Guess weâre equally damaged.
also when amy says "enjoy your booty call", jack says "not exactly"
not exactly
so kind of?
i'm telling you it's quite possible they're intended to canonically have a romantic past
that opener was two exs or ex almosts seeing each other again after six years apart
and then after 17 years apart, for paul...
hey guys am I late to the party

Hiya :))
U know i love ur exploration of the interpersonal relationships in Tsh, and Iâve seen u post about cyberpunk 2077, so I wondering if u have any thoughts on the dynamic between v and johnny??
A very vague, broad question I know lol, but what can I say? Ur lovely brain has charmed me, + color me curious about how u played ur v (i chose the nomad life path + tried to foster a good relationship w/ Johnny, myself; I think I got the temperance ending, which from what Iâve seen is pretty common)
Omg thank you so much for those kind words!! Yep, I love CP2077, one of my favorite games of all time.
So I assume you mean my V specifically since V's so highly customizable as a character that I'm not sure what much could be said that would be universally true for all Vs.
Her name is Valerie Locke and she's actually my profile picture. She's a corpo and I have an ongoing fanfiction about her called Secure Your Soul (on ao3) which is an AU based on the concept of "what if V never got fired from Arasaka?" It's the first in a planned two fic series. Johnny is actually also a narrator in that fic, though his first narration chapter doesn't show up until Chapter 13 since the earlier parts are all about how V managed to keep her job and then how she ended up involved in the Konpeki Plaza fiasco (long story short, she got intel that Yorinobu was betraying Arasaka by selling proprietary tech without official sanction, and she went there on the job to gather proof).
Thus far that's the only chapter in which V and Johnny interact, and it's not exactly... in the way you might expect? I'm trying not to spoil too much in case you actually want to read it, but... basically, certain things are different. Not necessarily in the sense of being less canon-compliant... it's hard to explain without just outright spoiling it. đ¤Ł
As for their dynamic... they're essentially bitter enemies experiencing forced empathy who also have identical fatal flaws (stubbornness). But they're stubborn about completely different things.
Valerie Locke is extremely loyal to Arasaka and very much a "typical corpo". She's intelligent, cool-headed, charismatic, and ruthless without being wasteful (as in, she'd prefer to settle matters without unnecessary casualties not because of moral reasons but because she thinks it's more practical that way, but at the end of the day, she will always do whatever it takes to accomplish her mission). She's also ironically an extremely optimistic person and kind of an adrenaline-junkie. She's loyal to Arasaka not because of duty or for the money but because she deeply enjoys her job. She's in it for the love of the game. Her loyalty has a ton of genuine enthusiasm behind it.
Johnny is... Johnny. He's canon Johnny, though obviously it's my particular take on him so it's naturally gonna be colored by my own unique viewpoints. I've read a lot of the Cyberpunk TTRPG materials (I'm a huge, huge TTRPG fan), and I think Mike Pondsmith is an incredible writer and really, really wish he wrote more fiction. I'm a big fan of all of his short stories about Johnny and the other characters who play a significant role in his life (Alt, Rogue, Kerry, Spider, etc.). I suppose this is technically a spoiler, but I bring a lot of that lore to the fic. So it's canon Johnny based both on the game and the TTRPG lore. He's fundamentally the same character; they actually did a really good job of staying true to the lore in the video game (that's a big part of why the game's so good). But it's a more comprehensive and expanded view of him.
So Johnny and my V, naturally, have extremely incompatible personalities and pretty much diametrically opposed goals. There are certain traits they very distinctly have in common, and they are almost all ones that make their relationship more antagonistic rather than less. They also share a brain. They can feel each other's emotions as if they are their own. They can remember each other's memories as if they actually experienced them. So... imagine what experiencing that would be like for two people who not only hate each other but see each other as a manifestation of everything in life they most stand against. And then (*Trent Reznor voice*) the line begins to blur. That's them. In a nutshell, anyway.
Oh, this isn't entirely related, but I also have a series of Cyberpunk 2077 playlists, and I have one that's technically based on the relationship between Johnny and V in the canon Devil Ending, but it also works really well for songs to describe my V and Johnny in general.
Iâm replaying the first act of Quantum Break and when Paul calls Jack and says he missed his voice it made me smile uncontrollably. Like Paul is so in love with Jack.
to be honest i think thereâs a large number of people who conflate the very real and widespread phenomenon that women tend to be written off as just mothers or love interests in order to diminish their importance in a given story with the fact that a huge reason theyâre sent to narrative purgatory in this way is BECAUSE the labels of âmotherâ and âgirlfriend/wifeâ are systematically devalued and seen as inherently inferior because theyâre terms that have been associated with ownership and/or control over women. like the amount of people whoâve told me that a certain female character is uninteresting or badly written because she happened to have a kid or be a manâs girlfriend or sister just to find out she was actually fleshed out very well and carried significant narrative importance frustrates me soo bad. thereâs a huge problem with how those roles (specifically âwifeâ and âmotherâ) are systematically devalued and yet also perpetuated as the only viable options for women to achieve their societal roles in the patriarchy but acknowledging the devaluation of those labels to begin with is an important discussion in itself.
do i have to play warhammer 1-39999 first to understand 40k

