This blog is for my Fallen London endeavors. Currently I'm playing as Valerie Pine, a Correspondent (and addressed as such) pursuing her Heart's Desire.
She is largely sympathetic to the pleas of the downtrodden, from ratly concerns to the Rubbery Men, and she does her best to do good in the world. Her days as a journalist have alerted her to the revolutionary cause, and a glimpse at her destiny has shown her that care is still warranted.
In her personal tastes, she delights in the indulgent, the strange, and the Bizarre. She has never left the Tomb-colonies (a place she is not unfamiliar with) anything less than unrepentant.
Feel free to reach out through Fallen London, both in-character and out, and I will respond in kind.

Ahoy hoy FL Tumblr! With the revelation there is an undiscovered trinket released somewhere in the past few months, a search effort has been put in place to try and locate it.
I have made a document where we can work together for trinket hunting. There is a page for suggestions, and a page to mark down what has been checked. Please help us find this blasted thing!
A few days ago, a new dream was discovered in the London deck. In light of having not much to do otherwise, I've gone digging for it.
So. I'm now stuck in London carding through my deck, with limited cards I want to spend actions on. I could take this opportunity to raise renown, of course. There are various carousels that allow you to obtain favours while carding, and my renowns are generally pretty low.
Or. I could continue a vanity grind I got halfway done: Union Sympathiser 77
For those who don't know about this quality (or more likely, have forgotten its existence): this is not a vanity quality. This is a progress quality for the Battle of Wolfstack Docks. This is a pyramidal progress quality. You only ever need to raise it up to 5. There are two actions that raise it: holding the picket line for 1 point, or scuttling boats with Clay Men on board for 2 points. This latter action also raises Ruthless, for good reason.
This whole progress takes 2625 actions to complete (around half that if you scuttle ships). I'm currently 1220 actions into it (technically a bit less - I scuttled some ships before feeling bad and switching back to the slower option). Almost halfway there.

very funny firmament ch 8 mechanics thing, no story spoilers
so in ch 8, one of the new activities unlocks an action with this banger of a boldtext:
You will gain a Boon that increases your Kataleptic Toxicology skill and decreases Suspicion build-up. While it is active, you will receive Crystallised Euphoria every day. The Boon will remain for an unpredictable amount of time, and when it dissipates, you will die.
so of course, a whole bunch of the vanguarders clicked it. they're Fallen London players - and ones who are always on the cutting edge of content, at that! what do you expect them to do? not click the exciting new "this is a bad idea" button?
anyway, that was a week ago. today, an in-game holiday started: Whitsun, an annual festival all about hatching myriad monstrosities from gruesomely oversized eggs, which is a remarkably convoluted and time-sensitive process.
so, naturally. guess when the first round of deaths happened
it turns out that all that happens is that when you leave and go to a place where you CAN die, you die (normal) first from having over 8 wounds. then when you come back to life, you die Again from The Mechanic
I got the twomodachi life on the handmedown switch from me mom
Let me know (messages/replies/reblogs etc) if you want in on a playthrough of someone who has never played a tomodachi type game with uhhh age/preferences uhhhh the personality slider thing and maybe a general idea of the voice thing if possible (i might turn that off though
I will be liveblogging this when i am able (work etc etc) so irregularly
I don't generally post about this sort of thing (or at all, really), but I figured I should put it out there. So without further ado
About that latest ES, huh
I'm still trying to grapple with my feelings about it. For those who are yet to play it while attempting to remain vague enough that you won't be spoiled for it, the basic premise of the ES follows prince Leopold, the prince that died. There is a really quite long section, which is to say, the bulk of the ES, in which you play as prince Leopold. In this, your FLPC temporarily functionally becomes a 12 year old boy. This is to the point that, (and I do warn for small, out of context spoilers here) when your FLPC comes to, they will confuse the reflection of a 12 year old boy for their own, briefly.
This is played as horror, to be clear. There are more aspects to it, but this is part of it. If you haven't played the ES, this is the point where I recommend you do play it if you have the (E)EF subscription and weren't turned away by the above description. For the rest, I will continue my thoughts below the Read More, as to not take up . too much space.
To start with - it really was a well-made ES. Tuffs' writing is overall fairly strong, and the mechanics help sell the core conceit of the story well. The deeper lore surrounding the Royal Family and Mr Mirrors was genuinely interesting and enriches the world of Fallen London.
In the community-run ES/Fate survey, I gave it a 2.
For some context here - I am a trans woman. As a direct result of this fact I have a rather . complex relation to masculinity, particularly in the context of this: a roleplaying game where I am expected, to some degree, be able to immerse myself in the narrative.
Now, this ES is very much a horror ES. It is built as such, and it is dealing quite explicitly with themes of identity, from the way that the main threatening figure in the ES is a puppet and a devil at the same time (relating as well to how devils take on a humanoid form to maneuver through the Fallen Cities), to the fact that the main characters are prince Leopold and Mr Mirrors, two characters who are largely absent in broader FL on account of having been taken out of commission sometime before the events of the game proper (while Mr Mirrors does appear in Nemesis, it is a husk of its former self) (both characters still function in the narrative by being absent and putting pressure on the characters affected by this absence).
Even so, I feel that the amount of discomfort I was experiencing was perhaps unduly enhanced by the gender dysphoria that came from the way the story was written. The main bulk of the ES was a distractingly unpleasant experience, and in particular the multiple references to confusion about reflections worsened that feeling for me.
I don't want to blame anyone for this. I don't think there is anyone to blame, really - this is a deeply unfortunate story where my personal experiences have prevented me from experiencing a story to its fullest. I think Harry Tuffs did quite well on the story, and I'm mostly sad that I've not been able to appreciate that to its fullest.
With Feast of the Rose once again having begun, I would like to remind everyone that I have a form you can fill in to request a Lovingly Be-Ribboned Kitten! No cost or anything I just have so many kittens to give away.

