How devastating it must be to come to terms with the fact that your mother, the literal Goddess of Life, actually hated you because of the very fact that you were alive (and that meant potentially not doing what she wanted you to do)...
Thinking about Vaelus and Hannan and how happy he seemed that she finally let go. For an elvish member of the old path this is the best they can hope for, that this old wounds will be healed in all their people, and they can enjoy the time they have left together. It was so sweet, because there are no happy endings anymore for the elves and they will be forever diminishing, but they don't need to be stagnant in their ancient fights forever. They can change. I'm really so glad that Vaelus let go so fast when she was given the perspective.

it feels like there's a direct line from the question that kicked off the Shapers War being "why can't I keep my family safe?" and the reveal that Sylandri directly controlled which elves were allowed to have children. between "we were the only people that knew we were doing it without a reward.Ā the land that was promised to us after death was the same as life, just more suffering.Ā endless wasteland, choked by ash and fire." and "an eternity, to have all of your complexity, all of your possibility, all of your dreams folded into an idyllic paradise where you would be punished for the most minor infraction?" no wonder the orcs were the first to kill their god and the elves were the last. whether it was a certainty or not at the time of the Shapers' War, the elves had to know there was at least a chance this rebellion would end in a slow extinction event for their people, and I'm inclined to believe this might be in part the reason they named their god-slaying weapon The Last Arrow. therefore, Vaelus and those who fought for Sylandri were likely asking themselves the same question that motivated the Lloys to build the Pariah Blades.
it's also interesting in the difference between the elves of the Old Path and the practitioners of other races. if the ability to have children was decided to only be granted to the most faithful then elves like Hannan and his wife were foregoing the possibility of ever passing on their traditions to their biological children as the other races of the Old Path could. of course, biological family isn't the only type of family, but it does mean the elven druids had to put themselves in more danger in order to find others who shared their beliefs. there were no generations of secret worship. they had to intentionally seek each other out just to learn about the Path, let alone find community with each other, and if they were discovered, if they confided in the wrong person, they were persecuted the most harshly by their goddess of life and nature.
in the blessing of Azgra, the orcish druid Agari Shadow blesses him most of all for "his honesty, because of all the gods of AramĆ”n, ours was the only one who never lied about what he truly was." Sylandri is initially set up to be seen as the kindest of the Shapers, the Green Mother who allowed her people to live in an eternal paradise even after death, and slowly, that portrayal has been peeled back as we learn more about Vaelus and Hannan to something just as malicious as Azgra. for all his crueltyāand make no mistake, he was cruel and the orcs suffered greatly under himāAzgra did not leave a blight on Kahad as he died, as far as we know. his Barrowdell is deemed the only positive Barrowdell in AramĆ”n. in her final moments, Sylandri was so spiteful thst she damned her people, both those who were faithful to her and those who weren't, to genocide rather than see them flourish without her.
Hannan quietly saying, "That was cruel" about the Ingrid/Julien thing is so funny in retrospect
Hannan maybe saw Julien out the corner of his eye for five minutes, and he immediately came to the conclusion, "that guy has problems"
Hannan, the centuries old druid who canonically plunges into the worst places bc hes hikey depressed, took one glancing look at Julien Davinos and went, "there aint no way that guy can be fixed"

I think itās that horror in the moment where someone who you believe deep down wishes for those things that are dear to you to burn off of the face of the world - there is something painful when they pass the salt to you, when they open a door for you.
Those kindnesses become extra painful when something so profound cannot connect.

No, I think he is so interesting and layered. I donāt want that to fall away cuz he apparently comes with them now, but like. These moments make me so intrigued!
And now you could say that he has āalready lost his edgeā (aka isnāt as hostile) in regards to Values, but I donāt necessarily think that is āmellowing outā his character. There are still some ill-feelings here, just not as singular anymore. They r mixed with other impressions, which makes what he does about that, how he goes about it, all the more interesting.
Also:
Hannan: āIf you wish for me to come with you to Dol-Makjar and remain there so that you are not a lone voice speaking for the druidic orders of the world, Iām happy to do so.ā
Me: Yes please come so you are always around fav NPC! .. But also, donāt lose your own agenda man! I know u r an NPC, but u r better than standing like a Lady in Waiting for them to consult.
That is to say. I am zwiegespalten what to want here xdd
He did say he would give them the space they need, which I am gonna interpret as him also taking that space for himself and doing his own stuff (not just Brennan being tired of constantly having an NPC running with)
