GENTLEMAN OF THE LUNAR CYCLE

He exhales a ragged breath, swallowing hard. It was clearly something that had been stretching him thin for awhile– but he was terrified about what the outcome could be.

"Considering I used to bring in most of it from my endeavors.. I think you're the last one to find that out." He chuckles. "You think guns are cheap, or half the stuff I kept in that storage unit?" He raised an eyebrow right back. Well.. that was his attempt. He could only assume it wasn't reciprocated by Steven's reaction, and that was.. fine. It was fine. It was not fine.

"I was content with it to let you have a life." He said with a shrug, glancing over at him. "At this point, I wonder if I wasnt just holding you back the whole time.." how could he not, when Steven had all this to show for it now?

He couldn’t help but scrunch up his nose at Marc’s words. “You didn’t. I, for one, know you haven’t done anything like that. I’m just… I got to get out of my comfort zone, sort of.” Because now, he was a little more confident, yes. Still, habits and thoughts of insecurity linger. “I just am doing better now because I have a reason to— for everyone.” And it was the drive and his passion to be able to get to where he was today. Film making isn’t cheap.

"If he hasn't said it directly.. Jake would be proud of how far you've come." He was, too. He had still stuck to his usual line of work, unknowing that Khonshu was still watching over them. "One day I'll have to fly you back out– Layla would love to see you, I'm sure."

A pleased smile on his lips made his face brighten as he chuckles. “And hopefully this time you don’t punch me in the face for flirting with your ex-wife.”

He huffed softly, grumbling. "I'm not making any promises.." he was teasing, of course; hiding the smirk behind his mug of coffee. "I warned you, that's not my fault you didn't listen."

“It’s called shooting my shot. And I pretty much shoot well! You’re just jealous that I’ve got better charms than you.” Steven slowly preens, chest out in smugness as he huffed through his nose.

He was quiet a moment before he laughed. "If I wanted anyone, I could have them." He said with a scowl. The one person he wanted, of course, well.. that wasn't happening.

Offended that his words got laughed at, Steven frowns. “Oh really? And yet you’re doing nothing to get them. Seems to me you’re just scared.” He said with a little barb to his tone. And yes, he was challenging Marc.

"Who says that I even want anyone right now?" He huffed right back at him, getting up and walking over to pour himself a cup of coffee. He couldn't.. He couldn't let Steven know it was him.

“Because it seems like you’ll need that someone.” Head nodding said with a shrug of his shoulder, humming noncommittally. “It’ll be good for you.”

He grumbled to himself as he drank his coffee, expression knitted into that familiar scowl. "Ajd what if they're not that kind of person?" He had no extend if the other two felt things differently.. like that.

From where he was, Steven looks at Marc with an eyebrow raised. “Like what kind of person?” Because leave it to Marc to be cryptic as possible—as always.

He feels his face burn hot at the sudden question, averting his gaze. "..Nevermind– It's not important." He mumbles.

A frown appeared on his face. "Really, Marc?" Steven can't help but sigh deeply. "Well, this just proves my point—you're scared." Was he baiting the other to tell him? Yes. Yes he was.

His head snaps up, glaring at him. "I know what you're doing, and it isn't going to work." He grumbled in annoyance. Oh, if only he really knew.

He puts on a clueless expression, shrugging a shoulder. "I don't know what you're talking about. But clearly, I know that you're scared enough not to talk about this special person of yours." Oh, yes. Steven was pulling out the guns on this one. He really wants to know what Marc is trying to hide.

"Sometimes proximity is enough so you don't fuck everything up forever." How could he not be? Steven constantly surrounded himself by beautiful women and models. What the hell could he give him that was good enough to even compare, let alone Layla.

"Because, Marc, one cannot feel satisfied with just proximity along if anybody's not someone's one and only." Steven sighed, leaning back, head shaking. "Does it look like I'm satisfied with what I have now?" Arms spread to his side. "Without you guys, I feel incomplete."

"Steven.." he swallowed the sudden lump of emotion in his throat, gaze softening when hazel eyes shifted to look over at him. "Are you.. unhappy?" He asks slowly with a frown at his words.

He couldn't help but lightly chuckle, head shaking. "Unhappy wouldn't be the word I'd use." And he hums, thinking what word to use to express. "It's somewhat... somewhere between unfulfilled and unsatisfied?" He made it sound like a question as he wasn't really sure too with the words he used.

He sighs, walking over to where he is. "What can I do to help?" He says with sincerity, sitting down next to him again. He hated the idea of him feeling either of those things. "You have so much now, Steven.. what could you be missing?"

Turning to face the other, watching him approach, Steven can't help but scoff, head shaking. "Oh, we're not having this about me, Marc. You haven't answered my question." And because he wasn't going to let the other change the topic so easily. They'll both talk about his issues... after.

He scoffed. "It's not important if somethings upsetting you." He frowned. Was it partially a ploy to change the subject? Maybe. But.. technically he wasn't changing the subject, not that Steven knew that.

“And you still haven’t answered my question.” He urged the other, looking at him expectantly. Marc was not getting away that easily.

He looked away, huffing quietly. "Maybe I dont want to." He grumbled, face burning hot. The last thing he needed was rejection- He couldn't stand it if Steven never spoke to him again.

He dragged a hand down his face, groaning. He looked away, expression unreadable. "And what if they aren't into men?" It was the first he'd truly admitted it- And he didn't know if him or Jake knew. He wasn't sure how much they knew.

"No– And that's the problem." The only men he had seen Steven around was him and Jake, but that didn't necessarily prove anything. "Don't.. Say anything to Layla." He wasn't 100% gay by any means, but he felt it might've brought up suspicions of possible reasons of why their marriage had fallen apart. He inhales a shaky breath, lips pressed together tightly.

Seeing the hardened expression on his face, Steven slowly looks down. Well, Marc has always been the hardheaded type. With a sigh, he gave up and slowly looks back up to give him a small smile. “Well, if that ever happens, I’ll always be here for you, Marc.”
