After 2+ years, I finally made it back to my favorite spot on the bike path, by the 1909 retaining wall.
If it can last 117 years, I can last 5k!
Currently managing to jog 5k with only one 90-second walk break. Progress.
First month of running in 2+ years... going well so far. I'm skeptical about whether a Garmin watch can really measure VO2max, but I guess it's measuring something, and I like graphs that go up.
Unrelated, I am amused that there's a running store called the Fallen Arch. Guess I'm easily amused.
So slow. So very slow!
Every day, a man stops at a news stand during his morning walk. He scans all the front-page headlines, then walks away without buying a paper.
One day the owner of the news stand asks, "Can I help you find anything? What are you looking for?"
"An obituary."
"But the obituaries are in the back pages."
"Not the one I'm looking for."
Happy Spring! Glad to finally resume visits to this outdoor gym. First visit since Fall.
Alas, some teeny little box jumps caused immediate discomfort in L knee. If only the phrase, "Well, that's new" could be something positive!
Went for a walk/run later on, and everything felt fine, even through the next day. But now I'm gun-shy about jumping.
So, eh, could be worse. Just one more thing to keep an eye on.

You can be anything you want to be. So be the person who ends meetings early. - Kevin Kelly
I've started running again. This time I'm doing my homework!
It's been over 2 years since I did any cardio other than walking. So... yikes. So far I'm just working a few 90-second run intervals into my walks.
On the bright side I'm pretty lean these days, and I no longer drink, so maybe the c25k will go faster than expected.
Cue the Rocky training-montage music, and wish me luck.
Chunks along the Mohawk. Some flooding nearby.
Suddenly mild weather; would've been a great day to start my Couch-to-5k, but honestly I'm not even ready for that. These days I'm just upping my walking mileage, gradually, to baby my foot. Next week I'll try some walk/run intervals.
America... a fragmented and so divided society that likes to call itself a melting pot, but is realistically more of a charcuterie board. It has all these wonderful, exotic flavors, and then you keep making it worse by adding too many crackers. - David Nihill, Irish stand-up comic

😂
1st laugh of the year = auto-repost
FB is mostly trash, but there are still amusing accounts on there. Like the Merriam-Webster page making fun of spotify wrapped.
After some minor surgery I'm feeling much better (finally!), so I'm getting fit again. I finally tried the outdoor Fitness Court on campus. Apparently they're nation-wide.
It seems like it might work for TRX workouts... anyone here still remember WorkHardNoExcuses? She was into TRX. My original fitness inspiration. I must have pissed her off as she eventually stopped talking to me. My loss. Her memory still inspires me, enough to try some TRX moves, but very hesitantly since I don't know WTF I'm doing, and I do not want to fall on that hard concrete. Guess I need to re-watch that beginner's TRX video on youtube.
Still, always good to Do Something For The First Time. At the very least it's a good place to do some hangs and attempt chin-ups, and it's for the best that I learned how bad my box jumps suck. Some things to work on. Here's to you, WHNE, wherever you are.
Nice turnout at the Troy No Kings Day! The scene at the riverfront, and the line of marchers going to and across the bridge.
But I think whoever they had singing folk songs missed a golden opportunity -- they didn't sing Woody Guthrie's "All You Fascists Bound to Lose"! Next time, hopefully.
Congratulate me
I've gone over two weeks without alcohol. My big NY's resolution, finally checked off. For me, a big deal, since it must have been over 10 years since I went even 1 week without drinking.
Two weeks down; the rest of my life, to go, I think. At the very least, a dry 2025 for me.
I'm pleasantly surprised that I've had almost no cravings. Simply not having any wine in the house is key, I think.
Alas, the mild discomfort in my gut is only feeling a little better now. I'd hoped that dropping alcohol would make me feel better. So... I've started phase 2: Low-FODMAP diet. A week in, and I don't feel different.
So now starts phase 3 of trying to feel better in my gut: Gradually cutting my coffee consumption in half. Did I say "congratulate me"? I think I meant "pray for me." That mug gets to empty so damn fast!

The view from my back door.
Happy we-made-it-past-xmas to all!
If you see this you’re legally obligated to reblog and tag with the book you’re currently reading
First, "Outlive" by Peter Attia -- health, wellness, preventive medicine, etc... (resuming where I left off)
"Convergence Problems" by Wole Talabi -- sci-fi short stories from an African perspective.
Both very good, so far
