Just like lego's
So I'm been redoing my ai with Behavior Designer- its REALLY easy to do a simple patrol--->seek-->patrol thang but I'm trying to do a few more things- Like attack when in sight- choose from 3 attack types- check health- if low then flee like a coward or self destruct- more than half way there-
The reason I like Playmaker and Behavior Designer so much is because they are like lego's- premade pieces that I the non-coder user can use to put together complex things I would never be able to code-
Playmaker and Behavior Designer also talk to each other quite well as you can send events and variables between them-
This is the "Damage Checker" FSM on my player- when an enemy projectile/weapon hits the player its uses "Send Event" to send a Vector3 variable which contains the x= weapon type y=damage amount z= force to decide whether to knock down the player or not-
This FSM has a "get event info" action to retrieve the data from the event-
The vector3 is converted into individual float var- then there are used to calculate the damage the player takes/whether the player is dead and whether to knock the player down or not-
Which visual scripting asset to choose? PLAYMAKER!
I'm assuming you are like me- a total programming noob and not rich-
So to make this choice the three big deciding factors areÂ
1) Simplicity and ease of use for a total beginner/non coder
2) Price
3) Quality of support/community/tutorials
Considering those three factors there really is only two assets to choose from-
Playmaker $45Â https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/368
and
Uscript $95 Â https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/1808
I ended up choosing Playmaker as it seemed much nicer, had a ton of really good FREE tutorials and it was half the price of Uscript-
I started my adventure in Game Dev in January 2014- I tried my hand at learning to code and made some super basic crap- then in February I bought Playmaker and by June I was able to make this game with it
MagnetDroid http://gamejolt.com/games/platformer/magnetdroid/29080/
I've made 4 games total now- and with Playmaker the only limitation I've hit is when it comes to more complex enemy AI which is why I'm about to buy and learn Behavior Designer https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/15277
But anyway you don't need to think about that if you are just starting out go download Unity Free http://unity3d.com/unity/download then go buy Playmaker https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/368 it'll be the BEST $45 you ever spend I promise you that!
Then watch all the video tutorials on this page http://www.hutonggames.com/tutorials_getting_started.php
The Playmaker forums are as awesome resource as well http://hutonggames.com/playmakerforum/index.php
You'll want to watch some basic general Unity tutorials before that btw and those are all over the place-
