Let's practice creating your own correspondences for your craft. Look at the shell in my hand. Hone in on the energy you feel from it. What does it say to you? Does it remind you of a planetary energy? A god or goddess? And element? An emotion? A tarot card or rune? Or something else?

If someone says your magic should have results, as it’s a skill you should be striving to develop and improve, they’re told they’re victim blaming people for not magicking all their problems away.

If someone points out that having a love for aesthetics is perfectly fine but that without a proper practice attached you’re just collecting pretty knickknacks, they’re accused of trying to judge the validity of others or claiming that you need to “earn” the right to have nice things with a “serious” practice.

I know that we need to be critical of what’s read online, and that people often have a chance to try and explain their point better if they notice criticism in their notifications, but I struggle to understand why the default approach is so uncharitable and defensive. Are there so called elitists and gatekeepers in magical communities? Yes. Are some people overly critical of the practices of others when they should likely just keep scrolling? Definitely. However, I think some people are going into every post looking for a fight instead of considering that some people are genuinely trying to give advice or discuss issues that are important to them… or even sometimes things they’ve struggled with and had to grow out of as practitioners. Tone can be hard with text alone. Some people are better or worse communicators, and some of them are writing for a specific audience that you’ve stumbled into the middle of. Asking for clarification, their intentions, more context, and et cetera instead of immediately leaping to an angry rebuttal would likely lead to a lot more beneficial discussions rather than people debating against what they think the other person might mean.
