Fink’s observation about the boost in the digital currency market is quite spot on, as trade sanctions on Russia have already led many countries that import oil and gas from them to look for alternate payment networks beyond centralized SWIFT.

Investing vs Investing
The word “investing” is interesting because it can have different meanings.
For instance, we might say that an education is an investment in the future potential of the person being improved by the investment. In this case, the investment is what leads to the positive outcome. One might similarly invest in a start-up, a business which isn’t really on its own legs just yet but which it is hoped will become self-sufficient and offer valuable services or products to the public. Let’s call this “investing in development.”
Then there’s another kind of investing. For instance, like the stock market. When people buy stocks, this does not help or hurt the business. They sold their shares at some point in the past, and the purchase and selling of those stocks does not affect the company; it just determines who is entitled to equity in that company (i.e. profits). People buying Tesla stock or Apple stock are not “investing in development”. They are only investing in equity, in profits.
These two types of “investments” have very different effects on society. Investing in development can create new talent, new products, new ideas, and other things which improve society. Investing in equity basically just enriches the few who have that equity, and generally has the pronounced effect of increasing inequality and exploitation.
I want laws that promote investing in society, not equity for the 1%.
One interesting example is student loans. Student loans look like investing in development but actually functions as investing in equity. E.g. why are we charging interest in educational loans? (And why are we charging for education at all?)
I suppose this difference in meaning roughly aligns with the difference in non-profit and for-profit work, or socialism vs capitalism: Who is this meant to help? Society or the well-off? But both use the term “invest”, as well do, pretty much interchangeably.
