in 2010, a camp counselor goon logged on to the somethingawful forums asking for help with the zipline he build from scratch, and with no engineering knowledge, that didn’t seem to be working right. when he tested it with a sandbag, it continued to gather speed during the entirety of the 143 foot drop (19 degree slope) until it slammed into the wooden platform at the bottom at a speed of 65mph, presumably creating a child paste that would have to be scraped off to be sent home. there were pictures.

I personally am not a huge fan of the design, but you’re right - it’s not completely offensive when you look at it by itself The reason it’s fucked up is because the creator:

a) Was not an engineer and yet tried to tackle a complete bathroom renovation as though he were (which resulted in thousands of dollars of damage)

b) Eventually confessed that he was designing the bathroom with a woman in mind, despite never having lived with a woman, and proceeded to list all the things he thought women wanted in a bathroom

c) When actual women responded to his assumptions about what women want (and they were understandably offended by some of the generalizations he made about women), he was rude and condescending to them, and made more broad, sexist generalizations

d) He kept calling women “females” despite many people telling him that they felt put down and dehumanized by it

e) One of the last things he posted about that argued that he had never met a man who didn’t like to be called “male”, (which, as a woman, I think is the worst possible argument for someone referring to women as “females” as if he were a dog breeder)
