angel who’s halo functions as an antenna for AM radio. angel who can tune to different stations by spinning its halo. angel who has taken a vow of silence, but communicates through splicing bits of the radio transmissions together to form sentences. angel that sings you to sleep by allowing soft staticky music play at a low volume.

the angel is the manifestation of a rolling thunderstorm put into the form of a person. sometimes it struggles to maintain its form and you can feel the static electricity in the air around it. if you lay your head on its chest you can feel the rumbling of thunder that seems so far away. it’s a force of nature. it has no say in where it goes or what it does, but for a moment it rests with you. count yourself fortunate.
Most people, when they think of catching fireflies, picture glass jars and children running through the night. It’s a nice memory for them, I suppose, catching and releasing these creatures they barely give any thought to, but horribly inefficient and wasteful for our purposes. See, the best way to catch fireflies is to take a pot, mug, teapot—anything you’re fond of, but not enough you’d mind if it broke.
…Mm. Yeah, happens more often than you think, though usually that happens after.
Some witches, they make a show of making salt circles, setting the stage, performing whimsy for whimsy’s sake, but all you really need is to set your vessel down by a good river or field. See, like moths, they’re drawn to pinpricks of light most people can’t begin to see, tiny brains captivated by the ghosts of emotion. You’ll catch a handful of actual moths too, yes, perhaps even a grasshopper or cicada. If you’d like, sift those out before you place it in the skull cavity; you’ve all heard the dolls that can’t quite contain their discordant, confused buzz of awawa, yes?
It’s standard dollcraft from here on out: seal the seams with whatever suits you, spend at least six hours with it each day until its essence becomes more doll than husk, and make sure to feed it plenty of tea. Usually takes a week or two for the bugs to spread out, lighten its limbs with their wings, rewrite bobbing flight patterns into happy nods and adjust to a body template so different from its original. Takes even longer for it to work all its wings and newfound jawbones into speech, but then again, most dolls rarely need a voice.
Hm? You won’t see the fireflies again, but when the doll smiles, perhaps you might catch their light peeking out behind its teeth.
