Tony Last
Tony represents the ignorance of the upper classes in Britain about their loss of superiority after the war.
He has this view that upper class people are more morally inclined than the poor such as his trust in Brenda leading him to be cuckholded and threatened in the divorce proceedings.
His side quest is acc just pure horror. Wdym you're kidnapped and forced to read Charles Dickens fr the rest of yours days. He is also now in a place that values hierarchy, does not move with the times and has a link to classical literature effectively giving him his wish of the Britain he once knew.
Brenda Last
Would have loved Happy Valley
She represents the vapid rich who spend days doing nothing but socialising and indulging. She reports to her husband about how she spends egregiously and only parties in London.
I still don't know if she took that stupid economics course
She is self absorbed and can genuinely not see why Tony won't give 2,000 to her in the divorce proceedings like girl. Has this outdated idea that because she's aristocratic she is deserving of everything.

No one really cares this guy has died. They cry about it for a while but like it has no real effect on those two.
Like Tony wonders if Brenda wil regret not being home that much after his death like you too barely hung out in the book. Your son acc preferred the stable man
He was absolutely going to grow up to be a massive twat though
The house
Brenda hates this house while Tony loves it. Brenda's whole family shows a disinclination to having a family house while Tony is obsessed with the estate that takes most of his money and is stated to be ugly and outdated.
They operate on two extremes. Brenda's inability to care about others thoughts such as her husband not wishing her to change the house demonstrates a self absorbed nature and her willingness to see rid of her homes shows her ennui and lack of connection to reality.
Tony's obsession with the house shows his inability to let go of the past and move with the times. The estate costs an insane amount to upkeep. His link to his house shows that he values the aristocratic family lines and that he cannot move with the post war times.
Mr Beaver or whatever his name is
This is commentary on the children of the rich who dont get jobs and live off the wealth of their parents. Like you cannot be calling your mother mumsy at the ripe age of 20 something. These people lack a personality and thus succeed in high society with their ability to keep up with trivial gossip
