likeโฆ yโall, billy russo straight up killed frankโs kids. he kept his mother incapacitated in a nursing home and abused her solely because she put him up for adoption when he was born because she couldnโt care for him. he used dinah and killed stein and continued to have sex with her under false fucking pretenses because he wanted to control her. he called curtis a peg-legged bastard and tried to kill him as soon as he perceived curtis was slipping out from under his control.
heโs a horrible person. icb this is a hot take because of season 2 woobifying him and fandom readily going along with it because they love white men with ~Tragic stories. heโs well-written and acted but heโs a horrible person and a villain and he and frank may be mirrors of each other, but billy is still horrible and worse than frank.ย

Frank Castle is not under any delusions about himself. He doesnโt think his methods are better than those of say, Matt Murdock or Peter Parker. Nor does he do his work actually thinking he makes a difference for good; he doesnโt go home and pat himself on the back, or really think he can make a dent in crime. His mindset is a nihilistic one; he knows there is no end, he knows what he does is not right, but itโs the mission he has given himself โ and he is very good at it.
Many will criticize the Punisherโs concept, since they believe that weโre supposed to think the opposite: they believe this is a character that justifies brutality and murder as the right course of action; that his behavior is glorified. This is untrue.ย Here, he doesnโt tell Joan โbecause of my familyโ or anything dramatic about how these criminal monsters must be stopped. He doesnโt make excuses for himself. He doesnโt consider himself to be a good person, or a person who makes the world safe, because โ well, frankly, that would be a very messed up thing, and that would make the character incredibly shallow.
