Since Canada is currently trying to sell itself as an "ethical alternative" to Iran's oil, I would just like to remind folks / share some quick information:
More than 50% of Indigenous communities in reserve areas in Canada are at high risk of pipeline spills. When there is a spill, reserves are disproportionately impacted.
The National Energy Board and Supreme Court of Canada has a history of declaring the "public interest and economic interests outweigh Indigenous and treaty rights." Basically, Indigenous peoples don't count enough as "public" to matter.
Pipelines are built without proper consent from the Indigenous Nations they choose to occupy. Keep in mind I say choose, because this is the case even when alternative pipeline routes are suggested that could avoid reserve land. This is a direct, constant, and often violent threat to Indigenous sovereignty.
The MMIW crisis is funded by the oil industry through the creation of worker's "man camps" near reserve land. These "man camps" are nothing but pits of sexual violence and human trafficking of Indigenous women and girls. I am not exaggerating; this is well studied and well documented.

Tag! You're It! - My 2nd year film :D
Such a cool concept and very well executed! But Oh God, Reg Dress Girl's hands when they're in the cave.. qwq
White Fear has always been funny (ironic) to me. It's like, imagine a white person walking in the room, perpetually paranoid of everyone of Color around them, of being The Murderer because "look how strange they're all acting around me, they must be suspicious. And yet, THEY'RE the one covered in blood and holding the knife, the body count number floating over their head.
Like, Buddy, yeah we're acting weird, YOU'RE the one that WE gotta be worried about 😭. I'm scared of YOU.
To use a US specific example, it's like how there's so much fearmongering of being victims of Black and Latino men with guns and gun violence, a violence that white people usually don't even experience because they're not even in the same spaces.
But the demographic most likely to be a domestic terrorist, the mass shooters, the ones that find diverse places and murder people... Are white men. When I go to the store, to church, to work, to the movies, to school, the odds that the person who will walk in and decide to Let Fly is a white man! That's something we have to keep in our minds every day!
But somehow this has not made everyone that "matters" (I.e., other white people) deathly afraid of white men, despite actually, statistically fitting the mold, in comparison to the heightened stereotype of Black and Latino men being gun wielding thugs. Goes to show the power and projection of white supremacy.
On principle, if I am in a space and I see a white man with a backpack, I go to another space.
The thing is i feel like the majority of white ppl know that theyre the murderer. They know theyve got blood on their hands, either from their own actions or from the actions of other white ppl that they condoned. Theyre apathetic to violence committed against other races so they assume everyone else feels the same way which is why the project so much. The fear justifies the violence which justifies the fear which justifies the violence and so on so forth.
When white ppl go out in public theyre not looking for the person who's poses the most danger to them, they're looking for a person who they can endanger with little to no consequences. Im thinking of all those "karen" videos where a white person is approaching, following, or even explicitly chasing a black person while on the phone with the police making up some story abt how theyre being attacked by a big scary black person. So that when the police get there they see a anxious and/or aggravated black person who they can victim blame for any violence that follows.
White ppl in these situations know that they are not in any physical danger. Which is why they feel so comfortable getting in Black ppls faces, knocking on car windows, or even physically harassing ppl. I've been hear a lot of ppl encourage Black women especially to arm themselves bcuz of the current political climate. But on top of the fact that owning a gun poses a danger to you more than anyone else, white ppl who want to see you be hurt know that the US Justice system is baised in their favor. They know that a Black person is running the risk of being killed or imprisoned simply for having gun (or even just a white person thinking they have a gun). Im still thinking about Rihanna Kelver who had literally been knocked to the ground and was on her back with 3 men standing over her when she pulled out her gun. She didn't even fire it, in fact none of her assailants even pressed charges and she's still facing up to 15 years for simply taking it out of her purse. Even though Wyoming, where this happened, is a stand your ground and open carry state but ofc that means nothing when your Black. Ive just been hearing a lot of ppl talk like a gun guarantees your safety when it actually just gives you a new set of problems.
White American dont "love" an underdog, they love to be the underdog or at least to be seen as one. Which is why they can believe theyre the supreme master race while still constantly positioning themselves as the victim.
I'm at the point where I refuse to believe that white ppl are unaware of the threat they pose or that theyre genuinely "scared" of Black ppl. Their ignorance and obliviousness is strategic if not completely fabricated.
The fear is just the set up. Its the premise for the violence about to be committed.

