on this blog, i aim to phenotype [identify the visual genetics] of any warriors oc right here on tumblr!
this blog is heavily inspired by identifying-cat-phenotypes, so if you like what i do, give em a follow!
i do this in my free time as a fun hobby, so if i take a while to get to some asks, i may be busy or simply not feel like doing genetics at the time
i will also do hypokits between two ocs! show me the cats, and i'll phenotype them, then provide some potential kit designs for them! please tell me which cat would be the dam [mother] and the sire [father], or i can't properly figure out which genes go where
NOTE THAT I WILL MAKE MISTAKES SOMETIMES! i am simply a fan of cat biology, not a proper student or researcher or what have you! i'm here for a good time, not a completely scientifically accurate time
also note that THESE ARE MY OPINIONS! you do not have to follow my assigned phenotype to a T at any point, this is just for fun!
Mod info

tidestar is a longhair chocolate mackerel tabby with high white!
maybe with some rufousing to enrich the color? who knows, we haven't figured out entirely how those polygenes work, but aside from that a very simple phenotype <3
hi everyonee back at it again with phenotyping my own ocs! this time i've got a couple parents and their kid, which lets me get into the nitty gritty of how i make my ocs genetically accurate heheh
in order these are hazelstar, jinglehop, and bells!
hazelstar is a shorthair cinnamon classic tabby with high white!
her being cinnamon is a bit iffy, the stripes are a little dark for cinnamon, but i don't car π
jinglehop is a shorthair cinnamon spotted tabby with low white!
his stripes are a... bit hard to see, but this was the intent. the spotted tabby gene is a modifier to mackerel, and results in a sort of gradient from full stripes to full spots!
bells is a shorthair fawn/cream classic tabby tortioiseshell with low white!
fawn is the dilute of cinnamon, making bells a dilute tortie! i still classify her as shorthair despite looking kind of longhair since that was my intention, i just tend to draw cats pretty fluffy
now... below the cut, i will discuss how i reverse-engineered hazelstar to make her parents as genetically accurate as possible!
first off, all cats are shorthair, so we can ignore that gene, assuming nobody carries longhair.
for color, i was sort of forced into making jingle and bells both cinnamon-- black-base colors are on sort of a dominance scale, which is hard to explain? but in essence, black is dominant to all, chocolate is dominant to cinnamon, and cinnamon is recessive to all.
[BB -> bb -> blbl; B is black, b is choco, bl is cinnamon]
so, if either of them were black or chocolate, hazel would be too. full red is out of the question for bells, since that would make hazel a tortie!
so, jingle got just regular cinnamon, and bells got to be a tortie to make things a little more visually interesting. being fawn/cream, she could pass either red or cinnamon onto hazelstar, and just happened to pass cinnamon.
the tabby patterns are where it got interesting for me: i didn't want everyone to be classic, but classic is recessive to mackerel, so both parents had to at the least carry classic. my decision was to make one parent [bells] present classic, while the other [jingle] carried it, but i got a teensy bit carried away while drawing jingle, and he ended up spotted, which... makes the genes pretty interesting!
you see, spotted tabby [Sp] is a modifier as stated above, but it only works on mackerel. the classic tabby gene doesn't have the right proteins to present it. this makes the problem of spotted being dominant to non-spotted kind of a non-issue, but means that hazelstar is a spotted tabby under her classic. which i don't mind, that's fun!
[jinglehop is SpSp, fully spotted. bells can be anything, but i'm calling her spsp, non-spotted. hazelstar thus ends up as Spsp, spotted and carrying non-spotted!]
white spotting is also pretty curious with these guys. the parents are both low white, but their kit is high white! how is this possible?
well, the white gene works in interesting ways; low white is coded as Wsw [white + non-white, i believe], but if you combine two dominant white genes, you get high white [WsWs]! so, jingle and bells simply both passed their Ws genes and had a half-white kitten.
[ww is full non-white, if you were wondering]
now, if anyone was interested in the letter vomit that is their resulting genetic strings [unimportant genes excluded] here ya go:
hazelstar: XoXoLLblblDdmcmcSpspWsWs
jinglehop: XoYLLblblDDMcmcSpSpWsw
bells: XOXoLLblblddmcmcspspWsw
reminder that these are completely amateur and likely inaccurate ^^ i'm just havin fun
Just know that you absolutely don't have to do all of them if you don't want to ! Feel free to only do the interesting ones
Sorry if headshots aren't enough to diagnose some of them, fullbodies are tiring to draw lol (I hope the differences between shorthair and longhair are noticeable enough)
Couple notes:
-the amount of white I put on their faces is around equal to the amount of white on their whole bodies, eg roseclaw & roachspring have high white, sandstone & pochardpaw have medium-ish white, etc. If there's white specifically not on the face I noted it below
-cause you already did roachspring you don't have to do him again lol
-pearlpaw has a white tail tip
-darkshine and spiderstream have vitiligo, i don't know if that would allow them to have natural blue eyes
-kestrelkit has a white leg
-stormfrost has no white, they have one of the weird blue eyes genes
-flameleap is a trans guy
Also.. could I maybe see hypokits of stormfrost (mom) and flameleap (dad, pretending that he's amab and could have kits)?
