Hello everyone! As I told you in my last masterpost (that got way more notes than I imagined omg thank you all), I was planning to make another one to let you know everything about Morocco. This is more of a culture-oriented masterpost than a language one though. I hope - throughout this post - to be able to summarize what being a Moroccan is all about, and to share it with you. So, mrehba bikoum! (=welcome to you!)

moroccan dialect (or darija)
it’s a variation of classical arabic, mingled with a little bit of french and spanish, due to the influence of the colonial era. as any other dialect, it is mostly taught orally, and has no particular grammar rules. but i found very helpful sites to get you more in touch with that :
speakmoroccan (an overall amazing website! and it has a youtube channel that can help you through pronounciation)
linguanaut (contains useful moroccan expressions, you can find another one here)
dalilusa (this is a very interesting course that found a way to teach the moroccan arabic grammar. you should already be familiar with classical arabic grammar though)
armchairarabist (contains a list of syntax and conversational videos listed by level)
friendsofmorocco (it’s a list of lessons listed by domain, that pretty much gathers all the vocabulary you need in moroccan arabic)
mylanguages (a various list of lessons to get you started in darija)
and i thought i’d also put this video, that teaches you how to greet people in darija.
oh and this is a darija dictionary, might be helpful, right?
it is very rare to find books written in darija. but i found books that can teach you the language, like shnoo the hell is going on hnaa? by aaron sakulich
apprendre le marocain (the title is in french, but the app is in english so don’t worry! teaches you basic elements of darija, but it’s not a free app)

aflamedia (these are only darija movies, no subs!)

tarik lakziz (i’ll be honest with you, i haven’t watched much of these two youtubers, but overall they seem to make good quality videos, only in darija/french)
black mossiba (he’s amazing really, i love how diverse his videos are. a real personal favorite!)
amine boumazzough (he’s a funny guy. he makes his videos in english and teaches you darija along the way, so yeah i highly recommend you to check him out!)
yassine jarram (he was the first moroccan youtuber i came accross, it was like 3-4 years ago? anyway, his videos are awesome. but hey, he only does them in darija/french. plus, he’s cute)
cravata (those are a bunch of guys who mainly make parody videos, they are hilarious!)
barbapappa (these guys also make parody videos of very famous songs)
