every time i think i’ve filtered every version of this tag, a new one pops up

i get that it's very tempting to decry jesse's parents as "horrible and abusive" but they are not, and this is a hill i am going to die on. they're definitely not great parents-- in the "average white, christian, suburban image-focused parents with gifted kids" way, but it's pretty clearly laid out that they did earnestly TRY to help jesse. they did and do love him! he is still their son! they never helped him in the way they should have (you can make a case for jesse having untreated / self-medicated adhd; i'd make a similar case for jimmy but that is besides the point), but they did what they could by their own understanding of what was happening. things are. immensely difficult with trying to help a loved one with substance-related issues, but it is objectively harder when they are your teenaged son. on the flipside: there is stigma! they fail to recognize him as a person! they fail to see him beyond the label of "once their bright son, now just an addict"! they aren't in the right for hiding the truth of who his aunt's house was actually titled to! they weren't in the right for how they treated him and ginny in general. they're also not doing a great job with jake-- he is being placed under an insane amount of pressure, no doubt similar to what jesse faced once, but. jesse recognizes he did hurt them. that he did manipulate them, steal from them, made no effort whatsoever, that they did their best. he was neverrr "apologizing to his abusers" in el camino. it's just a difficult situation with a less-than-perfect family, but it's hard to say "kicking out an adult son who you have tried to support and help before and still refuses to follow the ground rules you laid down because he HAS hurt you and hurt himself in the past-- one of them being rehab" is abuse.

Every once in a while, I wish the friendship meter from the Sims was real so that way when people tell me "I used Chat-GPT" they can visually see just how much respect I just lost for them in that moment.

One time an acquaintance told me she entered Snape's star chart into chatgpt and I could physically feel that meter dropping three separate times over the course of her sentence

And you know, for young writers, this has got to be so detrimental just from the perspective of opening your document and seeing a million corrections that, frankly, don't need to be there. If you're a young writer you're likely not going to have the background knowledge to know what is and isn't a good suggestion, you're just going to see a document that makes it look like you made every mistake possible so clearly you must be a terrible, stupid writer and should just give up.