oh wowie!! a real challenge... rubbin my hands together like a fly
pearlpaw is a shorthair cinnamon self minkpoint with low white!
was quite tied between mink and sepiapoint for her, but in the end, the color restriction is still pretty significantly lighter than the base
glacierclan under the cut!
thistlestar is a longhair blue ticked tabby and a longhair caramel self, as well as a chimera!
caramel was the ONLY fitting color i could find for thistlestar's tortie patches, so chimerism it is for her! i also call her blue parts ticked just for the darker little marks on her face. i'd have called every other cat with them ticked, but then we'd just have a weird amount of ticked tabbies in this one clan, and on the torts it doesn't show on their red, so i'm not counting it
stonetail is a shorthair blue self minkpoint!
sunheart is a shorthair apricot self!
i choose apricot over cream due to it appearing more orangey than cream usually does, but certainly not red by my standards. apricot is about as close to gold as i think we're gonna get!
nettleleaf is a longhair chocolate unknown tabby with low white!
i can't tell for the life of me what kind of tabby these cats are without body marks, so they get a brand new label from me
stormfrost is a longhair blue self smoke!
cats with darker spots like stormfrost are so incredibly difficult to gene.... cats just don't really look like that irl, so coming up with an excuse is hard to say the least ^^" but smoke is what i've got for them specifically
owlbriar is a shorthair lilac self!
yellowbriar is a longhair fawn self!
sleetstripe is a longhair chocolate self with low white!
i think the head stripe is white spotting anyway?
flameleap is a longhair black/red self tortoiseshell with low white!
ravenfang is a shorthair black self with low white!
roseclaw is a longhair black/red self tortoiseshell with high white!
spiderstream is a shorthair black self with vitiligo!
i'm frankly unsure if vitiligo in cats can cause blue eyes [or at the least harbor them], but i'd wager likely so? it is just the cat losing pigment over time, and blue eyes are generally tied to fur/skin pigment to my knowledge
redpaw is a longhair chocolate/red self tortoiseshell!
pochardpaw is a shorthair cinnamon self with low white!
hornetpaw is a longhair chocolate unknown tabby!
...yeah, strange diagnosis for the really red cat, but hear me out okay. i judge color based on the stripes. hornet's stripes? pretty damn brown. so, i call him a high-rufoused chocolate tabby
laburnumpaw is a shorthair red unknown tabby with high white!
this one's mackerel to me, but again, can't see their bodies
nightstorm is a shorthair black self!
cherrykit is a shorthair black/red self tortoiseshell!
kestrelkit is a shorthair black self with low white!
sagefoot is a longhair blue unknown tabby with high white!
mothkit is a shorthair blue self!
darkshine is a longhair black self with vitiligo!
sandstone is a longhair cinnamon spotted tabby with low white!
i will disclose here btw, my diagnosis of chocolate/cinnamon tabbies is not 100% accurate, given irl they have VERY light backgrounds. however, this is warrior cats, and i kind of don't care /silly
FORGOT TO ADD TO THE POST. i can do hypokits a little later! i'll ping ya in that, look out for it ^^

I have four kitties for you! They Are all siblings
Fennelear, Oldest and only survivor from the first litterβ
Oddpaw, Janus Cat(I know a Janus probably wouldn't survive in the wild but it's warrior cats), oldest of the the litterβ
Emberpawβ
Foxpaw(the brown/dark orange next to Oddpaw and far from emberpaw.. I don't have a ref sheet for him-)β
OHOHO.... MANY KITTIES! what a gracious offering on this fine day!!
fennelear is a shorthair red ticked tabby with low white!
love me a good simple cat every now and again
oddpaw is a longhair red ticked tabby with low white and a shorthair cream self with low white, as well as a chimera!
congrats oddpaw, you are the most special cat in all the clans... chimera janus cat...
the stripes on their longhair half are a liiiittle inaccurate to a real red ticked, but i opt for that due to red being a simpler color to assign this, and the lack of leg stripes ^^
emberpaw is a shorthair red self with high white!
i opt for self on emberpaw due to the lack of obvious stripes mainly. there is some undercolor and darker colors on them, but i'm happy to attribute this to red just being kind of weird as a self color
foxpaw is a shorthair chocolate mackerel tabby minkpoint with karpati!
admittedly, his stripes are very hard to properly see, but i'm assigning him mackerel for simplicity. also big ol white face gives him a big ol karpati gene!
as for whether or not they could all realistically be siblings? idk maybe
Designed him when i was like. 12.. just do your best π
oh wow, i do love his design though!!
roachspring is a shorthair blue and cream self tortoiseshell with high white and a shorthair caramel self with high white, as well as a chimera!
wough, lots going on with roach! a four-colored cat! chimerism is the easiest explanation i personally have for this ^^
i chose to pair the blue and cream as a tort solely because of this new color here- caramel! i've never assigned a cat caramel before, but since the brown on this guy didn't look particularly lilac or fawn, i went with the next best thing. caramel is essentially any dilute black-base color with the dilute modifier gene, but i imagine roachspring has lilac-based caramel personally!
the cream isn't able to be paired with this caramel though, lest i turn it into apricot... and apricot just doesn't fit this color!
also have i genuinely never had a blue/cream on this blog?? i don't have a tag for it? what?? i love dilute torts... send me more dilute torts guys...
