Just watched Anora
Uhm, overall I would say it’s a good film with lots of discussions to be unpacked from its scenes and overall point of the story. It’s very explicit and with vivid adult contents, which is understood since it’s one of the foundations of the story. I saw one reedit post that says it was “almost amazing” and it connected to what I was thinking as well. I do know that the way the end scenes were headed was all based on what the director wanted it to be, it’s not a redemptive ending, it leaves you hanging with all the could be’s and what if’s. I was yearning for more meaning and purpose but I didn’t get it, but that’s more on my preference side. It would be amazing to uncover and explore more of Anora’s and Igor’s story, give more emotionally rich dialogues which can bring some closure to what the characters are feeling, turn some of the gaze and actions into words, and much definite clues to what will happen in the next chapter. I’m probably just looking for a redemption, emotionally and physically for Anora. She was so broken, she needs healing so much and I see Igor’s character to have that potential in giving the patience and love that she may need, considering that the feelings were continually and deeply nurtured by more authentic bond between them. I was disappointed with the ending because she ended up doing what she was doing all along to the man whom I thought was gonna be different from them all… but I read in a review that it was more than physical connection, but an emotional one as she breaks down on him.
It would be so nice to delve deeper to Anora and Igor’s characters. I think it still has something more to offer.
Anyways, I view Vanya as an auxiliary, I hate his character.
That’s all!
