The fact that anemones can move bothers me less than the fact that they move by walking. All the other squishy sea-dwelling invertebrates swim and call it a day, but no, anemones just gotta be different.

Fun marine biology fact time: This anemone (Stomphia sp.) is kinda trying to swim.  See how it fans out its top in the first gif?  It’s basically turning its body into an umbrella to catch a current, while at the same time wiggling back and forth to get up high enough into the water column that it’ll drift away from the sea star.  Also, as far as I know, it’s only species of Stomphia that display this behavior.  Other anemones can move, but they do so rarely and slowly by creeping around on their pedal disk like a slug.
