I love this text post so I drew it
sometimes people will make you feel stupid for being kind. this makes it hard to stay kind. it is important that you do anyway. if you have become unkind, it is important to remember that you can become kind again. it's a skill, not an inherent trait.
My Shakespeare students (they are 12) wanted to summarize the lessons they learned this semester. If. Um. Anybody would like to see.
I cannot emphasize enough that they made these with very little input from me.
Henry the Fifth
- ALWAYS encourage others to do their best.
- NEVER talk about people behind their back.
Antony and Cleopatra
- ALWAYS check your produce for pests. [They liked this one so much made a rap about it.]
- NEVER count your chickens before they hatch.
Hamlet
- ALWAYS act decisively
- NEVER tell your girlfriend to go to a convent and become a nun [Oh boy they REALLY liked this one]
Romeo and Juliet
- ALWAYS collect all the important information before making an important decision
- NEVER bite your thumb at us, sir. [They enacted this scene in the original language a lot, except they swapped every âsirâ for âbro.â]
The Merchant of Venice
- ALWAYS pay your debts.
- NEVER judge based on appearances, because âall that glisters is not gold.â
The Tempest
- ALWAYS try to forgive others.
- NEVER be a colonizer. [Yes, a middle schooler said this]
Midsummer Nightâs Dream
- ALWAYS stay on forest trails
- NEVER fall in love with an ass. [They were excited about this one for obvious reasons.]
Twelfth Night
- ALWAYS stay in touch with those important to us
- NEVER read other peopleâs mail
Macbeth
- ALWAYS wash your hands. [One of the girls performed Lady Macbethâs entire Out Damn Spot monologue at the end of the semester]
- NEVER succumb to peer pressure.
Abraham. Do you bite your thumb at us, bro? Sampson. I do bite my thumb, bro. Abraham. Do you bite your thumb at us, bro? Sampson. [Aside to GREGORY] Is the law of our side, if I say ay? Gregory. No. Sampson. No, bro, I do not bite my thumb at you, bro, but I bite my thumb, bro. Gregory. Do you quarrel, bro? Abraham. Quarrel bro! no, bro. Sampson. If you do, bro, I am for you: I serve as good a man as you. Abraham. No better. Sampson. Well, bro. Gregory. Say 'better:' here comes one of my master's kinsmen. Sampson. Yes, better, bro. Abraham. You lie. Sampson. Draw, if you be men. Gregory, remember thy swashing blow.
There were a few variations of this but my favorites were âyou trynaâ go, bro?â [do you quarrel, sir?] and âis the law on our side if I say shâya?â
I love all of this for so many reasons.
I suspect Shakespeare would, too.

living in the us right now is just a constant stream of
forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it youâre literally gonna be using that almost every day
I just need a good pot, a good wok, TWO paring knives, TWO steak knives, and one Santoku style choppitychoppity.
Thatâs IT.
I ask for SO LITTLE.
Very helpfully, there is someone keeping track of which high-quality kitchenware has been enshittified and which hasnât.

Oh HELL yes.
"God never gives you more than you can handle" is survivorship bias. People who got more than they could handle are dead.
Oh, dear. I can't reblog that fast enough.

Tumblr folk are so patient with each other. I donât remember why I followed half of you people and every day I scroll past Discourse from someone whoâs moved fandoms ranting about some show Iâve never heard of in incomprehensible shorthand like âWC/YT shippers from ZZNMHP just donât understand why Jyrra of the North couldnât retrieve the Aggro Crag from the MalignaSwampâ completely untagged and Iâm just like
@maxwell-demon I need you to know that like four people in succession have posted this exact sentiment and I still love you all
Itâs crazy that countries on the edge of the Sahara desert are reversing desertification by just digging half circles
The ground in these places is too compact for water to soak in during wet season which leads to flooding but digging these holes gives the water a place to stop and soak in. And theyâre pushing back the desert with this. By just digging holes.
The new plants also help even more water soak into the ground which reduces flooding even more.
These places also give people places to grow food and graze animals like people are turning completely dry compact desert into a refuge for wildlife and plants and solving regional food insecurity just by digging holes.
The half-circles are called zaĂŻ! They're a traditional farming practice in the Sahel desert, and their introduction + reintroduction can be largely credited to Yacouba Sawadogo, the man linked above! He reintroduced and innovated on the zaĂŻ on his own farm in the 1980s, and did extensive outreach (along with scientist Mathieu OuĂŠdraogo) to encourage other farmers to adopt them as well.
He also promoted the use of cordons pierreux, which are basically just lines of rocks to reduce erosion, preserve sediments, and increase water absorption.
Immensely cool dude. He's been a personal hero since I learned about him.
Ooooh, Mr. Sawadoga innovated the traditional zai method by adding manure and other biological matter to the holes! This put nutrients in the soil as well as helping even more with water retention and attracted termites whose tunnels helped loosen the compacted earth, all of which supported plant-growth like no zai before! Which increased water-retention even further! Oh excellent, excellent work!
It is a crime that the link preview doesn't show Mr. Sawadoga's face, so here's his photo from Wikipedia.
This is the face of a man adding beauty to the world and making the future better.
This is beautiful. I love this.

this might be kind of a reach but is there a way for printers to connect to devices so that documents can be printed from them
