where his jeans had been cutting into him. Alistairâs tummy rumbled, nausea increasing as he sat in darkness. He almost hoped Nikau was taking notice without him having to utter a word.Â
The room was quiet. Alistair heard the little taps of Nikauâs keyboard flowing into his ears. It was like ASMR, quieting the anxious little voice that wouldnât shut up. He couldnât wait till Nikauâs Zoom was over. He conjured up an image of both of them on the couch, Nikauâs hand rubbing soft circles into Alistairâs belly, muting the upset gurgles, with cups of tea and something stupid on the TV to distract him. Getting into bed and falling asleep with Nikauâs strong arms wrapped around his middle, magically getting better by the morning.Â
Alistair caught himself smiling at the thought. So dramatic. He huffed at his own voice. He breathed deeply, stomach inflating with breath. After everything, he almost fell asleep. However, Nikau had decided to slam his laptop shut, sighing angrily and pushing himself off the bed with a huff.Â
The bed shook and Alistairâs stomach sloshed, a heavy gurgle spreading across his middle. He threw his arm off his eyes, watching Nikau pace around the room and finally coming to a stop at the windowsill, leaning on it like he was in a period drama. Alistair sat up,Â
âNikau?âÂ
âWhat?â The word was spat out like a curse. Alistair immediately wondered what the Zoom had been about.Â
âAre you alright?â Alistair didnât notice how shaky his voice sounded, and neither did Nikau apparently. He turned around with a stormy look in his eyes, the setting sun outlined him. Alistair had to squint to look at him.Â
Nikau shook his head roughly, âDonât worry about it. I donât want to talk about it.âÂ
Alistair sighed, now nervous about telling him his own problems. He didnât have the chance though, Nikau already moving out of the room. Alistair got up to follow, vertigo crashing into him. He lost his footing a little, stumbling towards the dresser. He moaned as the world tilted sideways. Nikau turned around,Â
âWhat is wrong, Star? I donât have the energy right now.â His words stung, but he knew Nikau didnât really mean them.Â
âN-nothing.â As soon as the word left his mouth Nikau turned around and disappeared from sight. Alistair leaned against the dresser more, taking deep breaths in and out. His stomach was spinning, echoing his head. The more he stood there, the more anxious he felt about throwing up. It was definitely on the horizon and he felt tears prick at the corner of his eyes. Alistair made his way to the bathroom, vomiting inevitable.Â
His hand never left the wall, hunched over himself as the nausea increased the closer he got to the bathroom door. He slapped a hand over his mouth as he gagged, vomit filling his mouth and burning his tongue. He burst into the bathroom and leaned over the toilet, vomit spilling from his lips. He coughed harshly, a heave bringing up another fierce wave as he almost fell forward. His stomach gurgled, a wet burp preceding another gag and a mouthful of vomit. He had a moment of reprieve and he sat himself down, knees slamming into the tile. He wrapped his arms around his stomach, leaning over the toilet now that he had more stability.Â
His stomach brought up another wave, and Alistair was surprised at the amount of vomit coming up. Coughing, panting and groaning was all that was heard around the walls of the bathroom. Alistair thought he was being loud, but apparently not loud enough for Nikau to notice. He groaned, his neck losing its strength and his head fell forward. The gurgling noises coming from his insides werenât letting up, it almost felt like they were getting louder. He forced up a burp, which only made him gag, spitting up a chunky mouthful. Alistair moaned, arms squeezing tighter.Â
âFuck.â He whined, clearing his throat and hating the feeling of his saliva dangling from his lips. His knees ached on the floor. His headache grew, a pulsing right behind his eyes. His mouth filled with saliva again, jaw tingling, and another wave was brought up into the mess in front of him. His gut finally started to calm down a little so he took the time to catch his breath. Everything was aching, he was freezing, and now he was hiccuping. He sighed, running a hand down his sweaty face. His hair was sticking to his forehead now and he felt disgusting.Â
He sniffled, spitting out the last remains. His hands shook as he flushed away the mess. He shakily stood, washed his hands quickly and threw some water over his face and swirled some in his mouth. He hoped Nikau had calmed down a little, it was already bad enough he felt like shit he didnât want to feel even worse by making Nikau upset.Â
