Kaito and Kokichi both claim to be in the Exisal like in the original, but the "truth" that they tell everyone is that whilst Maki went to the hangar to save Kaito, Kokichi killed her using an Exisal (and when everyone remains dubious, Kaito claims it was a lucky hit even he witnessed.) Kaito then claims he killed Kokichi to avenge her.

However, to keep everyone on their toes, Kokichi tries to convince everyone Kaito killed Maki by accident whilst chasing Kokichi with an Exisal, which leads Shuichi to believe that their first lie - the lie that Kokichi killed Maki - is the truth. Kaito then sheepishly reveals he crushed both Kokichi and Maki because he was ashamed and didn't want to face the truth (of killing someone), so he thought if he could hide what he had done, maybe he could hide from the truth just a little longer. No one wants to believe Kaito then killed Kokichi in revenge, but Kaito insists to vote for him, and uses his trump card that his illness is going to kill him soon to hurry everyone along. Even Monokuma is like, "Don't you dare die before your punishment."

Additional notes:

- Kaito makes Kokichi drink the antidote during the class trial because like hell is he letting anyone die on his watch

-Kokichi and Maki have a (tense) heart to heart about bloodying their hands and their hatred of murder. Maki realises Kokichi well and truly doesn't trust anyone here and realises if Kaito hadn't intervened, she could've ended up like Kokichi. Kokichi meanwhile acknowledges how badly he messed up, and Maki and Kaito conclude that he got Gonta and Miu killed as a strange sort of mercy, and that figuring out the truth about the killing game became a weight that he couldn't carry alone.

-Kaito then acknowledges he shouldn't have written Kokichi off so quickly, and wishes he tried to get to know him better sooner. He makes Kokichi and Maki promise that they'll try to get along before they get out of the Exisal, knowing the moment they all do, things will be chaos.

-Kaito is voted as the killer but when Monokuma sees that everyone is alive, he just sort of glitches. When he returns online, he tells everyone that the show must go on, and that his team (wink wink Team Danganronpa) can just make a few edits to make the trial work before the episode is aired, which baffles everyone because??? What does that mean???

-He then tells everyone that they need to vote one last time. Monokuma announces that they have a killer, but still need a victim, so tells everyone that they need to vote whether Maki or Kokichi get to stay alive. Monokuma says if they vote, only Kaito and the decided victim has to die. If everyone refuses, he'll just kill everyone.

-Kaito, Kokichi and Maki immediately refuse to vote, and encourage everyone else to do the same. Just as they almost have everyone to agree, Tsumugi 'accidentally' trips and votes for Kokichi, and it finally clicks for him who the mastermind is. However, he doesn't get the chance to call her out just yet.

-Whilst Monokuma is like lmao okay let's kill Kokichi off screen and pretend everything is okay, Maki pulls herself and Kokichi back into the Exisal and refuses to let Monokuma kill anyone.

-Whilst Maki and Monokuma bicker, Kaito realises he is about to die, but then worries about Monokuma punishing Maki since if he dies, Monokuma could say his cause of death is poison. Kaito realises there is a loophole he can take advantage of, so Kaito decides to break a rule and fights Monokuma, who automatically kills him via spears before realising that whoops, he just killed the 'blackened'.

-Monokuma once again glitches (this time it's Team Danganronpa turning him off so he can't accidentally punish anyone else.) Tsumugi ponders out loud that maybe the trial has been cancelled, but then the Monokubs arrive, announcing they've come to collect Maki and Kokichi so they can fix the fifth trial (aka, record a punishment and body discovery)
