do I wanna watch next to normal tonight or do I wanna be happy

been thinking a lot about a production of next to normal that is set in the late 40s/early 50s. I think it could make some things make more sense - Gabe’s death could be due to SIDS, sexism would contribute to how Natalie is overlooked, ECT would be more implicated, Dan staying because divorce was frowned upon, the anti-weed message becomes more fitting, the farmer and plath references are more timely ... there could also be a point where Dan is grieving not only Gabe but he has also returned from WWII and readjusting to being back home idk. some things would have to be adjusted obvs like I don’t think they would have all the meds Diana trials but I think it could play up the idea of being a perfect housewife and perfect mother. her costuming could change so the her mental state, like after she flushes her meds maybe her makeup starts to get a little more unkempt in each scene and her dress is wrinkled. Gabe could appear wearing like… a perfectly ironed letterman jacket to show he was the perfect son. or maybe Gabe went of to WWII and died idk lol there’s something there with WWII. anyway. any theaters wanna hire me.

it does baffle me that they put Sofia back in her first/original dress for the new series… it’s likely for character recognition purposes and merch purposes but she just seems so young and supposedly royal magic takes place after the original series, which would mean Sofia is 11-12. she looks like she’s 8 again!!!