Alistair left the bathroom with a heavy gait. His journey down the stairs was thankfully uneventful, but by the time he made it down he felt weaker than he did immediately after vomiting. He felt like he was about to pass out. Making his way slowly to the living room, he kept his arm wrapped around his middle and found Nikau scrolling on his phone.Â
He cleared his throat, âNikau?âÂ
The man hummed, not even looking at Alistair. Alistair sagged a little, a bit defeated that his boyfriend was paying him any attention. He moved on then, to the kitchen where he fixed himself a healthy meal of ibuprofen and water. He gulped down a mouthful, wary of drinking too much. He leant back against it, staring out at the back of Nikauâs head. He still was curious as to what had upset him so much, but he knew he needed to let Nikau deal with it on his own for a bit.Â
All this thinking distracted him from his condition, but a cramp hit his belly right as he relaxed a bit too much. He gasped, his hand clutching his tummy, the ibuprofen coming back with a vengeance. He powered through it alone, fever addled brain making him feel worse that Nikau hadnât even got up from his seat at Alistairâs noise. His pitiful thinking brought on more tears, but these were unable to be stopped. They made tracks down his cheeks, meeting on his jawline and falling to the ground. His belly cramped again, Alistair hunching over himself and using the bench as a support to not fall immediately to the ground.Â
He clamped a hand over his mouth when a sob broke through, desperately trying to make himself quiet. Nikau didnât need extra worry. Nikau didnât want extra worry. Nikau didnât want to help.Â
No matter how much he tried to be silent, Alistairâs cries werenât unheard. Nikau turned his head, noticing right away the state Alistair was in. He got up in a rush, throwing his phone down and approached his sickly boyfriend.Â
His hands landed on Alistairâs upper arms, âStar, hey are you okay?â
Alistair fell forward, his forehead landing on Nikauâs shoulder. His cries got louder then, âNo, I feel like absolute rubbish, Nikau. My belly hurts.â He whined, arms winding tighter around his middle.Â
âOh, love, Iâm so sorry for not noticing. How long have you felt like this?â His hands moved to Alistairâs warm back, moving up and down his spine.Â
âSince lunch. I thought I might have just been hungry but it just got worse,â He paused, unsure if he should say this, âI threw up before.âÂ
Alistair nodded, a few more tears slipping past his eyes. Nikau sighed, pulling Alistair back into a gentle hug. The heat from Alistairâs body made Nikau feel warm, and he connected the dots as to why his boyfriend was so upset. He felt terrible. But, now that he understood he knew exactly what to do.Â
He pulled back more slowly this time, watching Alistairâs eyes flutter with another cramp. He hissed in sympathy.Â
âOkay, sweetheart let's get you settled. Iâll get you feeling better in no time.â He tried to peel Alistair off the counter as gently as possible, coming around to his side and wrapping his arm around his shoulders. They moved as one towards the living room, Nikau depositing Alistair on the couch and reaching for the nearest blanket to lay over his lap. He leant forward and got Alistairâs attention by cupping his hands on his jaw,Â
âBe right back.âÂ
Alistair watched him leave, sinking down into the couch. His thoughts were still running, but as he sat down he admittedly felt a tad better. His stomach calmed down a little, and his legs were thankful that he was sitting down and resting. Alistair leaned his head back on the couch, hand resting on the crest of his swollen stomach.Â
He barely moved when Nikau returned, he heard a bucket be placed on the coffee table, and he felt the couch dip as Nikau sat next to him. The man touched his knee,Â
âYou feeling okay? You donât look so good, babe.âÂ
Alistair shook his head, âI really donât feel good.â Turning his head he met Nikauâs eyes, a pitiful expression on his face. Nikau made a clicking noise with his teeth, sitting a little closer to put his hand on Alistairâs belly. He leaned forward and kissed his cheek as he started to rub Alistairâs upset stomach.Â
Alistair moaned, the cramps coming back with the touch of Nikauâs fingertips. He pushed his stomach out, needing the pressure and comforting weight. Nikau quickly got the memo, pushing a little deeper into his belly. He burped, covering his mouth with his hand.Â
âItâs okay, sweetheart. If you need to let them out just do it.âÂ
