And I'm very glad that I held off for a bit instead of jumping right in at the very start.

I'm not going to talk about any actual spoilers in this post; don't worry.

But early release spoilers like the ones that have been coming out for RE9 all fall into the same trap: they're reported incorrectly/incompletely/out of context up front, and then they're slowly corrected after the fact. I think that a lot of the crash-outs that are currently happening are a result of people getting early/wrong/incomplete info.

Because I gotta tell you. After digging around for the full picture, there is absolutely nothing in RE9 that warrants the reaction it's been getting.

But those very early first reports? Yeah, they're baffling. They're confusing. They're outrageous. They make no sense.

But as corrections have come in... oh, it makes sense now, and this is actually pretty unoffensive.

The other thing is that there's no actual deep, meaty context for any of the plot points that are getting dropped. Even if you watch an entire cutscene, you have no real context for what led up to that cutscene -- and I haven't seen a single person talk in-depth about what's contained in any of the files/memos in the game yet, either. There's a lot that's missing.

I know all of the spoilers. But I still don't have even a loose grasp on either Leon or Grace's character progression or arcs in this game. Not even remotely. I don't know how things get to where they go -- because the people who drop early spoilers like this aren't interested in things like that. They just want to give the big, explosive plot points.

But there's still nothing in here that's super controversial. And if you have information in your brain that feels like it's super controversial, then you probably have just an early reporting.
