I've seen 'Olly crafts a spell that burns the Silverwood out of Qifrey' as a possible method of curing him, and I really like it. But also. Imagine that this option has been open to him from the start.

Think about little 12 year old Olly getting into the Tower of Tomes, scouring every shelf for books that could help him save his best friend. Finding one that includes a sigil for Silverwood trees and realizing he could use it to make a spell and burn it alone. Then remembering Noz. Burning living things, beasts and likely people as well, and still not being able to save so many lives. Thinking about how easy it would be to get it wrong. How easy it would be to watch Qifrey burn up right in front of him instead.

He throws it aside. It's not an option. He can't take any chances with Qifrey's life like that. He needs to find some other spell - one that will put all the risk on him instead. When he proposes the targeted memory wipe to Qifrey instead, the guilt at seeing Qifrey's anguish is matched only by the relief that he seems to fully take Olly's word that it's the only option. And so the possibility that exists in the Silverwood sigil disappears completely along with his memories of Qifrey's secret.