The man groaned at the feel of another burp forcing its way up his throat. His hand joined Nikau on his tummy, rubbing the underside as it swelled with pressure. His stomach wasnât perfectly flat, yet the softness of his belly was completely overtaken by the bloating of this illness, the skin stretched tight as it worked its way through his guts. His throat jumped at a wet burp, chest lurching. Nikau paused,Â
âAre you gonna throw up?âÂ
Alistair shook his head, âJust gassy.âÂ
Nikau hummed, kissing his cheek again. The room fell silent bar Alistairâs stomach and burping. There was a tension in the air though, Nikau was the first to break it.Â
âIâm sorry about not noticing how sick you were before. Also, I ignored you when you were clearly ill. Iâm sorry, Star.âÂ
Alistair didnât really know what to say. His brain was too muddled to come up with a response, too much pain and exhaustion, so he just shook his head and leaned into Nikau, hoping that was enough to get Nikau to relax. It felt like he did, his hand was still rubbing along the swell of his belly and his other hand was playing with the wavy strands of hair at the crown of Alistairâs head.Â

Sicktember Day 3: âWhat happened to your phenomenal immune system, huh?â
Description: James is sick but Trent needs someone to keep him together.Â
Trent is 26 James is 25. TW for content; mentions of child abuse, assault, and panic attacks.
The drive back to his apartment is normally one of Jamesâs favorite parts of his day. He turns up the radio and can drown out all the chaos in his mind. Today, however, the drive is proving tedious at best. Thereâs a deep-seated exhaustion sitting in his bones and the beginning of a headache creeping in. James rolls his muscular shoulders and tries to blink away the fatigue; the day isnât over yet. Before he can go home and pass out in his bed, he needs to stop by Trentâs place and check up on him. Daisy and Aiden are out of town on some kind of âwriting retreatâ, and James had promised to check up on the young lawyer.Â
James pulls up outside of the rundown apartment building that Trent lives in and parks his truck. As he steps out, he winces when the throbbing in his head picks up slightly. He shrugs it off and walks towards the stairs. His fatherâs voice echoes in his head.
âAndersen men donât take sick days, sonâ
The sentiment has held true for the most part, James canât recall a single time his father missed work or church because of illness ,and James has worked through nearly every sickness and injury unless he couldnât physically get out of bed. Save for the time he got a concussion during a training exercise, and was ordered to be on bed rest, James has never taken a sick day. He has on multiple occasions boasted about his âImmune system of steelâ, something that is evidently failing him at the moment.Â
When James gets to the front door of Trentâs apartment, he pauses to clear his throat, before knocking. He can hear Trent on the other side of the door, pacing and muttering, itâs not a good sign. After a few moments, Trent opens the door and Jamesâs concern immediately increases. His friend looks to be on the verge of a full blown breakdown. His eyes are blown wide and itâs clear heâs been crying. Trentâs lower lip is raw and slightly bloody from when heâs been chewing it. Thereâs some dried blood on his knuckles and James has no doubt heâll find a new dent in one of the apartment walls.Â
âHey man, what happened?â
James' voice is soft and cautious as he walks into the living room. Trent starts pacing again, looking like a caged animal. His shoulders are shaking and his breathing is bordered on hyperventilating. Trent doesnât respond to James' question at first. James waits patiently, he knows how easily Trent can be startled when heâs like this. After a few minutes, Trent drops down on the couch and hunches over. He sucks in a shaky breath and then looks up at James with red-rimmed eyes.Â
âI, h-he was t-there. At the office today, Wilton Blakely.â Trent whispers. The name is unfamiliar to James, but it clearly holds some significance with Trent. âHe c-came up to me and t-t-touched me. Kept going on about how great m-my f-father was.âJames sits down on the couch a few inches from Trent and places a hand on his friend's knee to help ground him.Â
Trent chokes back a sob and swallows thickly. His eyes begin to dart around the room. James can sense the impending panic attack and he squeezes Trentâs knee firmly. âDid he hurt you?âJames asks carefully. Trent shakes his head and leans into James ever so slightly. He sucks in an unsteady breath before speaking, his voice barely a whisper.