how it feels to message a friend who's having Problems that you can't do anything to help with.
#i appreciate how genuine and non-judgemental this comic feels #like left one is not upset at right one for caring while being powerless #and right one seems genuinely distraught and not performative
I'm glad the facial expressions are coming across accurately! It can feel so absurd to say gosh I hope the torment maze removes some fire and rusty nails soon, but alas, sometimes that's all one can do.
One of my favorite tricks for designing alien species/cultures is to take a real animal with an interesting lifecycle and think about what that biology would translate to if they had human intelligence
Example: silk moths as a base species
Because the moths themselves don’t eat and only live long enough to mate and then starve to death, the entire culture is made up of children and adolescents. The older children raise the younger ones, with families being made up of hatchmates from different years.
Because molts and eventual transformation into a short lived adult happen on a set schedule, families have a cycle— when your oldest set of siblings cocoon to become adults, you wait at the mating grounds and try to adopt their newborns after they pass. If that fails, you take any ‘orphans’ you can find.
Because death and birth are nearly simultaneous, they have a religion based around reincarnation, and infants with markings similar to a parent are often given their name. Claiming the offspring of a beloved family member is vitally important, because you want to be able to protect their soul and keep them close.
Because it’s hard to track the offspring of your male family members, there are sometimes major fights when a family sees an infant with familiar markings in another family’s clutch.
Between mating seasons, their culture is extremely food-oriented, because everyone is growing and silkworms eat nigh constantly. They spend most of their lives outdoors but sleep and shelter from bad weather in large family dwellings made from wood and the remains of the silk cocoons of prior generations.
everyone is really vibing with the silkworm aliens I see
Check out Adrien Tchaikovsky's Children of Time series. We have intelligent aliens evolved from Earth jumping spiders, computers made of ants, and aliens evolved from Earth octopuses/octopi/octopodes
Spoilers ahead, but more on the spacefaring octopi since they are so alien and interesting.
They don't just have a brain, but are composed of three separate intelligences; the crown, the reach, and the guise.
The crown is the emotional, conscious mind. It has no concept of how to achieve tasks or make change on the world, but it feels and wants.
The reach is literally the tentacles of the octopus, which contain neurons. Their arms themselves perform all the math and enact change on the world to the best of their ability, directed by the crown. The crown has no knowledge of what the reach is thinking. The crown has emotions and desires, and their arms just do their best to solve equations and puzzles and hunt to fulfill those desires.
The guise is the camouflage skin of the octopus, which unconsciously expresses the emotions and desires of the crown. All communication happens guise to guise, pure emotion, while their reaches communicate in other ways, pure logistics.
I'm barely scratching the surface here. Tchaikovsky is so good at imagining aliens that are so alien that it isn't readily apparent if they are even conscious.
“we live in an uncaring universe” yeah dude and I live in an uncaring house. and I shit in an uncaring toilet. but do you touch an uncaring lover? do you comfort an uncaring child? do you guide to sleep each night a cold and uncaring self?

Sorry for lack of context in my previous ask. Cory Ruiz is a Black man who was executed by police in Madison Wisconsin on Wednesday. Here is a link to an article about it. https://www.wpr.org/news/friends-family-neighbors-mourn-madison-man-killed-police-vigil Surpirse surpirse, the article skims the details on what actually happened. Cory was on the ground being pinned by multiple officers when he was shot three times in the head. This photo is payment information to help support his family and the people occupying the intersection. We will keep the intersection shut down until the cop responsible has been arrested.
Hundreds of people gathered Thursday night for a vigil at the spot where a Madison police officer fatally shot 38-year-old Corey Ruiz the da
