They were clad in pristine, Lululemon yoga attire, a midnight shade of blue and a purchase that was entirely frivolous but the sales girl at the shop had a rather, cunning way with words, dripping with a certain charm that surely worked on others. Well, Viveka had bought at least more than a week’s worth of workout clothes, something to hopefully motivate them to actually vacate their house. Though the beat-up sneakers their ex-spouse had gifted them years ago looked painfully out of place among the new attire. They didn’t run often, but it was a hobby of Alice’s so they indulged in the shared activity for as long as they could. They weren’t, out of shape per say. They could do at least fifty push-ups and pull-ups which, according to the chart plastered on the wall of their gym ( they rarely frequented ) that was relatively healthy. New year, new me – of course, they didn’t believe all that bullshit but mentally, Viveka had done a lot of work on themselves. Their therapist claimed they should be proud of all the work they’ve accomplished within the last year or so. Viveka was unsure if she entirely believed the praise, but there was something to be said, they didn’t automatically resume to a somber state the moment they awoke and for that, she was grateful. But all other aspects of their life, well they had to expand, for lack of a better term. If they were going to attempt giving it another try with Alice – if that is what the wedding planner even wanted, then they would have to be a “better” model of themselves. No more moping around the house in a depressive state, no more taking things for granted, that is what they did that with Alice and that completely obliterated their marriage. They were doing this, for love? No, for themselves really, but if it happened along the way that Alice wanted to give them another chance, then so be it. Studying their reflection in the mirror, Viveka exhaled a deep breath, letting their ribs compress as they grabbed their keys and headed over to Val’s. How they convinced Viveka into such a strenuous activity will always be an underlying mystery. Knocking on Val’s door, Viveka shifted their weight from one leg to the other, their arms lacing across their chest. “I just want you to know that I have already given up. But I do look cute in these yoga pants, even though I do think yoga is a trivial pursuit. Alright, I’m ready to run around and drink green juice and all that. I’m just assuming that’s what people do, I’m really going off my limited knowledge of Sex and The City.”
working out and being physically active was something that was always of utmost importance to valeria since they were a child. they’ find themselves with so much energy they didn’t know what to do with or so much frustration they wanted to punch someone’s head off and the only way they’d feel better afterward was when they did something physical. they liked to run along the coast of the beach. they liked to swim. they liked to box. they even liked to take spinning and zumba classes. val never tired of options when it came to keeping in shape, it made enjoying all the rich foods they loved much more satisfying. when they were active, they liked to help their friends get into the habit too even if it meant physically dragging them. the latter was especially pertinent when it came to viveka. val didn’t mind helping them get into shape, they definitely had their work cut out for them though. the moment they open the door and they hear the words from viveka’s mouth, val shakes her head. “ first of all, juicing is bullshit and we’re not doing that. ” they say waving their comment off, “ water. that’s all you need. ice. cold. water. ” with that val hands viveka a bottle of half frozen water. “ and just fyi, i’m not letting you give up so you better stretch. ”
