𝗯𝗲𝗻  𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱  𝗵𝗶𝘀  𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀  into  his  pockets  after  closing  the  door  behind  him  ,  leaning  against  the  wall  of  their  living  room.  nothing  really  had  changed.  everything  screamed  rey.  the  fact  that  the  apartment  said  nothing  and  everything  all  at  once.  ❛     disgusting  ?  i  recall  you  liking  this  face  a  lot.  especially  up  close.    ❜  he  watched  them  ,  adorably  bundled  up  and  so  close  to  the  tv.  ❛    you’re  gonna  mess  up  your  eyes  like  that.  i  told  you  to  not  sit  so  close  when  you  watch.  are  you  just  gonna  ignore  everything  i  tried  to  teach  you  when  we  together  because  you  ’  hate  me  ’  now  ?    ❜   his  fingers  came  in  air  quotes  ,  sarcasm  rolling  from  his  tongue  as  he  spoke  with  his  eyes  unable  to  leave  them.  like  he  could  ever.

𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗺  .  he only brought negative emotions with him when they saw each other  .  “  mhmm  .  what do you want  ?  “  she stands up from her spot on the carpet and moves to get rid of her now empty bowl  .  “  clearly you’ve disregarded all manners i taught you when we were together  ,  so  ...  “  she shrugs  .  her bark was just as bad as her bite and ben solo fueled both  .  he brought back a weirdly familiar feeling that didn’t stir inside her the last time she saw him  .  a deeper connection than two bodies  .  she brushes it off like she’s been brushing off all the memories  .  “  what are you doing here  ,  ben  ?  “

                 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲  𝘄𝗮𝘀  𝗮  𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁  of  quinn’s  heart  that  beat  a  little  faster  when  they  called  him  dad.  even  if  it  was  a  joke  ,  something  to  tease  him  with.  this  was  what  quinn  wanted  in  life.  maybe  not  any  kid  ,  but  rey  as  his  daughter.  as  if  in  another  life  –  they  were.  if  only  ,  if  only.  ❛    i’m  the  only  one  that  does  ,  remember  that  kid  whenever  a  new  boy  or  girl  comes  in  and  takes  your  attention  again.  you  can’t  leave  dad  all  alone  with  his  thoughts.    ❜  the  coffee  was  warm  as  he  took  another  sip  ,  his  lips  curling  into  a  smile  while  doing  so.  ❛    do  you  want  to  go  for  a  surf  ?  my  board  is  already  ready  to  go  and  i  still  have  the  one  you  used  to  use.    ❜

𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 rey had to a father  .  her parents hadn’t been good role models and were never people that she’d call mom  &  dad  .  quinn was what rey wanted in a dad and that’s exactly what he was to her  .  sure  ,  she’d joke and call him  ‘  dad  ‘  -  but it was true . he was her father except in blood  .  “  mhmm  .  i’d never leave you  ...  dad  .  who else are you going to make breakfast  ,  lunch  &  dinner for  ?  huh  ?  “  she couldn’t imagine leaving someone in the same way her parents did  .  in the blink of an eye  .  no notice  .  she’d never leave someone behind and especially not quinn  .  eyebrows raise as she finished her sandwhich  .  “  you still have it  ?  “  a smile begins at the corner of her lips  .  “  how’re the waves looking like for today  ?  “

“hm ? yeah. i could see that.” despite the weather, he was dressed all in black but, a stroll on the beach still sounded good to him. sat on the bench with a large dog next to him, leash in hand, he glanced over at them. “should we get you something for your head, first ? i could grab you a water.” he assumed it was DEHYDRATION, not the horrifying nightmares that he, as well, was plagued with. 

rey smiled brightly  .  they loved animals  (  she even co  -  parented a dog with one of her best friends  )  ,  so seeing such a beautiful  &  large dog brought a lot of joy to her heart  ,  which she so desperately needed  .  “  oh  ?  i don’t think i’m dehydrated  ...  just tired  ,  maybe  .  “  she shrugs her shoulders  .  she’s never been good at taking care of herself  .  others  ?  yes  .  but never herself  .

he kept a snarky ‘ HAVE YOU EATEN ANY SAND YET ‘ to himself. no reason to incite any unpleasantness at a party. especially not with rey who he adored, enough so that he found it difficult not to just say it. “i’m always having fun. the key, kiddo, is to just keep your expectations really, really low. that way you’re never disappointed.” he informed them. but, he didn’t want to talk about himself. he never usually did. “you doing okay ?”
