u gotta get less misanthropic I'm not kidding
especially now with all the bullshit going on in Kansas, in Texas, in Iran, with Israel and Palestine, this ICE shit, this Epstein shit, it is essential to remember that evil and violence is not the natural state of humanity. this is not what humanity is like. if it was, there would be no reason to be disgusted or fight against it. most people are good and decent, and are victims of this, and by reducing it to a "carte blanche humanity is fucked anyway" you are casting aside the good, decent, loving people with rich inner lives who these cowardly fucks think are disposable
The vast majority of people are cooperative and prosocial by nature. None of this shit -gestures at every complex thing humans have built- would exist if we weren't hardwired with miraculous levels of cooperation mechanisms. The atrocities OP mentioned are BY FAR the exception, not the rule. It's a few ruthless assholes behaving unconscionably and being unfortunately rewarded for it because ruthless assholery is effective at gathering power. But they are NOT normal, and they do NOT represent us. The vast, vast majority of humanity is your family.

I'm developing a species of dragon derived from amphibians. Working out which taxon to model them after with some development questions.
As "tadpoles," should these dragons have front limbs or back limbs develop first?
Front limbs (like salamanders)
Back limbs (like frogs)

Webkinz family concept
To Do
🔲 Develop the lichen species (family probably) that facilitates hyperlichenization. Their operative superpower is being able/inclined to bring 2 organisms (1 plant 1 animal) in same-body proximity. Deepen that.
🔲 Said power also spawns the concept of animal-animal and plant-plant combos (the latter could get WILD because of how amenable plants already are to semi-fusing). Perhaps this is where griffons come from?
Premise: After generations of being hunted by adventurers, creatures of all types have developed detection, resistance, and anti-adventurer behaviors. They've also gotten stronger -- the "superbugs" of the species were the only ones who could survive adventurer farming.
Monsters have also become more animal-like by mundane selection. Their abilities are less extreme on paper, but the acquisition of survival-and-reproduction instincts more than compensate, at scale.
Finally, a variety of new creatures have shown up. These ones are optimized for cities and materials common to them. Shiny, robotic macrobugs and land-adapted volcano snails roam the walls of buildings while once-alley-pests eat decades-old plastic. Megapangolins with cemented armor hibernate in the streets. And rust monsters munch happily on any non-organicized metal they can find. Silver kudzu curls around every concrete tree.
Now, the sheer number of fauna adapted to humanoids have made it nearly impossible for those humanoids to exist. We must continuously rebuff nature's advance and scrape out our own homes, our own niches. We can't use classical weapons to do it, lest we activate non-Newtonian aggression. We have to be soft, vigilant, wily, symbiotic. We thought we escaped ecology and rose above it; instead, we pushed life to innovate more and bring us back to our rightful place in the middle. Now, we live with the consequences of what we had thought our greatness. It's a blessing -- our second chance to evolve a better understanding of what greatness truly is.
Sol paulo: the healing cat
While most cats' purring can restore 1d4 hit points during a short rest, there is one type of cat bred specifically to maximize this latent healing ability. The prized Sao paulo cat can restore 1 hit point per minute of undisturbed purring, to itself or any being in contact with all four paws. This makes them invaluable in any setting where someone is near death.
Paulo soles are highly distinctive in color. They tend toward a bright golden hue, much like their wild ancestors, but lacking tabby stripes. This solid warm color is a feature known only to this breed, and it lends it its name -- sol paulo is Latin for "little sun." Like a sun, or a hearth, paulo soles softly glow as they purr. And among the lucky beings to have touched a paulo sol, many swear the cats to be quite a bit warmer than average. Little sun, indeed.
These cats are highly prized and sought after in a variety of fields. They're also quite tricky to breed and to keep; they are very independent, retaining a significant level of wildness. Attempts have been made to make a more domesticated hearth cat, but none have been as effective at healing. It seems their wildness and intelligence are key components in paulo soles' restorative abilities. (Is this a potential commonality with unicorns?)
This wildness may turn out to be a blessing, long term. For, if only a free one can heal, you must respect and befriend them to gain their benefit. Their talents can be distributed as they see fit, and hopefully, controllers will have a hard time monopolizing health.
House number magic
- Drawing on numerological properties and cultural connotations to create a particular house "mission" and vibe
- Even and odd numbers reflecting in the symmetry and geometry of the houses
- Address numbers factoring into people's decisions for house buying
- Imbuing each of your physical number plates with a different charm for protection, prosperity, or warmth
- The artistic style of those plates having an influence on the house and inhabitants
- House structures gradually shifting to better harmonize with the numbers; occasionally, its will is stronger and overrides a number. Your address subsequently changes
- Finding your house number in the wild and being struck with a strong homesickness. In cases powerful or specific enough, the essence of home even extends into the space around that number instance
- The logical conclusion of this is that every home sharing a particular address number becomes a shared web of space with that number's character, holding hands in perpetual conversation with each other

At heart, it's a hearth. Warmth tendrils out into every universe that permits it in and it sniffs out beings lacking, needing. It finds those who require a step to their next scene but have none. There, it builds a door.
The body surrounding the hearth takes on any forms that provide best-needed comfort. It may be a restaurant, a library, a root web of dark spaces where one can just be. The material is always there; space and matter shift into focus according to visitors' needs.
There is no commerce in the Commonplace. Resources are provided as need asks, and the endosteward distributes them freely. Patrons may stay as long as they need, until one itch or another pulls them back into their world (or, occasionally, a new one). The endosteward requires no payment -- only that the visitors remember this place, and the service that was done to them here.
The Commonplace is an impossibility emergent of all-possibles. You sense the strange magic of the place as you step in, but if you try to pinpoint any single object or movement incongruent with physics, you'll find none. Only a remarkable series of unlikely but plausible moments, all stacked together.
