I’m thinking about how humiliating it must have been for Anne de Bourgh that her mother clearly thought that the only man who could ever be prevailed upon to marry her was her cousin who had been pressured since childhood to ~do the right thing~ and condescend to marry his poor sickly cousin who no one who wasn’t family could ever look on with anything but revulsion for all that she had an enormous fortune in her own right.
