olruggio can keep on trucking for another twenty years on this moment alone. *gently pats the top of his head* you get incredible mileage out of this model he'll keep on yearning forever with the barest top-up of fuel every decade or so, if you just leave him to it

...actually frighteningly plausible situation: something like this is actually what qifrey is planning if it comes to it. would make chapter 40 EVEN MORE DEVASTATING SOMEHOW if this is a kind of idea he's been thinking about for a while as he infodumps about the way the tower functions. it's a bit genius in that it could be a schroedinger's comfort situation. if qifrey doesn't know if olly knows or not there can be no relief, and thus no bloom. with how at the end of his rope he seems to be it could be worth a shot at least -- before he can't see to write at all. or just as a precaution in case he should die without them having resolved the 'lies only a friend would tell' part of the equation, so there'll be a way for olruggio to know what the hell just happened re: the last twenty years of their lives. and that qifrey also still loved him.
