the authors don't humanize the cats as much as a lot of the readers do, hence why they put things that are questionable in without thought, there's a huge difference between the way they view the characters and the way fans do, and i can tell you precious little analysis goes in

wild cats don't think about age gaps and that's reality, but the erins don't seem to realize that their fans don't think like that and attach far more humanized personas to the characters... so from some perspectives it seems more problematic when it's "just a cat" to others

i realize there's not much to be done about this but i honestly have to say that it's wise to not attach your perceptions to a book series that doesn't comply, the erins don't seem to agree that the cats are anything but animals, and i truly don't think that's going to change
