Urgent Appeal for Donations to Support a Family Affected by the War in Gaza and to Help Them Travel to a Safe Place
Greetings,
Urgent Appeal for Donations to Support a Family Affected by the War … Mohamed Sliman needs your support for Urgent Appeal: Support a Family
My name is Mohammad Riyad Suleiman. I live in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. I am 36 years old and work as a lawyer specializing in legal and Sharia consultations. I am married and have three young daughters: Sarah, Jameela, and Rose.
Due to the ongoing war in Gaza by the Zionist entity, I have lost my source of income and am unable to meet the basic needs of my family. The war has destroyed our dreams, and I am now unable to provide food, education, or even psychological and social support for my children. We also lost the animals we relied on as an additional source of food and income.
I appeal to kind-hearted individuals to help us financially and economically. We need your support to provide:
• Food and basic necessities for my daughters.
• Psychological and social support to help them cope with the effects of the war.
• Education and healthcare.
• Clothes and other essential items that meet their needs.
In addition, we are in urgent need of traveling to a safe place, away from the ongoing horrors of war, where we can live in peace and start a new life, giving us the opportunity to rebuild our future.
My hope lies first in God, and then in the generosity of kind and benevolent people to support us in these harsh conditions. Your donation will be a lifeline for my family and will give us hope for a better tomorrow.

i remembered this interview with daniel handler recently (from just after the end was first released). and like, i think of course that the way it ended up was perfect as-is, but there is something so appealing to me about the idea of them returning to olaf’s house in TPP - and under what circumstances, looking for something specific, perhaps under kit’s instruction? what does he have that anyone could want? - with a whole world of new knowledge about vfd and chef’s salads and the complexity of the world putting everything into a new perspective. it would’ve been great.

I realllyyyy love your take on ASoUE. would you tell me what your favorite book/episodes are?
No disrespect, anon, but the fact that you said episodes here makes me feel old as balls. I remember, three hundred years ago, when the books were still coming out! Anyway
I think my favourite as a kid, and probably still my favourite going forward, is Penultimate Peril. I'm an inveterate angstmonster, and I like when things go wrong and people are in danger.
"But Jamie," I hear you ask. "Why are you not saying The End?" Well, you see, there's just so much going on in Peril that really interests me.
Everything going on with the Denouments, and what that means in terms of metanarrative as well as regular narrative. Lemony showing up. Codes hidden in the text. Choose-your-own adventure elements. Ambiguity. Nobody knowing what's going on. Poison darts, and what they mean. Setting fires. Siding with Olaf. The subtle despair at the end of the book, the uncertainty they're floating into...
I don't remember the Netflix show well enough to give you a Hot Take on favourite episodes there, sorry. I should watch that again. Actually, it's weird, the 'No Happy Ending' song came up on YouTube the other day and I was watching it and thinking about rewatching, this ask came through with good timing.
My #hipster answer is The Beatrice Letters, though. God I love the fucking Beatrice Letters.
This is from my "12 Quagmires" AU, where Quinn is the "movie" Quigley (i know there was no actual movie but still). This is a little prequel to the main story where Quinn comes out as nonbinary and Isadora helps them bake a cake!
Read on ao3 or under the cut
“Quinn?”
Quinn nodded. “That’s my name.”
Isadora hugged them. “It’s a lovely name.”
“I wanted to tell you first out of everyone… how do you think the others will react?”
“They’ll be happy for you!”
Quinn nodded. ”But I just don’t want to tell it… I want to… do something.”
”What if we bake a cake?” Isadora suggested.
”A cake?”
”Yeah! A cake where it says ’Surprise! I’m nonbinary!”
“What kind of cake mix would you need to make that?”
Isadora stared at them, disappointed. “That you even consider using a cake mix instead of baking from scratch like a normal person makes me extremely exasperated.”
“But I don’t know how to bake!”
“Then learn! Besides… we don’t need to eat it, we just need to decorate it.”
Quinn smiled. “Alright! Let’s do it!”
The two siblings forbade anyone else from entering the kitchen. It proved to be hard…
First, Quigley wanted to get in to get some soda. Isadora threw one in his face.
Then, Juliet was looking for a bracelet she dropped. Quinn told her that if they’d find it, they’d give it to her, but she couldn’t look in here.
Then, Lynn jumpscared them! He had snuck into the cupboard in a minute between Isadora getting flour and then putting the flour back. The siblings yelled at him to get out and the 7-year-old giggled maniacally.
“What kind of cake are we even baking?” Quinn asked.
“Chocolate of course! Your favorite!”
“Oh, thank goodness!”
Isadora poured the batter. “Do you want to lick the bowl?”
“I always want to lick the bowl!”
“And now you don’t have to share!”
Quinn excitedly took the spatula and scooped up the chocolatey sauce left in the bowl. Meanwhile, Isadora put the cake in the oven.
”Now we need to make the frosting!” she said. ”We need the colors… yellow… black… white… purple… not in that order, but we need those colors! I hope we have everything at home.”
”We don’t need to make the whole flag,” Quinn assured her.
”But it would be fun if we could, right?”
Unfortunately, the only frosting they had was white. Sometimes, you can’t make as decorative and fancy cakes that you see people make. Especially when you’re only 11 and 13 years old like Isadora and Quinn were at this point in time, and baking wasn’t something they did too often.
Frosting wasn’t something they were super good at doing either. As Isadora took out the chocolate cake, Quinn tried to squeeze out the frosting to make a letter - and nothing came out.
“Let me try,” Isadora said.
She tried - and squeezed out too much.
“Noo!” she whined. “Ok, let’s… we can fix it! Just-”
“Isadora. It’s no use.”
“What? You don’t want cake?”
“Of course! But… let’s just… smear the frosting over the cake instead of decorating it with letters.”
They took the spatula and made the frosting into a layer around the chocolate cake.
It didn’t look like they planned, but cakes don’t need to look good to be delicious.
”The cake does not have to come out for me,” Quinn said, ”I can come out verbally, and then we’ll eat the cake in celebration.”
They gathered everyone in the dining room.
”Isadora and I have baked a cake,” Quinn told them, ”But not just because we craved it. We have another reason.”
”What’s the reason?” their father asked.
Quinn smiled. ”As most of you know, for years I’ve felt… different. I haven’t known what caused it, I just knew that there was something about me I needed to figure out. And I finally have.”
They took a deep breath.
”My name… is Quinn. And I’m nonbinary. I’d like you all to refer to me by the pronouns they and them.”
”And we baked the cake to celebrate!” Isadora announced excitedly.
Everyone in the family was silent for a few seconds.
Then, Quinn’s triplet siblings walked up to them.
”Quinn,” William said. ”I like it.”
”It really suits you,” Juliet added.
The two hugged them tightly.
Soon, all the other siblings came up to hug them.
”Quinn Quagmire,” their mother said, ”My beautiful child.”
”I’m so glad you felt comfortable telling us,” their father said, ”We love you so much.”
They also hugged them and gave them kisses on each cheek.
Then the entire Quagmire family sat down and enjoyed the cake.
Quinn was so happy to have such a loving family. They hoped they’d always be this happy.
genuinely a series of unfortunate events has one of the best plots I’ve ever read/watched
a bunch of children getting tangled up in the mistakes their parents made and the history of people they never knew, all of which is connected in ways they’ll never understand and no one seems willing to explain
murders and arsons and love affairs and villains who knew good people and hurt good people, and secret organizations, and all of it is connected. and they didn’t ask to be here. they didn’t ask to be a part of this. yet here they are, and everywhere they go seems to lead back to what happened with olaf and their parents.
Day ONE of filling this with aro and/or ace characters
Starting off strong with Ryland Grace from Project Hail Mary!! While he is not canonically aroace, I felt as though he’s really spearheaded the aroace community these past few months and helped many people feel seen and accepted :)

