my mind is all over the place rn but now im thinking abt how arthur fan meta that is overly negative toward DW has always been weird to me. like. she's four. her antics are actually quite funny 99% of the time
I've noticed an uptick in people taking fiction (especially cartoons that, while can be enjoyed by anyone, are aimed at children) way too seriously. Obviously, yes, there have always been people like this.
Media literacy is a real problem right now, but I imagine it also has to do with increased isolation in society. We need other opinions so we can reflect on our own. If you're isolated and you constantly browse websites where everyone agrees with you, it's only going to enforce your thinking.
Don't get me wrong, fiction can and does make us feel things... but at some point you have to step away and remember it's not real. Even if the fictional scenarios and personalities of characters are realistic.
I also think it's a bit of misogyny. When male fictional characters are terrible, the people you're talking about don't care... but when it's a female character? Oh boy. They get straight up rageful.
Because women are terrible and deserve to be punished. Even if the character is a four-year-old anthro aardvark.
("You" in the general sense, not you, OP. Also, take a shot every time I used the word "fiction/fictional" lol)
