Ya I mean can you imagine trying to sell that song as being about a partner. It makes no sense when it comes to the public narrative, he wasn't even with Eleanor at the time he was 18 and even if he was, the lyrics don't fit as being about her. Idk why everyone is surprised/frustrated about the public explanation as to the song being about the fans. He literally cannot say it is about a romantic relationship without making it obvious it's about harry. And also, I do think there is an element where he thought of larries when writing the song so I do think it's a little bit about the fans. Just not all the fans

I think he wanted to write a song about having someone (Harry) by his side all along, but knew he had to cover it up. Adding lyrics or promoting it in a way that makes it seem to be about fans makes complete sense.

God. I know. They were all just babies. It’s painful, honestly.

I'm an older lesbian who had to be very careful in my career. I told two people in each company I worked for I was gay and I chose the two people I knew who would happily spread the gossip. Nothing could be official, because there were no protections. Stopping the speculation was the best "protection" I had. When my ex and I were building a house together, my boss would ask questions. I knew he was gay and he was pretty sure I was gay - but he was also married with kids so he had a cover. Same with the next company. The president of the company was very nice to me and my partner and treated us like a couple. But only unofficially. It was a "fine line" navigating the corporate world and staying in the closet - but peeking out. Things were fine for about 20 years until a guy came in and fired everyone he suspected as gay. The problem = he fired someone who was never married but was not gay. After losing my job (because I was gay) I left the industry for a while and when I came back there WERE protections at the same company on a corporate basis. We were voted one of the best LGBT+ companies to work for. I cringe when I hear "just come out". IMO the people who say that have no clue what they are talking about.

The risk is high that H and L will lose fans when they do come out. How many and how severe? No one knows. I do think the costuming for TTT is very intentional - moving Harry from his hitties stage to a more serious look. He is a serious artist and he wants to be taken as a serious artist. I read this week the largest demographic for the Brazil concerts was fans 50 and older. Fast forward 20 years and Harry can still have a serious career. Lou's real fans won't leave. Harry may not have the kind of blow-out success that the Azoffs expect, but hopefully they won't be a part of his future. Harry can still make music and fans will still show up. Maybe not selling out MSG for 30 nights but he'll still have a career 20 years from now - if he wants it. He'll lose a lot of his fickle fans when he does come out. I don't think Louis will. He's too beloved by his base.

I know this is long and maybe not interesting. I just want to scream "Shut up" when people say "Just come out". Thanks and I love your blog.

I think queer people who didn’t live through the way things used to be not even twenty years ago just have no idea how dangerous and scary it can be to “just come out.”

And that’s not even accounting fire the years of closeting trauma Harry and Louis have dealt with.

I get allyship, I am a straight woman with a lot of ties to the queer community, however, there is a huge difference between supporting a community and shouting through queer coding for people to acknowledge your place in that community. The majority of bands and artists he chooses to work with and spotlight are queer bands or at the very least have queer members and most of them touch on queer topics in their music. What we see from Louis is someone with a deep connection to queer and gay causes, to the point that it doesn’t match what is explainable by him simply being an ally.

I try to keep an open mind and do my due diligence to see if other people are just seeing something I am not, but I don’t see anything as of now that makes me think for a second he is interested in women.

The shift in fandom that happened during covid coincided with Louis having to become father of the year. It’s been a losing battle against the “het louies” ever since. It’s insane to me. So much so that I didn’t even have a tag for the discussion of Louis’ sexuality until a few years ago.

I don’t understand anyone thinking he’s straight.

if in fact after this tour he is possibly maybe allowed to come out to some sort of extent, he probably knows that some of the fans might leave etc. so this very-commercially-successful-yet-closeted version of Harry Styles™️ might be the biggest he as an artist is ever gonna get bc he knows that him being more out in the future is likely gonna shake things up in ways that he can’t fully predict, but might realistically make him less “commercially appealing” (🙄) and or have him limited by different mechanisms in the industry that’s gonna make it harder to experience that level of success (maybe ever) again.

so like yes gratitude but also an understanding that although it doesn’t mean he’s quitting or never touring again, next time it’s probably gonna look different…or not be the same…as it was.

I truly don’t think anyone should be allowed to speak about Harry’s album and songwriting without putting it in context with his sexuality and closeting.

You can definitely not like the sound or not vibe with the album. I can respect that. But saying his songwriting is “regressive” and that he has nothing “remotely introspective” or “relatable” to say, just tells me you didn’t understand it. At all.

Is that Harry’s fault? I don’t know, maybe some people really need everything spelled out for them. But claiming he’s got nothing to say when he’s given us an album full of songs about closeting, having to perform heterosexuality through his romantic relationships, his experience of trying to grow and mature while the people around you want you to stay the same, communication struggles with his partner, his feelings about sharing his art with the world, coming to terms with his anxiety and learning how to let life in… I mean? You’re telling me you can’t find anything to relate to there?