Hello hello, friends and countrymen! As the Christmas season is coming to a close, I would like to, once again, introduce the Lovingly Be-Ribboned Kitten Extravaganza! The setup is simple: you fill in this form, and I will, during the Feast of the Rose, send you a Lovingly Be-Ribboned Kitten, free of charge! This is open to all players, though I will prioritize sending Kittens to players who do not yet have one.
If you do not have a Lovingly Be-Ribboned Kitten, you may be wondering what makes these kittens special. It's quite simple: the Feast of the Rose (as you may, or may not, be aware) makes use of a seasonal currency called Masquing. This needs to be obtained through handing in various gifts, sent by other players during the Feast. One of these gifts is a Lovingly Be-Ribboned Kitten. However, unlike all the other gifts, the Lovingly Be-Ribboned Kitten lets you keep the most important part of the gift: the Kitten, which is actually a Parabolan Kitten. So you get 2 Masquing for the Feast, and you get a Companion! The stats of this Companion are: +1 Bizarre, +3 Persuasive, +1 Glasswork.
i mean. it's not technically transparently master fanfiction because most londoners don't know what the masters really are. if you just go by names + personalities the analogues are pretty obvious but there's so much emphasis placed on sexing up Big Huge Alien Bat Furries™ that the scandal makes the rpf elements (comparatively) fall to the wayside. for everyone who is in the know about the masters, though? yeah it's pretty obviously curator smut
i post so much about the funny bats and their funny antics (including my made up oc who loves those funny bats a deeply abnormal amount) it's easy to forget most people in the FLverse are entirely unaware of spacebat lore. most people in the FLverse see the scoundrel and assume she's just some weirdo socialite who's been too eager to follow shapeling arts trends. they wouldn't make the connection between his batkissing books and the masters of the bazaar unless they were already knowledgeable about his nature + the masters in general
i'd imagine the scoundrel is held at gunpoint to make every piece of biological information at minimum slightly inaccurate (at maximum, 100% fake) because otherwise her coworkers would literally actually seriously kill her. she does try her best to accurately describe spacebat sex though.
I bring you a form! Or poll. or something. The goal is to collect what people chose as their Ambition Endings! It's been some time since the last of this type was widely published, so I aim to collect more up-to-date information. Please fill it in if you can!
This poll is to see what Ambition Endings are most popular. That means that this form will feature spoilers for the names of ALL AMBITION EN

I think my favourite interpretation of the Light Fingers Crew is that nobody there actually has any idea what to do with a baby.
Dr Vaughan approaches everything through pure biology, and where it ties into the research. Infant care was not her field, so while she’s probably dutifully skimmed a manual or two - to compare an infants development with research notes about a miser - she’s far more comfortable cataloguing the Hybrid’s mandible development than interpreting its screaming. Is it hungry again??
Clarabelle was well into her somewhat older years with no intent on becoming a parent, an eccentric bohemian woman with her own rhythms and quirks, suddenly forced into motherhood with a child born from trauma. She tries, genuinely, but the mix of complicated feelings and zero experience could create a lot of potential "what exactly does this thing want?!" moments.
The Fading Music Hall Singer might have more of an idea given her...previous situation. But she might also have her own endless feelings of complications, especially with my previous concept of her not liking the hybrid. She might just keep her distance before she leaves, either protective of herself or simply overwhelmed by everything that’s happened.
Honestly i feel like Hephaesta might be the best-equipped of the lot. Not because she’s got childcare experience or intent towards motherhood - she doesn’t - but I think the 'Cool Aunt' role came natural to her. She’s probably used to wrangling young circus aspirants and scrappy kids who follow her around. She doesn’t know what she’s doing, but she barrels in with kindness and stubbornness anyway, and thats gotta count for something.
My LF alt Jacquie also doesn't know how to raise a baby so I imagine that when she went out to Godfall for Pulsating Amber, she also asked the monks for advice. The monks (also inexperienced) then suggested giving the baby wine. This has worked out . surprisingly well. (At some point Dr Vaughan suggests giving the baby some fruit, which is how the Hybrid got fed a Parabolan Orange-Apple.)
