sorry to cullenpost on the dashboard but like idk its like he grew up in a stupid gay lil village in ferelden right. like he almost definitely grew up poor or at the very least Not Wealthy. and he joined the templars under the idea that he was protecting Both the mages and civilians from each other, then realized that it's actually the former that's the true threat and then endeavored to instead become a soldier to protect those who cannot protect themselves. THEN he gets deployed to the city with like what he believes to have one of the worst apostate crises in thedas, works his way up to knight captain in record time because he's that devoted, and then this fereldan refugee comes by. and they're solving all the problems that cullen didnt even know exist because they're all happening in the poor areas of the city, which cullen has literally never been andâhang on. WHY are there no templars in lowtown. why are they so focused on protecting the elite, the ones that live Right Next To The Guards, when the real crime and danger and problems are happening to people that can't defend themselves? and then that's where his gradual loss of faith in the order comes all the way up to meredith literally burning all his ideals to the ground in front of his face by making a warzone out of kirkwall.
its great we get actual cullen development that isnt like entirely offscreen and we get actual in-universe acknowledgment of the weird unspoken class disparity with the chantry and we also get like a logical reason why cullen still believes in An order, just not the one that's been corrupted by people who separate human beings into categories of things to be controlled rather than individuals to be helped.
i think about andersâs mother all the time and we know literally two things about her.
we know she cried when the templars took anders away and that the only thing he brought with him to the circle was a pillow she embroidered for him. thatâs pretty much it.
anders can tell hawke that when mage children are taken to the circle, templars threaten their parents with imprisonment if they try to contact them. there are other circle mages who do have contact with their families, so it suggests that his own parents may have been threatened. in the same conversation, he talks about templars ripping children away from their mothers; it's (understandably) a big theme throughout da2 in his fight to seek justice for mages.
i just always wonder about what happened anders's mother after he was taken to the circle. what did she think of her husband and what he did, calling the templars on their child? did she stay with him? thereâs nothing to suggest that anders had siblings. did his parents try to start over and have more children? did she ever try to contact her son, despite any templar threats? did she write letters that made it to kinloch hold, only for a templar to throw them away?
how often did she think about him? how often did she wonder if he was even still alive? she must have heard about what happened at kinloch during the blight. did she think he was killed, or that he became an abomination? or did she hold out hope that the hero of ferelden got there in time?
when she heard about the chantry explosion in kirkwall, did she think about her son who lived or died in the ferelden circle? when the circles fell, did she hold out hope that he might show up on their doorstepâa grown man nowâas irrational as that hope might have felt?
we know that the first time anders ran away, he was trying to go home. did an anders who survived the chantry explosion aftermath ever dare to go back and find his mother?

this is why they couldnât make ashur being the black divine explicitly canon LOL âleader of an anti-slavery organization is also the leader of an organization that directly profits off of slavery as his day jobâ was too much of a moral quandary to confront and it wouldâve sidetracked literally everything about the shadow dragons. i think it could be potentially interesting as a character premise and i wouldnât doubt that was what they intended but it wouldâve required wayyyy more time and focus than it really couldâve gotten with ashur being a minor character in a rushed game and also wouldâve required the imperial chantry existing at all in veilguard
also sorry sidenote the imperial chantry was violently purged in 9:27? the divine prior to aequitas ii was a usurper? lord seeker lambert was involved??? what happened with that. can we get back to that. whatâs going on in the imperial chantry guys

Ser Lambert rose quickly through the templar ranks, serving with distinction at the Circle of Magi in Ghislain until achieving the rank of knightâcaptain in 9:17 Dragon. That year, he led a group of templars north into the dangerous border region of the Tevinter Imp erium to chase a group of escaped apostates. When he was confronted by a larger group of Imperial Templars just outside the Tevinter city of Caimen Brea who had already taken his apostates captive, the result could easily have been a diplomatic nightmare that led to war. Instead, Ser Lambert respectfuďŹy negotiated with the templars and won the admiration of a ranking mage who traveled with them: Magister Urian Nihalias. It was this feat that led to Lambert being recruited into the Seekers of Truth months laterâa remarkable feat, considering the vast majority of Seekers are recruited as youthsâand, in 9:21 Dragon, led to his appointment as a Seeker liaison to the Tevinter Imperium. This last came at the personal request of Magister Urian. For years, Lambert served with the Imperial Templars, aiding them by taking charge of investigations of magical corruption. It was a task he grew frustrated with, as evidenced by a letter to Lady Seeker Nicoline in 9:25 Dragon. âMagister Urian has been a wonderful friend, and without him I donât believe I could stand it,â Lambert wrote. âThese people asked for our help, and there is so much corruption I could spend day and night hunting the culprits and still not learn of half of it. Yet I do nothing but encounter obstacles, placed in my way by senators who do not wish their allies displaced, or who obscure their own tracks. Despite the knight-commander assuring me that it will all be rooted out in good time, I am uncertain. I ďŹnd myself listening more and more to Urian and his talk of extreme measures being needed, but I cannot in good conscience take them while also serving the Orlesian Chantry.â Regardless of his misgivings, Ser Lambert took part in what amounted to a coup in 9:27 Dragonâwhen several high-ranking magisters, including Magister Urian, and a select group of Imperial Templars, arrested in a single night the reigning Black Divine and ďŹve of the highestâranking magisters in Minrathous. The resulting trial, including word of Lambertâs involvement, caused scandal back in Orlais⌠no less than when Magister Urian himself assumed the role of Black Divine. To her mounting frustration, not one vial simply said what it was. âIf you survive this, we are definitely coming up with a sensible naming convention.â Finally, her hand stilled over one called Up and Adder. Teia winced. âI should let you die for that.â
the worst part is you can't even tell them to get a room. they already HAVE a room. Viago is actively dying and they're still like this.
