As much as you said people need to make their own choices about Ryan, you sure SOUND like you think we should all throw him away like trash. People make mistakes. You seriously have more grace for fucking tommy kinard than Ryan?
I'mma be real with you chief, that's probably because I do.
I've never hidden the fact that I'm a middle-aged woman with a big girl job and a mortgage who's been at this fandom stuff for thirty-odd years. I have no interest in devoting myself to shit that does not spark joy, 'stan' culture makes no sense to me, and as of now, Ryan Guzman is on the 'fuck these guys, actually' shelf with JK Rowling, Neil Gaiman, Kevin Sorbo, and a host of other celebrities/public figures whom I have enjoyed and admired over the years and who showed themselves to be trash human beings.
I need you to understand that the brand of rightwing nonsense that Ryan Guzman seems to be drinking in like he's been lost in the desert for days and just happened upon an oasis is a very large part of why *gestures to the state of the world in general and the US political system in particular*. It is why I, as a teacher in Ohio, am now legally obligated to IMMEDIATELY inform any student's parents if that child so much as hints that they might be queer or trans to me. Even if I know for a fact that the parents' response will be to beat the shit out of the child. Even if I know their fucking LIFE will be in danger if I say anything. That's the kind of ideals Ryan Guzman is espousing.
And here's the thing, since we (of course) have to bring Tommy Kinard into this. Firstly, Tommy's a fictional fucking character who can't hurt anyone and secondly--just as I've said before that Tommy resonates with me because I've known men like him in my life, I have ALSO known men like Ryan Guzman appears to be and I PROMISE you, what he's showing in public is likely way, WAY nicer than what he actually feels. The way people are rushing to defend him is terrifying actually, cause that's how red pill, right wing, sovereign fucking citizen bullshit SPREADS. That's how they suck you in.
Nah man, I'm not supporting that. 9-1-1, Buck, the joy the fandom has brought me, the friends I've made here--it's important to me and still brings me more happiness than stress, so I'm sticking with it. But Ryan? Unless and until he makes a big, BIG U-turn as far as his beliefs and actions, I'm done. I have no hard feelings for anyone who wants to unfollow/stop interacting with me over that.
