anytime this week i've been working on grace and his sad puppy eyes, i've had a live reference of the world's saddest, puppiest eyes

dredging up pointy protograce 2.5 years later to tellyou all i drew this in one of the worst dogsits of my life. it was a really spooky groundskeeper's cottage on the grounds of a manor house. the lady of the manor yelled at me for walking the dog & i went through the most mortifying social blunder of my life here. it was cold & wet & miserable & the guy was a hoarder of exclusively expensive books, nautical paintings & fancy tableware. there was a room full of dead wasps.

i absolutely can't discount that this miserable experience & the mould in the curtains probably influenced a lot of early grace development. the boat paintings helped at least

#i pulled aside one of the paintings once and it was £650 and i was too terrified to touch anything after that.#the social blunder was that the guy told me the dog pulls “a little” on walks #the dog in fact dragged me screaming off my feet down the road and i had to let go of the leash #to not obliterate my face on the pavement #funny looking bacj. i can't lie. but god it sucked #i was talking about it & it's all comin back to me.#“freddie why did you quit dogsitting it seemed so chill” This Is Why #the guy was nice enough & i appreciate hoarding is a complex issue but it really doesn't change that staying here sucked so bad #it would have been bearable with a well behaved dog & a usable kitchen. and not being yelled at by rich people #sadly i had none of those #character defining experience.