Sokka is captured aboard Zuko's ship. At some point during Tea & Interrogation with Iroh and Zuko, he lets slip that he's the son of Chief Hakoda.
âChief Hakoda?â the Prince of the Kill It With Fire Nation repeats, like his brain is as stupid as his face. Or like he just realized heâs taken a high-value hostage, redeemable for one (1) ransom against an enemy leader.
âDid I say Chief Hakoda?â Sokka laughs, nervously. âI meant, ahââ
âShut up, peasant,â the prince shouts. And then sort of⌠chokes on his own words, getting redder and redder.
---
âPerhaps a break, Prince Zuko?â says Uncle, like this is⌠like this is the tea-time social heâs set the table for.Â
Zuko is in the hallway with the door slammed behind him before he can think. Thinking. Thinking is a thing he needs to do, and Uncleâs proverbs only ever leave his thoughts feeling twisted around, andâ
And that is not a peasant that sacrificed himself, to give the Avatar a chance to flee. Thatâs a fellow prince, or whatever the Water Tribe would call him.
---
âSo,â Sokka says, spinning the teacup between his cuffed hands contemplatively. âHow much poison would you say is in here? And what kind?â
The old man is sputtering indignantly, but Sokka is very seriously considering taking his first sip. If itâs laced with something to loosen his tongue, well, canât get much worse there. Itâs not like he knows where his dad is. Or anything useful. Certainly not more useful than handing the Fire Nation the son of their fleetâs leader. And if itâs something deadly, well...
He doesnât know what his dad would do or give to get him back. But it wouldnât be good, for the war or the world or their tribe.
He figured heâd die, when heâd shouted at Katara to go, take him and go. He hadnât realized how much worse this could get. Was getting. Because the son and heir of Fire Lord Burn Them All was out in the hallway, thinking.Â
---
Zuko thinks. About what his own father would do, if he were to receive a ransom letter. The disappointment. The⌠repercussions.Â
---
âYouâre what?â Sokka asks.Â
âI am releasing you,â His Shoutiness repeats, through clenched and grinding teeth.
âHuh,â Sokka says, and takes another sip from his cup, because oh, this is hallucinogenic tea. Good stuff. âCare to explain that?â
---
No, Zuko wants to shout. But this is the fellow son of a world leader. Zuko hasnât had many friends, and heâs not looking to add the Water Prince to that atrophied number, but.Â
But he could understand.
âYou stood and fought when you could not win, for a cause you believed in,â Zuko said, and he didnât know why Uncle suddenly looked so pained. âI will not demand trinkets from your father for your return. If he hears of this, it will not be from me. You will be released at the nearest neutral port.â
---
Like an undersized fish, Sokka did not say.Â
âThat is⌠very honorable of you,â Sokka says, and doesnât know why the prince looks like heâs been gutted.
#Sokka: why yes my sister is a waterbending prodigy why do you ask#Zuko: projects onto Sokka HARDER

#the nearest neutral port just so happens to be kyoshi island #why say aang and katara what are YOU doing here??
Zuko is grinding his teeth SO HARD he did not come here to start an international incident and he WON'T start one stop looking at him like that Uncle he is doing something Honorable the Southern Prince said so and so help him he is going to KEEP BEING HONORABLE while the other boy is watching even as the Avatar creeps closer and closer one little side step at a time looking all curious and hopeful
like an actual child
THE BENDING PRODIGY SISTER IS THANKING HIM REPEAT ZUKO IS IN THE SIGHTS OF THE BENDING PRODIGY SISTER
she is smiling at him and sounds incredibly sincere
(and also confused)
and he KNOWS what "sincere" smiles from sisters mean
abort abort abort
maybe he can get his ship away from here before she "accidentally" sinks it
(clearly her bending fumbling at his ship was a clever disguise, if she'd REALLY been that bad she'd have been CAPTURED, had she been MOCKING his crew? clearly that was the only--WHY IS THE AVATAR STANDING AT HIS ELBOW)
No really WHY is the unfathomably powerful (literal child) right next to his elbow and GRINNING up at him
And talking about how Zuko is a prince. And Sokka is a prince.
(the sister is laughing behind her hand REPEAT the sister is laughing abort abort abort--)
And since there's two princes and an Avatar here on this neutral island why don't they have
why don't they have
peace talks
"I will make tea!" Uncle beams and instead of using that as cover to retreat back to their ship goes to do so IN THE VILLAGE and Zuko
Zuko can't leave him alone with these people
So there he is. On Kyoshi Island. Incapable of admitting in front of Prince Sokka and Princess Katara and Avatar, The that he might
maybe
not have the ability to create legally binding agreements like a real prince should
which is about when Zhao shows up. And you know who doesn't have the legal right to INTERRUPT peace talks?
Motherturtleducking Zhao
which is to say
he is sincerely sorry, Father, for the overstep of his position
and rest assured no formal promises were made
but please see the enclosed First Draft treaty between the Fire Nation and the United Southern Water Tribes
(as well as a small request for reparations to Kyoshi Island, for peace talk hosting and minor fire damage)
And rest further assured that he has taken the joint advice of Avatar Aang and General Iroh
And will be traveling with the Avatar to facilitate communication with the Dragon Throne
Until such time as the Fire Lord commands him not to
Sincerely,
Your Most Loyal And Obedient Son
Zuko
#anyway that's how Zuko spends all of season one on Team Avatar #The Fire Nation they encounter: are. are you a traitor #Zuko: The Father Lord has been fully appraised of the situation and I am under his direct command let us pass or YOU are the traitors #Ozai. meanwhile. #takes until season two to start regretting his habit of burning his son's correspondence on sight (via muffinlance)
theyre grown up now
