‘What’s wrong?’ Rey finally mumbles.

‘Wrong?’

‘You’re tense. Is this not okay?’

Communicate. You have to communicate. One-night hook ups might not like it, but it’s still important. That’s why Rey is a safe option. A friend. A friend who can sense emotions.

Or perhaps Rose looks like a manic right now, still as a statue, breathing hard. ‘It’s good,’ she assures. ‘It’s nice. It’s just… I wanted a lot more.’

‘Like I wanna get off.’

Rey’s brow furrows. She processes for a moment. Then smiles again. ‘Of course.’ She pauses and sheepishly adds, ‘You can lead.’

Hux checks his jaw hasn’t opened. ‘Are you out of your mind?’

‘Don’t fret. This is not a love confession.’ Ren scoffs at the thought. ‘But you are mine. You are the only one close to my superiority. You are almost entirely void of the Force,’ he concedes, grimacing, ‘but you have great talent and intellect.’

‘You flatter me.’

‘Perhaps a little.’

Hux goes on shore leave, desperate to debase himself. Ren follows and upturns all his plans. Hux knows Ren will ruin him.

‘I cannot.’

‘You can. I’ve seen you when you relax. You’re… ordinary when you want to be.’

Ren snorts at that, gives Hux another look. How can his eyes be both bleary and smoldering? ‘We’re alike, you know. You put off your shore leave because you worry your vices will consume you.’ He pauses a moment, almost hesitates, then continues, ‘I know ordinary. I know comfort. I lived it. It’s easy to miss.’

Hux pets Ren’s hair because he doesn’t know what else to do. It’s rather miserable to see Ren so despondent. Hux prefers the fiery passion. At least it’s thrilling.

‘It has been a long time. Six standard months.’

Ren continues to look through Hux’s bag, as if this is his bag, in his quarters. As if not a single rule applies to him. And they don’t. Hux can’t report Ren—Snoke doesn’t care. Supreme Command can’t intervene. Hux is powerless against this infuriating man. He has quickly learned that the best course of action is allowing Ren to do as he pleases, and subtly course-correcting him. Shouting and ordering leads to the igniting of laser swords and up-turning of furniture.

Despite his slight outburst, Hux is the one to pull away first. He turns his head and Ren moves to his jaw. ‘I’ll make a deal with you.’ He groans at Ren’s eager mouth. ‘Mm. Are you listening? You are welcome to view these recordings of us at your pleasure if you don’t mention them to me.’
