i’m taking a few more days away from tumblr, both to spend time with friends offline and on, and to prioritise preparing for christmas and handling certain health issues and other “real life” matters i needn’t go into detail about here.
to clear the air regarding the dash events last week, though, i will say that i am sorry for thoughtlessly reblogging a callout which later turned out to contain some misinformation and wrongful / harmful conclusions. even though my involvement was limited to reblogging it because i was trying to protect a friend, i realise it was wrong of me. i also want to make it clear that no one told or asked me to engage with the post. that decision and mistake was entirely mine and something i fully own up to and will try to learn from going forward. i won’t be interacting with any future callouts.
if you’ve read my ooc posts in recent weeks, you might have seen that i already had plans to archive so i will go through with that after my little breather, maybe over the weekend or early next week. if you need to softblock or hardblock me, blacklist my url (which will be the same), or not follow me on the new blog in order to feel comfortable, please do so. i never have nor will fault or think less of anyone for doing that.
carol really does love the festive season, especially the pretty lights, the warmth it exudes, and the idea of spending quality time with your loved ones. however, for someone who craves human connection more than anything, she is also an incredibly lonely soul and that is never highlighted as clearly as it is during the holidays.
though she does have some fond memories of the christmases and thanksgivings of her childhood, her father's drinking habit and foul temper often ended up souring the family's celebrations at some point or another. she then walked out of her childhood home without looking back on the day of her 18th birthday and has been more or less estranged from her remaining family since, especially after her older brother steven died. when she was in the air force, this meant that she would volunteer to stay on base for the holidays because she didn't have anywhere else to go.
now that she has moved on to intelligence, she will either bury herself in work and celebrate any holidays alone in some hotel room on the other side of the world, or order pizza and marathon the star wars movies while cuddling with her cat back home in new york. it's not that she doesn't have friends who wouldn’t love to invite her to their holiday celebrations, but she hates feeling like a burden so she would rather pretend to already have plans than encroach on theirs.
