*Extremely Nerdy Literature Post*
Maybe if I read more Thomas Hardy instead of Jane Austen I might have realistic expectations of men.
me when i'm with other people: i am loved 😌
as soon as i'm alone: but am i 😰
no emotional object permanence
Sometimes things in context… are better
I’ve legit been searching for this video for a couple weeks

been seeing a lot of those awful weight loss ads on here again specifically for losing stomach fat so just a little reminder for myself and everyone else: having fat on your tummy is GOOD, having a flat stomach is not the ideal we should be pushing ourselves toward, its 100% natural to have a tummy that sticks out, your stomach is literally holding all your important internal organs that let u eat & make energy & grow, having fat there means your insides are nice n protected, tummy fat is natural & good & healthy, its also very cute which is less important but still true. theres nothing wrong with your stomach and you dont need to change it
idk who needs to hear this but when your english teacher asks you to explain why an author chose to use a specific metaphor or literary device, it’s not because you won’t be able to function in real-world society without the essential knowledge of gatsby’s green light or whatever, it’s because that process develops your abilities to parse a text for meaning and fill in gaps in information by yourself, and if you’re wondering what happens when you DON’T develop an adult level of reading comprehension, look no further than the dizzying array of examples right here on tumblr dot com
this post went from 600 to 2400 notes in the time it took me to write 3 emails. i’m already terrified for what’s going to happen in there
k but also, as an addendum, the reason we study literary analysis is because everything an author writes has meaning, whether it was intentional or not, and their biases and agendas are often reflected in their choice of language and literary devices and so forth! and that ties directly into being able to identify, for example, the racist and antisemitic dogwhistles often employed by the right wing, or the subconscious word choices that can unintentionally illustrate someone’s bias or blind spot. LANGUAGE HAS WEIGHT AND MEANING! the way we communicate is a reflection of our inner selves, and that’s true regardless of whether it’s a short story or a novel or a blog post or a tweet. instead of taking a piece of writing at face value and stopping there, assuming that there is no deeper meaning or thought behind the words on the page, ask yourself these two questions instead:
1. what is the author trying to say? 2. what does the author maybe not realize they’re saying?
because the most interesting reading of any piece of literature, imho, usually occupies the space in between those questions.
Photos by Marcus Ingram (IG: @junglebrother) at soon-to-be dismantled Robert E. Lee Statue on Monument Avenue in Richmond, former capital of the Confederacy. A symbolic & actual victory, and these photos really capture the moment…
People are saying this in a scold-y way so here's it being said in a reminder-y way:
Double check every video and photo before you reblog. Protesters' images should only be circulated if they have full facial coverings. The police and white supremacists use these photos to find and kill these folks extrajudicially. We need to learn from the mistakes we made during Ferguson and before. We need to protect our comrades as best we can.

i’m not quite sure that everyone understands the severity of antifa being designated as a terrorist organization.
antifa is not an organization. it does not have structure, members, leaders, meetups, rules, etc. it is literally just shorthand for antifascist. that’s all it fucking is. the only designation for “being antifa” is considering yourself antifascist.
if antifa is labeled as a terrorist organization, calling yourself antifascist gives the government legal grounds to arrest you for terrorism.
if donald trump isn’t bluffing about this, it will give the government the legal right to arrest people who are vocally antifascist for suspected domestic terrorism. antifascist peaceful protests will no longer have the legal right to exist.
antifa is a ideology, not a group. if it gets legally classified as a terrorist organization, the government has the jurisdiction to arrest anyone they deem to be a part of it.
this isn’t fearmongering. this is what being classified as a terrorist means. and it is beyond dangerous.
Not a single lie in sight……
Hello, college grad that actually wrote an award winning paper on this topic! Here’s some knowledge I’d like to share: There’s actually been studies as to why it’s usually white kids, a large conclusion amongst the criminology community is that those that often have more privileged lives (white kids in our society’s case) are less adept to dealing with stress and denial. Whereas minorities and others are more likely to cope and function normally despite stressors because of the constant stressors that come from systematic racism and/or other platforms of more limited priviledge.
TL;DR: It’s usually a white kid because their privilege incacipated their ability to learn how to handle stress/ denial/ whatever without acting out. The less privileged are done used to the bs and thus typically dont turn to extreme measures as coping mechanisms.
EDIT: I had reblogged this and added a link to the paper (which I should’ve done to begin with,) but it’s probably best I just edit my original reblog and add the link (which I also should’ve just done already.)
Anyway, it can be found fully sourced here.
👀👀👀👀 I like tea spilled with sources and data.
what do people in their twentys do except go to the grocery store……….
sometimes we lie in bed paralyzed by the knowledge that life is neither meaningful nor enjoyable
and then we go get snacks

me after 4 days of self-quarantine
sometimes there’s videos that make me happy to exist on this planet
i’d reblog this even if it was a still image
I know it’s a sesame street clip but seriously, who is the target audience for this?
Parents watching it with their kids, I guess?
literally everyone
Everyone. No, really… everyone.
For adults, the appeal is Sir Patrick Stewart doing a kid’s educational bit in full Shakespearean dress and style; there’s a delightful cognitive dissonance between the very serious presentation and the very simple content.
For very small children, it’s educational: this is the letter “B”; here’s how it’s shaped; here’s some words you know that start with it. Oh, and here’s a word you may not be familiar with that starts with it, so you can recognize that it’s the sound that matters, and not whatever other connection you made between the other two words.
For older kids: you’ve probably heard that “to be or not to be?” speech, or at least part of it, so you can enjoy some of the parody the adults are watching. Also, here’s how to describe how a letter is made - how to teach young siblings who don’t read yet, how to explain both the shape and the sound.
For kids with dyslexia: here’s how you differentiate a “B” from a P or D or E. You may have to go slowly and look carefully at the exact shapes that make up the whole, but there are differences and you can learn to recognize them.
For teens or young college students: In addition to whichever parts of those are relevant to you, here’s what Shakespearean acting sounds like. Here’s how to enunciate clearly and slowly, so your audience can understand terms they may not recognize and still follow the gist of what you’re saying. If you’re reading Shakespeare in school, try sounding it out like this and see if that helps it make sense.
For new RenFaire workers: Here’s how to pronounce “zounds.”
One of the most glorious things in the world is Shakespearean actors doing stuff like this.
