I know myself well enough to know I would not be very good at fanbiding and that would mainly frustrate me, so while I love fan binding and admire those who do it, I've never dabbled.
I have never regretted that decision more than I did waking up from the dream I recently had, where I excitedly bought a rare copy of the novel that Goncharov (1973) was based on, opened it up, and found that it was a hollowed out "book safe" for keeping valuables in.

I tracked down a copy of this invaluable classic and somehow got my hands on a near pristine copy secondhand from the 4th printing. It’s lost the dustjacket, alas, but that means I got it for like £5 and not the £4200 a first edition printing in fine condition goes for.

I recommend that you log out of AO3 and return only after acquiring satisfactory knowledge of the subject matter.
classical latin did in fact have an affirmative answer to an interrogative (sic), it's just not a cognate with modern english "yes" which is Germanic. but you probably recognize its modern descendants, spanish sí, italian sí, etc.
anyway how this is relevant to this post is that when Dido commits suicide in book 4 of the Aeneid she says "sic, sic! iuvat ire sub umbras" or "yes, yes! with joy i pass beneath the shadows" while stabbing herself, the allegory of penetration accompanied by shouts of ecstasy leading unto death being an interpretative exercise best left to the reader.
long time no book!
last fall I was preparing for an international move, then moved, started a new job, tried to find a new printer to replace the one I left behind in London (no luck) and a new place to live. I will be moving again soon but I borrowed the shitty printer at the office to print this because I was getting itchy not being able to make books.
Hemlock & Wine by skazka is a Hamlet and Dr Faustus crossover fic that I read at some point last year or the year before (and then immediately read The Death I Gave Him by Em X. Liu, which is a sci-fi Hamlet retelling, and boy was it an experience reading the two back to back. 10/10 do recommend.)
the text is printed on 150gsm recycled cotton paper and sewn with dark green linen thread. the illustration on the title page is a German botanical illustration of hemlock, which I cannibalised to create section dividers and to dot little illustrations throughout the text. hemlock isn’t actually mentioned within the fic, but it is in the title, so.
the cover is a fake leather (or possibly bonded leather, idk) in a lovely dark wine red. the title is foiled on with a quill, in silver, gold, and red. could’ve gone with plain gold, but hemlock flowers are white and wine is red and well, here we are.
no endpapers - this is selfended. the recycled cotton paper was already Like That so finding an endpaper to match proved a challenge I wasn’t in the mood for.

I want to state, for the record, that “all the avengers would live together in the tower” wasn’t collective headcanon, it was canon. The very last scene of Avengers (2012), the one they left us on, is Tony redesigning the tower, designing a living area for each Avenger. That was, canonically, what was supposed to happen, in canon, and they just changed their minds and decided to… not. For whatever goldarn reason.

Also it was canon for literal decades in the comics. First it was Avengers Mansion which was Tony’s Manhattan family home and then Avengers Tower when Tony built it. At one point Avengers Mansion couldn’t get their trash carried away because in order to operate in the US they had to be an embassy and NYC trash carriers don’t service embassies.
I'm loving all the poetic tags about these stars, in part because this is the floor of a shopping mall.
Okay, admittedly, that's being unfair; it's the floor of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, built in the 1860s in Milan, so it's not like, a Macy's and a food court. Still a little funny to consider.

My grandfather got the GI bill after the war and decided to become a chemist. He was a year into his degree when he spilled something on himself in the lab. The way he told it, he watched whatever it was start to dissolve the leather apron he was wearing, thought about what it might be doing to his lungs, and after calmly removing the apron, became an architect instead. I think chemists are Like That because the sane ones all self-selected out of the pool.