Hi I'm back with some cats! I've had them a while and I believe their names are Void (because of a prophecy) Sunheart and Gemclaws respectively!
SUPER COOL KITTIES!! love all their designs wowie!!
void is a shorthair red self with karpati!
this is a VERY interesting phenotype. you see, 'reverse point' isn't really a thing in cats- unless you're talking about karpati, which is a rare dominant gene that causes some hairs to be white, especially around the 'points'. this seems to be the best explanation for void's coloring to me!
sunheart is a longhair red mackerel tabby colorpoint!
opting to ignore the heart on their chest for simplicity
gemclaws is a longhair blue self with high white!
i opt for high white blue due to the gray patches- easily explainable as just a lot of white covering!
this is redpaw!! she's a longhair chocolate ticked tabby with low white!
very silly to me she's a chocolate cat named redpaw
this is cherrywood! they're a longhair cinnamon spotted tabby with low white! she also has polymelia, which is a mutation where the animal grows extra limbs in the womb, typically fatal due to other health complications.
she is also a pixie-bob! i don't do breeds on this blog, but i thought that would be fun to share :]
lastly, gullbite! he's a shorthair albino!
there's no other way i can phenotype him, since his albinism covers whatever could potentially be under the lack of pigment.
fun fact: albino cats don't have red eyes-- they have blue eyes! for whatever reason [i have my theories, but haven't confirmed them] blue eyes are what happen when they lack pigment; it's the same in humans. their pupils appear red, however, due to the blood vessels in the eye!
i'll also now be making tags for mutations as i come across them :3
chimerism and klinefelter syndrome get their own designated tags in the tag navigation, but ones like those i've mentioned here get tags like usual coat colors n the like!

I just made this morph and I wanna see what cat breed she would be
ooh pretty! i don't know breeds, but!
she is a shorthair chocolate/red self tortoiseshell with low white!
i elect to call her a chocolate tortie instead of black because of the brownish undertones visible in the second image-- im assuming the black look is due to lighting
clovercall is a longhair cinnamon ticked tabby colorpoint!
i opt for ticked tabby because of the stripes only being on the pointed parts rather than looking covered by the color restriction!
hallo !! These are my ocs akria (white and black girly with leg stockings) howlingwinds (black tom with vitiligo) and their son winterfeather! (Grey tom with blue eyes)
im curious to see how winterfeather would genetically look !!
hi hello!!! ough the creatures...
akira is a shorthair black self with high white!
howlingwinds is a longhair black self with high white!
winterfeather is a shorthair blue ticked tabby with low white!
i'm considering winterfeather a ticked tabby due to the stripes on his face and legs! i also would've called him high white, but his legs have visible stripes, so i do not classify them as white.
howling's vitiligo is just something i'm opting to call high white for simplicity ^^
with these genetics, winter being their son is interesting mostly due to the white levels and stripes. you see, the way white works, both his parents are WsWs [high white], whereas he's Wsw [low white], and he's agouti [AA or Aa] while his parents are selfs [aa]! the recessive genes don't exactly work out, but they're warriors ocs who cares lol
Hi mod!! I hope you're having a good day!! I finally worked up the courage to send you some of my cats
Their name is weatherfur and flamingfur! I heavily stylise cats so I'm very curious as to how you would interpret them since I'm no genetic expert
oh they're both SUPER pretty!!! i love how you draw cats!!
weatherfur is a longhair blue ticked tabby with low white!
literally blue this time! i give them ticked tabby due to their darker markings only seeming to be on their tail, neck, ears, and legs, which is pretty standard ticked tabby ^^
flamingfur is a longhair red classic tabby colorpoint with low white!
i can't exactly see their colors very well, but i'm going to call the darker color on their tail just part of their point! i also give them low white due to there being no point color on their face :]
i also give them classic mostly due to their stripes being much thicker than a mackerel tabby's
fun fact: flamingfur is my first purely red cat on this blog! the rest of the cats i've assigned red have been torties.

since you said you wanted to do hypokits.... have waxstone and slugheart [i thinkkkk waxstone would be the father and slugheart would be the mother. if they werent yk gay/j /j] anyways do with that what you will... sniles so sneetly
wow these cats gay! good for them good for them!! hereβs some potential kittens :]
my diagnosis for the parents:
waxstone is a longhair cream classic tabby with low white!
slugheart is a shorthair blue self colorpoint!
the hypokits shown are just what i threw together, but hereβs my overview:
ALL toms will be blue and ALL mollies will be blue/cream tortie
ALL kits are dilute
tabby/self is split 50/50, all tabbies will be classic
colorpoint chance is about 50% [molly 2 shown here was meant to be colorpoint, but i forgot that when drawing her. oops!]
low white chance is also about 50%, otherwise they will have no white
i did throw some non-visible or carried genes in the mix just to make the kits more interesting ^^
