Vi doesn’t fully remember leaving the party.
The first time it's a single flower on the beside table.
As Caitlyn trembles by her right, Vi tries not to lose it.
She wakes to a splitting headache, a sore throat and the terrified faces of her parents.
The sky turns all the shades of pink in Vi's hair and Caitlyn knows it's time to go.
It takes two hours for Caitlyn to regret forcing the shirt on Vi.
They’re all going to die.
“Good, good,” Vander’s voice is a low rumble as Vi fights the impossible burn in her chest.
“Stop distracting me,” Caitlyn says finally, pointing the nub of pencil towards Vi, “I don’t want to waste this. I only have one piece of paper.”
It feels like she’s still dreaming when she comes out of the cellar.
“She should be here,” Vi mutters, pushing herself up, “stay here.”
“This seems—unwise,” Caitlyn says finally, looking at the tools being laid out on the table, “are you sure this is a good idea with your—“ she motions around the dark bruise on Vi’s eye.
