Another great piece from Freddie DeBoer this morning. He talks about the paralyzing fear of looking old and uncool from the perspective of, e.g. college professors and journalists in merciless, cutthroat professional environments, but I see it on tumblr too, where we have no PR to maintain and no economic incentives to coddle our customers students. You will never convince me that "lol lmao nothing matters cheat and lie and steal all you want society is a sham" passing as "socialism" is anything more than the repressed self-loathing of Smart Kids who wish they were Cool Kids. I think, relative to a few years ago, that people are realizing that loudly forswearing the concepts of personal responsibility and work ethic just so you don't "sound like a boomer" makes the world a very shitty place very rapidly.
