Hello, world! Meet today’s #WeeklyFluff: Buona (@_pizzicato_), an exotic shorthair cat from Japan. This 2-year old fierce feline is equal parts sulky and sweet. She’s known to turn up her tail to treats if she’s not in the mood, but also loves making little sounds and curling up close to get your attention.
Today’s Exotic Fun Fact:
When a turtle has pneumonia, it then swims… with a tilt.
“I’m just gonna put my paws in the water.”
wow canoes and cats don’t get much better than that tbh

strange omens gather at the end of the street
During my first month with my therapist, I was given this worksheet to read and work on. She noticed that while I was talking with her, that my thoughts followed a lot of these. I wasn’t aware that my anxiety had brought me down paths of low self-worth and stinky thinking. After a couple of weeks of talking with her, she gave me this worksheet to work on.
While, at first, I thought these weren’t going to work out, I was very surprised to see just how easy they were to use . My homework at that time was to identify which sort of thinking I used on the regular and which ones would best challenge them for me. So, what do you think? Do any of the maladaptive thinking patterns sound like you? which ways would you like to untwist your thinking?
#SelfLoveSunday
10 Things To Add To Your Self-Care Routine Today
1. Be kind to yourself - our words create our worlds. Use words that empower you rather than those that limit you. Instead of saying “I’m suffering” you can say “I’m in the process of healing”.
2. Treat yourself - you deserve it. Take yourself out on dates and spoil yourself with your favourite foods, movies & whatever else you love to do. This strengthens the relationship you have with yourself & invites more love into your life.
3. Spend time with those you love - surround yourself with positive energy. It’s pretty difficult to show yourself love when you’re surrounded by negativity. Spend time with those who make you forget to check your phone.
4. Be present with yourself - listen to your self-talk. Pay attention to the thoughts that run through your mind and observe the effect they have on your emotions.
5. Exercise - move into the body. Neglecting the body will result in poor physical & mental health over time - move into it to release energy that has been suppressed.
6. Healthy food - nourish your body & mind. The foods we eat will determine how we feel, both physically & mentally, choose the foods that will make you feel good.
7. Creativity - express yourself. Creativity is expression of the soul and can release built up energy that has been repressed inside of us - this is extremely important for self-care.
8. Nature - reconnect with yourself. When in nature observe how the animals & plants behave and see yourself reflected in them. The flowers are patient when waiting to bloom & the animals are totally present in the now.
9. Sleep - recharge your batteries. The most important aspect of self-care is knowing when you need to rest, sleep is vital for recovery of the body and our mind. You cannot feel well if you’re sleep deprived.
10. Mindfulness - be in the now. Looking after yourself means not missing out on life - when we spend any time outside of the present moment we waste our lives. Catch yourself when you project into the past or future and ground yourself in the now using your senses.
The root of all suffering is a lack of self-love.
Peace & positive vibes.

🎃 The Nightmare Before Concha 💀 What’s this? What’s this? It’s a nasal concha i💀histo This is a curled concha in the nasal cavity. These structures are lined with respiratory mucosa - a lining that is covered in ciliated pseudostratified epithelia and has goblet cells scattered throughout. Fact: The air we breathe is filthy! The goblet cells in the respiratory mucosa lining our airway secrete mucus. This mucus traps the tiny particles floating around in the filthy air when we breath in. At the same time the cilia on the surface of the epithelium sway in one direction to propel this particle laden mucus out of the airway. Together they form an amazing biological escalator that moves the any junk you inhale away from your lungs to be coughed up or swallowed and thus preventing you from getting a lung infection every time you inhale. The nasal conchae are a series of bony structures that project into the nasal cavity on each side. The fact that they are curly means that their surface area is greater than if they were just flat… so that means there is more respiratory mucosa covering them… and if there is more respiratory mucosa then that means there is increased efficiency for trapping and moving inhaled junk! Additionally, the curls project into the airway. This means when we breathe in, the air does not fly straight into your lungs but instead its flow is disrupted significantly to ensure that everything you inhale is mixed up well and has the opportunity to come into contact with the amazing epithelium of the respiratory tract! No wonder mom always says breathe through your nose and not through your mouth! It might just save your life!

