The Great Curator

Like for a random starter, friends!

The door slammed behind her as she entered, and as if he hadn’t lost a step, The Curator moved around the console. He turned switches, pushed buttons, and grinned as he went about. “-let me see here... choices and choices upon decisions of decisions!” he beamed as the console room hummed and whirred and wheezed. There was a THUD when they landed, and The Curator moved to the door. With a deep breath he opened it wide, only to be met with a blade to his throat “-do not move, foe. You are on OUR land.”  “Well... bother....”

“I was young. I was foolish. I did not think of the long term. Of the future. YOUR future. I cursed you.” he moved around the table, and in a rare move of tenderness, he cupped her cheek. “-My dear girl. I will always be with you. Whether I exist or not. My words... my lessons. My advice. Will ALWAYS be with you. But.. I can’t cheat. I’ve cheated too much. And this is the price I pay now. The Doctor is already dead. I’m just The Curator. And soon, he too must die.”

“You have a life to leave outside of here Peri,” he mused, as he took a sip of tea “-you can’t just stay here... you shouldn’t. Everyone I travel with leaves. They need to. They need to exist,” he gestured vaguely with his hand. However, when he did, the door behind Peri swung open, revealing his console room. “-you cheeky girl,” he whispered, and grinned “-right.. one trip,” he held up a finger, and moved to his feet. “-just one. And then.. you live your life Ms. Brown.”

The man swayed a bit, but steadied himself with the cane. “-nobody is meant to live forever,” he said, his voice cold, and tired. “-You of all people know what sort of burden that is. I’ve already lived longer than I am meant to. Twelve renegerations. That’s all we’re allowed. I was given more... but I feel the age,” he swallowed hard and closed his eyes “-I’ve seen Time Lords succumb to the desire of immortality. It ruins them.” he was quiet then. For a very long time. “-you.. should go. I am tired... and... I have work to do.”