âW-when I was eight, my parents had some dinner party and I spilled some water on him.â Trent flinches suddenly, he can still feel the sting of the first slap and his cheek even after all these years. âI-I-I-I d-didnât m-mean to, but it d-didnât matter.â. Trent doesnât have to finish the rest of the story for James to know what happened. He is well aware of the torment Trent faced at the hand of his âparentsâ and it makes James feel sick everytime he thinks about it. James instinctively pulls his friend closer and rubs Trentâs back to calm him down.Â
âI probably deserved it anyway.â Trent says with a hollow laugh.
James shakes his head and hugs Trent. âYou didnât deserve it, any of it. What they did to you was horrible, but they canât hurt you anymore. Alright?âJames states firmly. Trent nods and slumps against James.
âWhy donât you shower and Iâll order some food?â James offers when Trent pulls away. Trent nods and stands up, he still looks rough and James has a feeling itâs going to be a long night.Â
While Trent showers, James orders food. He hasnât eaten since breakfast, which is probably why his head and stomach hurt, and Trent canât take his meds on an empty stomach. Italian food seems like a safe bet, so James orders some pasta dishes to be delivered and flips through the TV channels until he finds something neutral to watch. He settles on Parks and Recreation, which seems like a safe bet.Â
The food arrives shortly after Trent emerges from the shower and the two men settle on the couch and eat in relative silence. James isnât exactly hungry, but he eats anyway hoping it will help his headache go away. Trent picks at his food, absentmindedly watching the show and occasionally cracking a shy smile at the jokes. When Trent has eaten most of his dinner, James heads to the kitchen to grab Trentâs anxiety and insomnia medication along with some aspirin for himself. James hands Trent his pills along with a bottle of water and watches as his friend swallows. Trents eyes are still puffy and far-away but he seems to be doing better. James clears away the food and tries to ignore the overly-full sensation in his belly. He really hadnât eaten that much, especially considering his normal appetite, but evidently his stomach disagrees.
âT-thank you.â Trent mumbles when James walks back into the living room. James smiles and squeezes his shoulder,âNo problem man.â, he replies.Â
They watch a few more episodes; Trent relaxes more and more as the medication takes effect. James, on the other hand, grows ever more uncomfortable. Dinner is sitting like a rock in his stomach, refusing to digest. Occasionally he can feel the food churning sickly and his belly rumbles quietly, clearly displeased with his choice to eat. Apparently what James felt earlier was not hunger, but rather the beginning of a stomach bug. James places a hand on his midsection and rubs at it discreetly. He can feel a slight bloat to his abdomen along with the queasy ache. Now that his brain isnât focused on taking care of a panicked Trent, James realizes just how terrible he feels. A wet burp rumbles up his throat and he muffles it in his fist.Â
Trent doesnât seem to notice his friend's condition, or if he does he doesnât mention it. His eyes begin to droop and he slumps further into the couch yawning. The tension has eased from his shoulders and his breathing is calmer. James takes note and grabs the remote to turn the television off.Â
âI think itâs bedtime, yeah?â James asks, turning to Trent.Â
The young lawyer nods sleepily and stands up, walking towards the bathroom to brush his teeth. He turns back towards James and looks at him with sad pleading eyes.