20 things learnt my second year of vet school
I’m weirdly good with cows, strangely good
I still know nothing, but I know more than I did 365 days ago. An impossibly large amount more than I did 365 days ago to be exact.
It may seem impossible to cram 10000 bacteria, virology, parasites and toxins into your brain. It is, focus on the important ones
You really don’t need to go to every class, sometimes its more efficient to teach yourself
Making summaries during lecture is an effective and efficient way to get through material and have summaries made for exams
Second year is so much harder than first year
Vet school prepares you for the NAVLE more than it prepares you to be a veterinarian
Holy *$%* I’m half way through vet school
Holy !(@*# I’m going to be a vet in less than 2 years
I still know nothing
Everyone outside of vet school still thinks I know everything
I still really know nothing
Not getting kicked by the horse is the most important part of the horse physical
Never eat chicken, you will get salmonella or campylobacter, you will get diarrhea and you may die
Don’t eat pork either
Don’t eat anything, bacteria are everywhere
Second year is the hardest for a lot of people because you’re not new anymore but your still so far from the finish line, and that can be overwhelming
You can’t do vet school alone, I would never have made it through this year without my support systems
Radiology is hard
You literally always have to study, making time for other things is important
Ross University info session tomorrow
(I applied to 5 US vet schools in September 2016 for August 2017 enrollment, and got rejected by all five without an interview. Will be applying to some more US schools plus Ross this round in September 2017 for August 2018 enrollment. Going to this information session to try and get a better grasp on what going away to St. Kitt’s would be like if I got accepted).
So after this information session, I decided that I’m tired of waiting, and I’m gonna step up and take control of my life. I’m not gonna wait around a year and a half for the US schools, I’m gonna apply NOW to Ross for September 2017 enrollment and see if I get in.
This is such an exciting and amazing opportunity, and I hate how my brain is still trying to find hundreds of dumb reasons to back out. (What if I can’t deal with the giant bugs? What if I get a parasite? What if I can’t dye my hair and my roots grow in?) Like come on brain, you can’t think of any better reasons that that?
I’m so nervous because apparently the September class fills up the quickest. I spoke to the admissions counselor at the info session and he said I would definitely get an interview. I also emailed him my information and I’m waiting to hear back.
I started the application, but I realized I have to cut my personal statement down A LOT. It started at 2000 words and I had to cut it down to 800 for VMCAS, but Ross only wants 300. =x
If I submit it now, when will I hear back about an interview? Waiting is gonna be terrible! I could be leaving in ~4 months, and there would be so much to do! What if they only let me know a few weeks before? Ahhhh.
@vetschoolvacay I’m a Rossie currently in 6th semester. If you have any questions hola at me. Seriously, anything. Super exciting and smart of you to just go for it now instead of wasting another year and a half of your life waiting on US schools. Plus, since ross in an accelerate program you will be a DVM before your would-have-been classmates at the schools that you were rejected from, how cool is THAT. Also if you want to read my personal blog to see what life has been like since I came down here (I couldn’t get enough of Rossie blogs when I was waiting to start) its @vetschoolvacation

Thanks so much! I’m making a list of all my questions, so I don’t get totally overwhelmed, hahaha. Followed! :D
I am a Rossie finishing my clinical year. I have 3 months left till I've completed vet school. Please message me with any questions!
ATTENTION VET SCHOOL STUDENTS/ PREVET STUDENTS
Hopefully this message is passed on and helps someone because I would have loved something like this before I entered vet med. WHAT IF I CAN’T GET IN? I HEAR A LOT OF VET SCHOOLS ONLY ACCEPT 3.5 GPA AND ABOVE?! -bullshit. Ya if you’re looking at an ivory league schools. I know a lot of state side students with a 3.2 gpa and lower get in. You may need to go to an OUT OF STATE SCHOOL. I went to school in the Caribbean. (Rumor has it) Caribbean schools ‘aren’t real vet schools people that can’t get into state schools go there’ Ha- maybe. At first if you talk about 'not getting accepted I was denied 13 vet schools. All of them - said no. I tried 4 again the next year. One in the Caribbean said yes. I am now finishing my clinical year, wrote the boards and graduate in May accredited to practice in the states. It was WAY MORE DIFFICULT because I did an expedited program. --it's just as real as any other vet school...BOTTOM LINE : you may get denied- but you're smart you’re going to be a doctor one day (duh) find a way around the dismissal letters. Get outside your comfort zone. Go places- I have ZERO regrets leaving the states and I was petrified to leave in the first place. DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?! WHAT IF I HAVE NONE? No problem- I was shocked to find ( no offense out there) people who have never touched a horse or a cow. You are not dumb you are not at a 'disadvantage’ you just need a couple days to catch up to speed. Experience HELPS. A lot of questions on my vet school exams I did in fact reflect back on my experiences to get the right answer when learning from lecture did not. YOU WILL FEEL STUPID. YOU WILL FEEL LIKE A FAILURE. 'I DONT THINK I CAN MAKE IT AS A VET’ This one is HARDDDDDD to get over. The constant anxiety, stress, self doubt, alllll that crap is real and means you’re doing it right. I am facing this myself with 5 months left. It’s hard. But you HAVE TO PUSH THROUGH. It is an emotional roller coaster. Ride that baby ride. CUT THE ANXIETY CRAP- PULL YOUR SOCKS UP AND JUST F'ING DO IT. We are ALL petrified to the point of paralyzation. Myself included. Keeeeeeeep going. Don't let failure paralyze you. Make yourself stronger and accept the challenge. Know you have people in the same boat as you. YOU CAN DO THIS - —- you really can. Please feel free to message me (cryptorchidness) about ANYthing regarding getting into vetschool and during vetschool I would LOVE to pay if forward and help anyone I can. Until next time I'll update more
