The Cotton Club was a speakeasy or a venue that offered alcohol and entertainment during prohibition during the 1920s and 30s.

The club became a legendary nightspot in the Harlem district of New York City. It featured prominent Black entertainers who performed for white audiences. The club served as the springboard to fame for Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and many others.

In 1920, it was originally opened under the name 'Club Deluxe' by Jack Johnson, the first Black heavyweight boxing champion.

Owney Madden, a white gangster, took it over in 1923, transformed it and renamed it the Cotton Club.
