ā¢ When his wife, Irene (Arthur), plans to divorce him, wealthy and cruel businessman Bruce Vail (Clive) sends his chauffeur to her Paris hotel room so he can catch her in a compromising position. Instead, Bruce interrupts a masked thief, who kidnaps Irene. Later, the thief -- head waiter Paul Dumont (Boyer) reveals to Irene that he overheard the plot and wanted to help. After a romantic evening, Irene falls in love with Paul, but Bruce will stop at nothing to ruin them. (United Artists)
I can't say anything about this movie because I won't ruin the magic with my clumsy observations. All I will say is it is the most *legitimately* romantic movie ever. Just watch the Criterion Collection version please. It needs to be witnessed in the best print available.

But let's not casually *ingore* the literal beauty of Charles Boyer. Bored of the blindness to his objective handsomeness, to use the mildest choice of word you could use to describe someone of such insane levels of almost otherworldly dictionary definition *beauty*

I cant do justice to the perfection of this magical adult fairy story..
Boyer is the most unfeasibly adorable and beautiful man who ever lived, especially as Paul Dumond in this movie. If you haven't seen it, get it done. You'd have to be a cynical piece of poo not to fall in love with both him and this Frank Borzage homage to romantic love

Charles Boyer as Ralph Shwartz in the 1932 drama Tumultes. His character is newly released from prison to find his duplicitous girlfriend Ania has taken up with a new guy , Gustave , in his absence. Ralph suspects she's maybe lying but persists with her , trying to make amends for his absence by romantic gestures, including getting her an expensive fur coat . And she not only lies constantly to Ralph's face , content to watch as he gets pulled back into petty crime with no regard for him whatsoever, but as soon as he dispatches Gustave , her lover , she immediately takes another. Ralph had opened his home to Willy , a young man from the correctional facility, to help him get back on his feet . And Willy was straight away honed in on by the devious Ania.
So when he found out about her disrespectful cheating , lying and using him again, Ralph fought with the frankly stupid Willy, almost killing him.
The screenshots are from the scene where Ralph finally realises his girl hasn't been worth it all along and undoes her grip on him once and for all.

At least Ralph's 'One day ' finally arrived.
Not used to seeing Boyer in such a rough diamond role , uncultured, beefier , sweaty, grimy and with a firebrand temper, we get to see this more bruised animal side of his acting
A performance that practically prickles with feral masculinity, in which he subtly dominates . Restrained but no less incendiary for it.
Tumultes is the first real film noir and it's doesn't get much more noir than moody Boyer.

He really was exceptionally beautiful in an otherwise unremarkable movie. Once again proving he was sometimes the only reason to watch a movie. His gorgeous face and incredibly poignant acting š„¹š« ā¤ļø

I adore this movie... French movie making delicacy at its heart rendering best. Danielle Darieux is beautiful, and Charles Boyer is exquisite. He's my all-time favourite movie star and man of old Hollywood.. and this is so poignant it helps emphasise his literal beauty š
