So, traveling the Webway back to realspace: I often think about how long it must have taken to reach the right gate and how exhausted everyone must be after what happened in Commorragh. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. A lot happened over the span of just a few hours for Marazhai, too. He goes from being certain of an outcome that never comes, to losing everything, to humiliation and abuse, to switching sides, to somehow defeating his sister with a bunch of mon-keighs and ultimately leaving his home with nothing but his favorite toy. This space elf is tired, and so is everyone else. They must have made camp at one point.

Since Marazhai isn’t one to cozy up around a campfire and share stories with his new lovely companions, he’d likely withdraw somewhere secluded to rest. Which Cailan, naturally, takes for the perfect moment to sneak in some sweet, addicting ✨alone time✨.

His plan goes like this:

Casually start a conversation to distract the beautiful space angel. (Maybe ask a question or two, always works.)

Gradually decrease distance by adjusting posture now and again. Repeatedly check if you’re still undetected (Cailan was not, in fact, undetected.)

Lean in eeever so slightly.

Fall asleep cuddled up because you are exhausted as fuck and chronically sleep-depived. Oh boy.

I talked about the safe space created during the crystal scene, and how Cailan keeps being drawn back to it. Which does sound like a paradox at first, because Marazhai is the antithesis of "safe". But for Cailan, who wants little more than to finally be left in peace by people, there is no safer place than being in the vicinity of someone whose sole presence is already enough to keep others away. What Cailan feels is that Marazhai starts to include him in that territorial, untouchable aura he surrounds himself with. His reasons don’t matter. What matters is that Cailan feels untouchable with him, too.

And falling asleep is a big thing for him, because he avoids sleeping as much as he can due to the nightmares. But Marazhai has such a larger-than-life presence to Cailan that his body recklessly decides: yes, this is actually a perfectly safe place to become unconscious. 💀 And Marazhai, who is exhausted too, doesn’t have the energy to do anything about this human-shaped burr that keeps attaching himself to him, so he just continues his brooding unfazed, once the conversation becomes rather one-sided. 💜