âC-can you st-stay?â
James smiles at the request. He knows that Trent is prone to nightmares following a panic attack and he hadnât planned to leave his friend anyway. Hearing Trent openly request it is definitely progress though.Â
âOf course, Iâll be right out here if you need me buddy.â
Trentâs shoulders relax even further and he walks into the bathroom.Â
Once Trent has left the room, James lets out another wet burp. It doesnât bring him any relief and he presses his hand against his aching belly hoping to coax up another burp. He does, but it brings with it a splash of his dinner, which he quickly swallows back down. His stomach grumbles in response and cramps.Â
James stands up carefully and goes to the hall closet where he has a stash of spare clothes. Itâs not the first time heâs spent the night here and it wonât be the last. He changes into a fresh shirt and a pair of loose sweatpants. The waist band digs into his puffy belly and James winces, rubbing tenderly and trying not groan when he bends over to pick up his other clothes. The action of bending over sends up another splash of acid and food into his throat. For a moment James thinks heâs going to puke, but nothing happens and he returns to the couch.Â
Trent has left a pillow and blanket on the couch for him. James settles onto the couch and curls in on himself. He hugs his bulky arms around his middle and squeezes his eyes shut. With any luck, heâll be able to fall asleep.Â
For the better part of an hour, James tries to sleep, with no success. His stomach hurts and keeps making increasingly loud and distressed sounds. His head is throbbing, despite the aspirin, and perhaps worst of all; James is alone with his thoughts. Everytime he shuts his eyes, he can see Drewâs face or the face of someone else he lost. His mind is flooded with the images of everyone he couldnât save and it only makes him more nauseated. This tends to happen anytime he gets a fever and James hates it.Â
Trent is sleeping soundly in the next room over and James really doesnât want to disturb him, but he almost wishes Trent would wake up. At least then he would have something else to focus on.
Another cramp ripples through his middle and James bites back a groan. He can still taste dinner in his mouth along with the bitter saliva that keeps flooding in. James stands up, slightly unsteady, and quietly walks to the bathroom. He grabs his toothbrush that Trent keeps here and attempts to brush his teeth. The action makes him gag and James drops the toothbrush leaning over the sick to retch.
His stomach contracts as he gags but all that he manages is a pathetic dribble of bitter drool. He turns and kneels in front of the toilet, squeezing his eyes shut as the world seems to spin around him. Memories flood his brain and James grips the rim of the toilet until his knuckles are white.Â
His back arches and he burps, bringing up a gush of puke; quickly followed by another. James pants over the water; the smell and sight of his partially disgusted dinner makes him gag again. James wraps one of his arms around his middle and uses the other to brace himself over the toilet. His belly gurgles under his hand and contracts sending up another wave of vomit.Â
When he finishes, James flushes the toilet and washes his face and mouth, before returning to couch. He had hoped that Trent would stay asleep during his bout of sickness, but Trent is a light sleeper even when medicated.Â
âWhat happened to your phenomenal immune system, huh?â
Trent is sitting on a chair by the couch when James enters the living room. Thereâs a bucket next to the couch and a bottle of water in Trentâs hand. James flops on the couch and burps into his hand. Trent doesnât comment but he looks worried just the same. James doesnât usually get sick and Trent isnât quite sure how to respond. âI would offer you my bed but I know you wonât take it. Just know that itâs yours if you want.â Trent says as James takes a tentative sip of the water.Â
When the water doesnât immediately come back up, James takes another tiny sip and sets the bottle down on the coffee table. He settles on the couch and looks up at Trent.
âThanks man, sorry for waking you up.â James says yawning.
Trent stands up and pats James shoulder awkwardly. âItâs no problemâ he replies as he heads back to bed.Â
James finally manages to fall asleep, his stomach settling somewhat after having purged itself. His dreams are far from peaceful, but James canât remember a time when they were. When he wakes up he decides that, just this once, an Adersen man is going to take a damn sick day.Â
I will edit later enjoy some James and Trent whump xx
