I feel like I'm kind of conflating his general vibe with Data's when I try to imagine it. With Data I would expect people being like "trust me buddy, everyone is going to love this" while talking him into serving something that's going to go down like a lead balloon with most people.

Maybe Spock's restaurant's specialty would be home cooking, from wherever home might be for you, as a setup for someone pointing out to him how human-like it is to care about others' nostalgia when creating the menu. This would likely be parried with some remark about humans (and other species) not making much sense in that we can experience that feeling of being home when we're so far away from it in space and time, or what a waste it is when the replicators can make things. ...Maybe someone would then point out there's something (homemade) from Spock's childhood there too.

Not to say Schmigadoon! is trash or something—to me the story just isn't as compelling. The costume and set? Beautiful. The music? Pretty good. But that pales in comparison to a story like Lost Boys imo.

Like, Ali Louis Bourzgui put it perfectly. It is a place for all who feel they don't fit in to relate and feel seen. For the queer, for the POC, for the victims of pain and strife. The fact a musical like that lost to what appears to just be a comedy? Eughhh.