netflix asoue adaptation mini salt copy/pasted from discord
one of the core elements of asoue that developed over time was a "you can't judge people by appearances" narrative where in the first five or so books all the ugly people are evil and the pretty people are good but then carmelita looks cute but is a bully, and esme looks pretty but is evil, and then jacques looks like olaf but is good, and then there are the house of freaks who look ugly but have the potential to be good and are only evil because they've been lead down that path, and then the hook-handed man (who's had his evilness tied to his appearance) is shown to be good (or have the capability for good), and then kit looks tired and unkempt but has a good heart, and then we have the denouments who have different ideologies but are identical (so you really can't tell based off their looks, now can you?) and so all of this primes you to wonder, as you face down the final book, is the man you've thought was the most evil thing in the world from the very beginning, with his crooked teeth and bony face and uncombed hair and unibrow, is he really so evil, or is that just another deceiving appearance?
so to make jacques look nothing like olaf. to not have a unibrow. to be given a fake one, even, an obviously fake one, because a good and noble person would never have an ugly trait like a unibrow is just. frustrating beyond words.
In my opinion, the firefighting side of VFD's biggest flaw, at least by the time the Baudelaire orphans encountered them, isn't that they're too morally grey in their actions, but that they don't act enough. Sure, in the Sugar Bowl Gen's youth, they were committing all sorts of shady acts, either of their own volition or on the orders of their higher-ups— stealing tea sets, assassinating minor royalty with poison darts, etc. etc. But a few decades later, the old generation had mostly disappeared, and the remaining members of the firefighters were probably so traumatised by the things they did and the things that were done to them, that they decided the best course of action was not to do anything at all.
Instead, like the open eye of their insignia, they watch. They observe, and they collect information, which is fed back into Dewey's sub-library, in the hope of one day, eventually, bringing their enemies to justice. In that way, their organisation became more straightforwardly noble than it was in the past—but also significantly less effective. This weak, toothless version of the firefighters, unwilling to commit the morally dubious actions of their past, staunchly sticking to the moral high ground, is now no match for the firestarters, and is rapidly being destroyed.
They're no help to the Baudelaires, either. It's heavily implied that VFD were closely watching them since the very beginning of their series of unfortunate events, taking photos, writing reports. Surely, at some point, someone could have grabbed them by the ankles and rescued them.
And then, finally, the big day arrives, the day where all their enemies will be brought to justice. Despite being a secret organisation, operating outside the government, the Firefighters put all their hope into the justice system to solve their problems. And when the Baudelaires reveal the truth to them, that the evil of the world is at the very heart of justice itself, they refuse to take their blindfolds off. For once, the organisation with an eye as their insignia, that has done basically nothing but sit back and watch as everything goes wrong, refuses to see. They're just as useless as everyone else.

"Leave him alone!" I exclaim as I'm actively writing a scene where he has to grapple with the idea that Beatrice Baudelaire might not have been a good person and the pedestal he put her on has actively blinded him to that.
